OOC: I have 5 minutes, let's see if it's long enough to put together a strategy! OOC 2: Zeph, I hate to say it, but Chauncey should be Bleeding by 20. On the plus side, Hans deals Darkness-elemental damage since he's Chaotic, so he should have done quite a bit more to U'Vires. OOC: Arthur'll drop the Phoenix Incense in his halberd once a few more people on our side go down. I'll try to get a strategy going within 4 minutes or so. Battle Order and actions Arthur (Dauntlet Index) v. Vonnetate - Hans (Sir Roderick's Sword) v. Vonnetate - >Miirym makes Chauncey Lucky - Zelphie (Staff) v. Vonnetate - >Chauncey (Darkness) v. U'Vires - Triad retrieves shuriken

Hey guys. I just got screwed over hard elsewhere in my life, so I may have to spend the next few days doing damage control. Apologies to everyone I'm letting down my my absence.
-
Well, interestingly enough, when I was going through and cleaning the stats (by the way, JimBee, Hybros is banned from my future Quests until that damned armor of his gets formatted in a way that DOESN'T add a bazillion extra font tags ), I noticed that pretty much everything that was created after a certain point in time only had one set of unnecessary font/color tags, indicating that something at that point changed the way the site displays things, but it keeps the old formatting when copy/pasting things from an earlier time (the enemies and NPCs from Etheria are all fine, while the friends and foes from Quest 53 were thoroughly screwed up). Also: Matthias was in the Back Row, he should have survived that Special Damage.
-
OOC: Curse my wonky sleep schedule, if I'd known Chauncey would reject my gems I would have lent them to Matthias instead. Also, I lent Sir Roderick's Sword to Hans, so his WP should now be 12 instead of 10. "Ahh, U'Vires," Arthur notes diplomatically, "I remember you. I was just in Dastan mere weeks ago. Rest assured that the future of your people is secure in soon-to-be-Emperor U'Daras' hands. Your 'assistance' to your people is no longer necessary." "That sounds like a plan, Brother, but I would prefer Triad to fight by my side. Don't forget that horseshoe, either, it will be useful once you are forced to switch to Vonnetate." Arthur attacks Vonnetate with his Dauntlet Index from the Front Row. "<My partner has spoken much of you and your stalwart aid, Master Hans. Allow me to offer you mine.>" Miirym sacrifices ten health to make Hans Lucky. Battle Order (and actions): Hans Free Hit (Wild Mind) vs. U'Vires >Miirym makes Hans Lucky - >Hans (Sir Roderick's Sword) v. Vonnetate - Arthur (Dauntlet Index) v. Vonnetate - >Dyric (Crossbow of Incessant Warmongers) v. U'Vires - Zelphie (Staff) v. Vonnetate - >Chauncey (Darkness) v. U'Vires - >Triad (Acerpusculum Shuriken) v. Vonnetate -

I think that Aqua Gear was Dyric's, actually. I seem to remember assigning it to Hans amidst the massive gear switch-up towards the end of 53. Artisans are an absolute joy to minmax for, by the way, at least when it comes to NPC allies; their ability to wear whatever they want lets you throw all kinds of stuff on them and it actually be useful, without any PCs having to gimp their own builds to do so. (PC Artisans are a lot harder to minmax for, since they tend to rub up against their Artifact cap too quickly and tend to have their own incredibly intricate builds going already.)
-
Well, there's a blast from the past! I figured if you're going to go to all the effort of bringing back the old faces, I'd go to all the effort of rearranging everyone's equipment. (Well, okay, this time I mostly only lent my own stuff, but it's the principle of the thing. ) By the way, for everyone else's reference: Attack rolls/job traits for City Watch Guards.

"Hans...Triad...Bennetton, Gnash, you're all...I'm so..." Tears well up in Arthur's eyes, though he quickly wipes them away. "Right. Okay. Focus. Lord Chauncey, I think you should hold onto these." Arthur lends Chauncey all four of his gems as well as one Scroll of Elemental Aura, and also lends his other Scroll of Elemental Aura to Matthias. "Hmm...well, some of you should be used to this by now. Hopefully this will help a bit." Arthur lends his Scarf of Misfortune to Triad, Sir Roderick's Sword to Hans, his Fur Leggings and Sven's Dagger to Gnash, and his Unicorn Helmet, Comfy Pillow, Weatherfax Broom, and Tin Gloves to Zelphie. OOC: Remember, as an Artisan Zelphie is completely broken can equip anything she wants including multiple Artifacts per slot, and I'd guess that'd also apply to the Weatherfax Broom normally being only suitable to Weather Mages as well. "Gnash and Bennetton should remain together, they'll strengthen each other. We should bring Triad in Gnash's place, and you should lend her one or two of your spare ranged weapons. I'd recommend your double-barreled handcannon and maybe your Mockthril Longbow."

"Heads." Arthur drinks a Mead and a Nostrum, giving the same to Miirym. OOC: Mail of the Renegade Commander has SP:3. I also applied my Shining Polish to my Shadeaux Cape. Total Defense should be 58. And I returned Hoke's Hollow Flagpole to him ages ago, unless it somehow got cloned amongst all the teleportation and time-travel shenanigans here. Oh, and Miirym's element should be Darkness.

"Amarcolm," Arthur says simply as he arrives, "it's time." Arthur gives Amarcolm 1 gold. "Melquiades, please take me back to Dyric and the others."

He promised to help us if Arthur pays him. You'd rather we NOT have another NPC on our side, in a Zepher-level boss battle? Especially one you don't have to particularly care if they live or die?

It seems like we need a reminder of this eternally wise advice from Scuba.

"If one is alone in the forest, it is better to find two direwolves fighting each other than cooperating to hunt you. Selfish ambition may not be the most noble motivation, but it is at least predictable. And generally 'predictable' is more survivable than the alternative, for everyone involved."

"You have a very optimistic view of royalty. Kings are no more above greed and ambition than Heroes are. They're people, Matthias. No more, no less. And there is no one person in all of Olegaia trustworthy enough to take a throne. But perhaps it takes living under tyranny, firsthand, to truly understand the dangers." OOC: I'm completely fine with not getting the exp, it just means I won't be jumping into the Guts Bomb-A-Thon for free experience, since there'd be no point and it would eat away at my round counter. "I'm fine with those teams. It's been too long since we've fought side-by-side, Brother. It'll be good to finally see you in action once more." Arthur drinks a Mead in preparation.

Frail is a free action for Warlen, he can do it in addition to a normal action. In fact, while he's Hastened, he can use Frail once per action, so he could actually Hasten himself, cast Frail, Hasten Annie, and then cast Frail again. I have a lot of experience with items that give free Scroll casting.

OOC: Seconded. "Well, at least Piglina is panicked while Bombast seems greedy. If worst comes to worst, we can try to play them off each other to fracture their opposition." Arthur winks at Matthias. "Two kingdoms," is all he says.

OOC: I just want to confirm that we'll still have the chance to complete our side-missions (specifically gem-forging) even after we all convene in the Council room with Hybros and Matthias, correct? Also on the subject of gem-forging, do the battles grant experience, or is the gem the only reward? Arthur continues to speak Diplomatically, hoping to calm Piglina down even if he can't convince her to join his side. "Lady Piglina, please don't insult me. Not telling you? What do you call what Matthias and I were doing? You and I may disagree on the necessity of Passion's revival, but rest assured that we both despise recklessness. Unfortunately, patience is not most Heroes' strong suit. I'd suggest you join Heroica--just for a Quest or two--if you'd like to understand why. In the meantime, it appears that I will have to be the voice of calm and reason for my allies." Arthur looks to Miirym, who simply nods to him. "Melquiades, take me to Hybros and Matthias, please." ------------------------- As soon as he arrives, Arthur sighs. "I hope you know what you're doing, Hybros. You've panicked Piglina something fierce, and now she's gone and soured things with Bombast." Arthur looks to Matthias. "Just to check, you saw the way Bombast was looking at the Anvil, right Matthias? I didn't just imagine that?" Miirym looks to Doc Daneeka. "<Arthur was discussing safety precautions in an attempt to calm the Councilors down. Bombast left before any actual agreement could be made, but out of respect I think we should exercise caution to ensure our experiment will not harm Etheria. What precautions will we be taking?>"

While he waits for a response, Arthur looks beside him to try and gague Matthias' reaction. "What about you, Matthias, what do you--" And in an instant, Hybros appears and whisks the gnome away. Terrific. Welp, there goes the best shot I had at convincing Piglina to calm down. Here's hoping some good old-fasioned Diplomacy will actually help me out for once. Arthur carefully observes Piglina and Bombast's reactions, using his diplomatic training to try and read their emotional state.

Screw it, I'll bite the bullet and try to spell a word with weird spelling rather than using the more insulting alternative. Been having a really, really rough week, so my posting will very likely not be up to snuff. I'll do what I can, but you have been warned.

"Think of it this way. If I were a small city-state, I'd rather be bordered by two large kingdoms rather than one enormous empire. If either or both kingdoms turned against me, there would always be a chance to convince, coerce, or confuse one kingdom to turn on the other. In the case of the empire, there would be no recourse but defeat. Power is dangerous and corruptible. Absolute power is even more so. A corrupt Hero may be opposed and held in check, if only by other Heroes. A corrupt king cannot be stopped, short of perhaps death. And if a Hero becomes king...well, I don't even want to think of that. There are Heroes who are as brothers and sisters to me, and I would not trust even them to rule. An immortal god-king...I shudder at the thought." "Ah. So Lady Piglina panicked, rather than calmly thinking through the situation. Most unfortunate." "Master Bombast, it is true. But you must understand, this course of action is very much necessary. Someone--or something--has been trying to kill Gerald Guffington and the others who were investigating the Old Gods. Then, upon retrieving the artifacts we'd need to revive Hope's brother Passion, each of us who retrieved an artifact saw a vision of the killing Darkness that necessitated their dispersal to Olegaia. Moreover, my gut instincts tell me that something bad is coming, and we will have to deal with it sooner rather than later. I cannot help but feel that these events are all interlinked, and seeing as the Mother of Hope's memory has failed us, I see no way other than reviving Passion to gain the knowledge we need of this ancient threat. And in truth, I cannot find the revival of such a wise and upstanding being as Passion to be anything but good, for Etheria and for Olegaia." Arthur sighs, then tries to speak Diplomatically to Bombast and Piglina. "I understand your concern. As you say, these artifacts are untested. Perhaps, then, a test in a safe location would be in order, to demonstrate that we can accomplish what we need to do?"
