Am I the only one tempted to get those books just for the minifigs alone? :)

Review: 9489 Endor Rebel & Imperial Trooper BP
mortesv replied to mutley777's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I must say that I agree, I like the old Stormtrooper torso much better with shadow instead of hard lines. -
Am I the only one that can see what is going on in this picture? I like it - although I would tone down the Force lightning a bit :)
-
Yes those would work nice as well Actually, Cavegod just send me some pictures of a space shuttle MOC with some nice engines (built of plates). If I get the time, I'll try to replicate those and attach the fins
-
I'm glad you like the change - it was, after all, your comments that made me reconsider the engines housings - Although I must point out that the greebling is almost completely the same as before - it just looks more complex now with the engines boxes :) Regarding the main engines, the only real alternative I can come up with is to rebuild them from the ground up. What I would like to add to them in terms of detail are the three "fins" they each have. I have been thinking of ways to add these fins to the existing "wheel engines", but so far my attempts has been wobbly at best I'm thinking this brick could look as such a fin if applied correctly - however with the current engine that is not readily feasible :) If you have any suggestions I'm all ears :)

Did you buy them at S@H? Because they are available there, but my local LEGO store wont sell theirs before the 16th - which is a bit strange I think. They are actively driving traffic away from their retail store.

Just saw this thread had returned to the first page :) Again thanks for the great feedback guys! I will use this opportunity to show off an alternate version of the engine mod I have just created: The picture is bit dark - my lamp broke but I hope you can see what is going on. In this version I have tried to at least "insinuate" the existence of the emergency engine housings and bring the emergency engines slightly forward - more in line with the real Star Destroyer. What do you guys think? Is it an improvement/same/worse? Happy New year - keep moc'ing and modding! Morten Thanks for the pointer:) I have though about it, but I'm eager to see you solution - please post pics :) I imagine getting around the "legs" were a challenge :) Cheers Morten

Well, I just got mine for x-mas :) Have already ordered a ton of extra minifigs to fill it with. When the new TIE comes this January I am getting Death Star Troopers eith proper helmets :)
-
I got the 10188 Death Star from my girlfriend, brother and mother! :) It was brand new in shipping box from the local LEGO store :) I feel very spoiled :) It should provide a nice break from all the UCS building and modding :) Now I just have to get a lot of extra minifigs for it :)

I am sorry to bring up such an old thread, but after having read about this amazing set in this very thread I have been obsessing about it :) Luckily, my family noticed my ramblings and gave me this set for X-mas! I am one happy camper right now! May the Brick be with you! Morten

What a thoughtful gift! Vader has a heart after all :)

Hehe, this MOC really made me laugh! :) I always knew Darth Vader was a rotten apple, but this behaviour at christmas-time is inexcusable! :D

This is really great work! I like your level of documentation as well:) I suspect this model is in scale with the UCS Blockade Runner? By the way, I remember we had a little discussion regarding Legos SSD a while back (on youtube I think) and it is great to find you here :) Cheers Morten

Call me crazy, but I would gladly buy this bucket for 200USD :) Then I could fill up the 10188 DS (which I count on getting very soon :) ) completely with stormtroopers :)

[LDD MOCs] Brickdoctor's 2011 Star Wars Advent Calendar
mortesv replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very nice, and very accurate TIE model - especially considering the size limitation. I don't think the tubing is that bad and I agree it would look even better in real life. Seeing how cool your model is, It makes me want to build a TIE fighter myself - perhaps in USC scale :) -
This looks really cute! I like the way you have made the dirt/forest floor it makes the scene come really nice together. Good job

I'm in love! I know just where to put it... Just need to buy the bricks and build it :)

My name is Morten - Huge Lego Star Wars and UCS nut :)
mortesv replied to mortesv's topic in Hello! My name is...
Thanks for the welcome :) The answer to your question is absolutely yes! -
How is this a problem? I see it as a HUGE bonus! :D If you have trouble with finding space and financing, I found this little equation quite helpful: Furniture < UCS The idea is that if you sell your furniture you can afford the UCS models - and you free up space in the process! No need to call me a genius - that would be stating the obvious :P

Hi guys! Glad to be a part of this great community :) My Name is Morten, I'm 32 years old and from Denmark (LEGOLAND). I work for my own little games company as Game Designer. My office is actually right next to the Copenhagen Lego store :D My main interest is Star Wars Lego - especially UCS models and modding those. My first thread on that subject can be found here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=63735 I currently own 12 UCS models that stand built/modded in my apartment. Actually, I have no room for much else - so my old (regular) Lego Star Wars models from 1999-2000 are packed away. Since I am from Denamrk I grew up with Lego and began playing with Duplos when I was around 3. Some of my first creations were spaceships (surprise) which always had a tendency to crash into asteroids or get eaten be giant monsters - that actually happened even before I had ever seen Star Wars :) I also made some more artsy Duplo installations early on - to convince my mother that she should give me more Legos :) Later on, I began playing with System Lego - town and space themes. And later still, technic Lego. Through highscool I didnt really touch any Legos until the Star Wars models became available :) And now I'm mainly into UCS and modding - although I might take a break from it and get the 10188 Death Star. That set looks like a lot of fun and should provide a nice break from UCS modding - which I can get quite obsessive about from time to time :) Looking forward to seeing you around the forum! Cheers Morten

@Concept - Looking forward to seeing your Mod :) @Mr. Man - You should get this set ASAP - It is really beautiful and just by looking at it you can actually hear John Williams music - not kidding! :) Make sure to get it in "bley", since it is much easier to get extra bricks in that color. I also think it looks better in bley, especially next to the SSD and the DSII :) PS: Thanks for the advice :)

Oh no! Evil Jedi! Leave that sweet Rancor alone! Great job! Looks very detailed and captures the scene beautifully! Is the Rancor model poseable, or was it built for this scene specifically. In any case it is a beauty! :)

Thanks for the kind words! :) Regarding the emergency engines, I was actually in kind of a dilemma - perhaps I still am :) Even though I like the result I got, I'm still thinking if they could be more accurate. The basic problem of making them look like the film version with the trapezoidal blocks, is that the superstructure of the model is fundamentally different. The film version seem to slope inward much further, where the Lego version is "cut short" by the the plates where the engines are attached. Thus it would be hard to get the same effect of depth. But perhaps there is an elegant solution to this - I just haven't found it yet. The idea I have come up with so far is to place plates on hinges just above and below the middle gap - and then place the engines on hinges on top of the sloping plates (to make sure they have the right angle when placed on the sloping plates). I suspect this approach would sacrifice some of the detail I have already made and make the section more flimsy looking. Alternatively there might be a pure "brick solution" to this? Hmm, just got an idea... :) Anyway, I'm glad that a fellow detail freak approves of my design choice - I can get quite obsessive with my models and go back and forth with even a single brick multiple times :) Regarding Tim's work - I'm already a big fan of his. I actually copied his mini Falcon and I use it as a scale model next to my modified UCS Blockade Runner - Pictures will come when I get around to making a post about that project :) Cheers Morten PS: Completely unrelated - since I am a newbie here, could someone tell me what I must do in order to be able to view my own profile? - it gives me an error message saying I am not allowed to view user profiles

Just got the USC X-wing. Around X-mas I'll be getting/purchasing the 10188 Death Star - just to get a break from all the serious UCS modding :P
