Prelim pics have a black visor on the alien helmet. Without it, it seems goofy, IMO. Guess you get an extra one in the K9 set (and most sets), so you can modify it if you wish.

Funny, I just noticed the avatar and was thinking how awesome it was, then I see there's topic for it! Figured I have to chime in and say I think that avatar is awesome.

I went to eight stores and a mall on Black Friday. Not once did I see any shoving or rudeness. It's a shame the typical person where you live is a jerk.

Congrats to those getting the Castle Siege at $50. Stopped at two Wal Marts near me and they didn't even have space for them, let alone actually have the sets. Just as well, I guess, I've been spending too much money as it is.

Thanks for the great review. The female pirate is awesome. I noticed they changed the Jolly Roger and made it more sinister looking. That'll help me establish two different pirate factions (which helps because I have way too many pirate captains. )

Thanks for the wonderful review. I definitely plan on getting several of these when they show up in the Lego store. The minifigs in the Pirates line are amazing, IMO.

The awesome figs and accessories make this set a winner in my book. And while the piece count/price ratio may be low, I think pieces are an excellent selection. I definitely see myself getting multiples of this set.

I counted 48 of the Star Destroyer sets at one of my Targets. Years ago I tried waking up early to get the Millenium Falcon for $50 on Black Friday, but I didn't wake up early enough and they were all gone. I'm just not hardcore enough for the 5 a.m. crowd.

I found some of the new pirate sets at one of the three TRUs I stopped at here in Pennsylvania. I picked up 6240 Kraken Attack ($9.99), 6241 Loot Island ($19.99) and 6253 Shipwreck Island ($39.99). They also had both the pirate impulse sets, but TRU had them at $4.99, so I passed. No Cannon Battle, but I'm feeling pretty lucky overall. Buying Lego pirate sets at retail for the first time in 10 years was groin-grabbingly trancendent. For the first time since my dark ages, I didn't analyze the price-per-piece ratio before buying. I just grabbed the new sets and floated to the checkout. Off topic: A lot of people didn't get the memo about the economy. Everywhere I went today was crowded with shoppers.

Not sure where you live, but around me, TRU is always the place that gets next year's stuff first (compared with Target, Wal Mart, etc.) Prices can be bad (I saw Star Wars battle packs for $14.99 -- a 50% markup from S@H prices), but I found the Indiana Jones and Exo Force stuff there first. Thanks for the heads up, TC, now I know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning. I'm not getting my hopes up, but an overgrown boy can dream.

This set is absolutely amazing! But the sceptic in me can't imagine the $100 US price holding up. 1,600 pieces with all those awesome minifigs? Please let it be true!

I'll go on record as saying I like it when companies try to make their customers happy. After some procrastination, I ordered mine Monday morning, so there's still some available!

I love Fabuland. I had a much larger post in my mind, but I'll just leave it at that.

I'm excited about the possibilities and applaud TLC for the effort, but for a first volume at least, the choices leave me scratching my head. Not only is there a gap of 10 years, but the last three figs are eh (for me). Where's castle, pirates, western? As long as they don't slip in a Timmy ...

Not to be a history geek (but since I am), the Marines were the first to land on Guadalcanal. The men in "The Thin Red Line" were U.S. Army soldiers sent in to relieve the Marines and finish the fight. Watch the scene with John Travolta on the troopship again. He spells it all out. I'm not trying to be a pest, just thought you'd want to know your MOC is spot on for what you intended. And yes, I know Marines are quite different. My father and brother are Marines.

The men in The Thin Red Line were Army.

My thoughts would be the issue is with your post office and not Pick-a-brick :-)

Thanks for all the pics! I like the set but it'll probably fall outside my budget. :'-( Too many great sets this year. My only nitpic is that those trolls/orcs/goblins are gonna really be stuck on those small boats with no oars.

Wow, one thing I learned in this thread is that if AFOLs don't like something, they're not going to pull any punches. :-/ After an extremely disappointing 2007, I liked where Exo-Force was headed with this year's sets. I still think there's a lot of potential and I enjoyed the freshness of the theme -- it wasn't underwater, or on Mars, and it didn't have a monocled villian, etc., like many of Lego's recycled ideas. I just hope this loss leads to a gain somewhere else. R.I.P. my rubbery, pointy-haired heroes. :'-(

But my wallet couldn't justify it. After reading your review, I'm now pretty much determined to save up for it. (Eggo waffles for breakfast, lunch and dinner X-O ).

In the US, it's $40. By comparison, I saw the Dwarves' Mine momentarily reappear on Lego S@H for $60 (which was $10 more than it had been.)

Just so you know, you can use UPCs from any Eggo product, but you will need one of the order forms. I was able to find one in a Target but most of their Lego Eggos had Bionicles on them (and no order form).
