  1. Way to misinterpret what I was saying. It all comes down to personal taste, and YES! those feathers DO make them look more intimidating than regular old lizard skin. Especially in the pictures you amply provided... And I didn't argue in favour of scientific accuracy per se, but that the MAINSTREAM perception of dinosaurs is as watered down to the point where scientific accuracy is actually ridiculed and frowned upon. With your post habemus corporem (we have the body), meaning: YOU just corroborated my point. To flesh out my argument in favour of plumed 'saurs being more intimidating: From a modern human's view who knows such animals as reptiles, amphibians, fowl of all kind and one or the other mammal, who has learned at school that dinosaurs were gigantic "terror lizards" (that is what the term "dinosaur" actually means), what do YOU think: wouldn't he be more scared to learn those very same predators that hunt him had feathers like a modern bird instead of the anticipated scaly hide? No croco-purse for you dino-hunter! And I also said TLC had made the right decision in omitting feathers at all, and if not only to cater to the picture providing, laughing at plumed dinosaurs crowd *rolls eyes* And for feathered prehistoric beasts being "not intimidating" (as if modern swans, ostriches and several VERY dangerous birds of prey, including owls, weren't), try these cutey pies for size and ask yourself whether or not you'd like to encounter those... And to Aanchirs last paragraph concerning my Jurassic Park argument: wouldn't you agree that it actually WAS that very movie that blasted dinosaurs from obscure toys and strange fields of study into the mainstream canon of semi-fictionalised beasts? At least people around me wouldn't have had contact with palaeontology and it's findings, in this case dinosaurs, prior to those movies. You give it's impact on pop culture way too less credit. Edit again: Concerning the feather points once more: If one does not begin to incorporate scientists' findings into a broader spectrum, here: toys, now WHEN should that happen? Imagine the following: Little child gets it's dino-toys and is happy to play. All good. Now comes along the great day of having an excursion to a museum where scientists made a good effort to portray their findings (look above) into models, scenes and artistic interpretations. Now the child sees all this and is terribly puzzled as to whether these be falsely represented or it's toys... another world view shattered. I know it from experience as I WAS actually one of those dino-kids that walked into such a museum, having a big book on them under my arm, believing T-Rex' arms had never been found (such claim was in that book) and learning there not only had been found arms of it, but also quite enough to make sure the animals appearance is correct. To end this: I don't actually think TLC would do itself a favour in campaigning strongly towards scientific accuracy, but it wouldn't hurt it either to strike a compromise, as was mentioned by someone above. Another edit: This time in favour of the theme (hooray)! I definitely dig the minifigures! Their vehicles may not strike a nerve with me, but both faces and body prints are very useful. I can also make out at least one that would make for a good castle peasant's clothing. Their new guns and lime green syringes are useful, too.
  2. This is the 2012 Disney-thread, isn't it? If so I'm hugely disappointed to see nothing of a potential John Carter (of Mars) line. I take it they try to avoid a second "causa PoP" and all the poor sales, but come on! It's JOHN "WARLORD OF MARS" CARTER for hell's sake! What an opportunity for awesome minifigure and vehicle design come to waste... My only hope is, as the movie is mid-2012 we'll have some surprise summer sets, but that there is no straw to grasp on right now griefs me to no end... I would have liked some green martians, especially Tars Tarkas. *sigh* Ah, well, never mind... just needed to get this off my troubled soul, please bear with me here :-) Be well all! Cutty
  3. Why would feathers make them look ridiculous? You could turn the very same argument 180° and say featherLESS dinosaurs look ridiculous... geez. Those Jurassic Park movies killed mainstream dinosaurs to the very point, they could't even be portrayed accurately in a toy without anyone throwing a tantrum... Alas, in that TLC might have made the right decision in omitting the plumage. As for the theme: Velociraptor is again WAY too big. If they called that buddy a Deinonychus I'd be okay with me, but so... I won't get into further details as below, so this is going to be short: Heroes' colour scheme is an atrocity! Strong dislike on my part, but might fly with the target audience. So be it then. Dinosaur designs are easily the strongest TLC might ever have put out. If it wasn't for the missing feathers. Might get some sets on clearance or discount for the 'saurs and parting out the rest. Nothing to invest in beyond that, though. @TLC: Next time we'd like our dinosaur main course with some feathers for side dish, okay? ;-) Be well all! Cutty edit: How could I forget to praise both Pteranodon and Triceratops for rockin' my socks tonight! Good stuff! I'd like a small contingent of both as mounts for my Castle trolls!
  4. Two things, one interesting the other concerning me: a) Red riding hood's face does indeed seem out of proportion and Brickenhead-Town-Dweller tried to explain that with contortion of perspective due to TLC increasing her in size. I beg to differ, though she is in the foreground, her torso, arms and hands do not actually appear bigger than do the hippie's. I guess TLC DID give her a slightly overproportionate face to fashion it into a scheme of childlike characteristics on purpose. So: overproportionate eyes, big mouth, aso. to inspire a sense of cuteness. This is what keeps most (sane) people off of doing harm to little children and infants: it's genetic. b) Could it be that the space marine does not have a trans-orange visor, but the orange overlay effect is just a faceprint? Even in those HD-pics I can't help but assume as much! Be well all! Cutty edit: random notice: Series 7 features two male figs with handlebar moustaches! Add me some awesomesauce please ^^
  5. Whoa dude! Readings went through the roof on my irony-meter upon that post! Go use some appropriate smilies next time! Seriously, you can't mean that as you wrote, or do you?
  6. In my crystal ball I foresee many a customiser to modify those bunny cowls into these ;-)).
  7. Well, the topic's title gives it away! Would you like to see already existing factions reappearing in different themes or sub-series of themes? There were some glimpses of that in earlier sets: I recall there being a black falcon shield as a deco on HP's Durmstrang-vessel for instance. A later and very actual example would be the updated black falcon knight in the new Kingdoms exclusive joust set. Would you like to see other factions reappear and if so how should that task be tackled by TLC? There's a poll up there for your consideration, but please be informative in your posts! Perhaps we might gather some insight into the wants and needs of Castle builders in a concise way here! Be well all! Cutty
  8. Don't think it would work out. First and foremost because it'd have to compete with TLC's very own advent calendars which are by tradition very similar to what you imagined. At least the none-themed ones. Second reason would be the short time a series like this would be running. Holiday season lasts only so long. Or would you want to introduce these in midsummer and let them run until easter? While I would agree that themed collectable series would be a welcome addition to the mixture I think especially a holiday series of your design would not work. Here's something off the top of my head to remedy the factors pointed out above a bit, though still I think these would be better of in an advent calendar: If holidays then ALL holidays! One fig for christmas, one for kwanzaa, one for channukah, aso. Those figs could then also wear corresponding attires (minifig rabbi ^^) and dance around a big pile of neatly wrapped pan-holiday presents circle of friends-style on the cover ^^ Be well all! Cutty
  9. Whoa dudes! It's a german website totally unavailable to me; way to jam that server! Seriously, is half of the internet populace looking at those figs now? :-((( Has at least ANYONE taken that picture/these pictures elsewhere? edit: never mind, found it on brickipedia... AWESOMENESS AGAIN! Are the folks at TLC trying to overload my retinae with all this awesome? First that joust set, now these... Black knight is perfect, even more perfect that perfect. I love him and want to have his dark and pointy little children *drool* Poseidon! Ever since Atlantis Treasure was released I wondered when he would show up*. Fixed now, and for the better part as well! The crown, the crown!! *I did actually often wonder, why we see such cool fig designs DRAWN on the games' packaging and never get the corresponding figures... TLC seems to fix this now! Lord of the jungle is perfect again! So is that aztec warrior! GOLD LONG SPEAR! Dream come true... *sobs in joy* Female viking... *drops dead from awesome-overdose* ;-) Rabbit suit dude. Cutesey and desirable. Space marine. Took a while for him to show up, but he made it just in time to rock my pants. Cool stuff. Interesting design for his armour, too. 80's glam rock lady. Will get that for a friend of mine who is a real music buff. I like her hair! Little red riding hood! Who would have thought? But perfect and that red hood piece is exactly what I wished for a long time. Dream come true Vol. II! Her basket is A-grade stuff, too! Stunt car driver. Well... he is not for me. But his hair and face maybe handy somewhere. So thumbs up! Swimmer... is that black headcover of hers a beanie-hat in black (same as the second skater had in grey and the second snowboarder in dark blue)? If so: Dream come true Vol. III because it will instantly be part of any sigfig I might come up with. In fact, the missing of such a piece is the only ever reason I do NOT have a sigfig yet. Her torso might be of relevance to some dungeony mistress (add a black skirt piece as desirable) or for some none-Bellatrix dominatrix figure *whip cracks* ;-) Tennis player... don't care about him. Sports figs don't usually interest me. Bride. Finally. Good call for that silver tiara. Want to see her torso and skirt better though. Oh, nice face as well! Nerd/geek. Perfect. Nothing to add here. Bagpipes dude. Haha! Good times! Not exactly an army builder, but would be nice to have some duplicates of him. Why no reddish beard for him, though? I imagine a true bagpipe-player to be a burly hairy one ^^ Last, but definitely not least: Hippie!! He competes with the black knight for being my favourite of the bunch. His face is sooo adorable! And the hair! *drool* Well played Lego, so damn well played! You know how to feed my addiction, and I love YOU all the more for it.
  10. Strangely twice while moving, though one time it wasn't actually me but my sister who found a white minifig-arm with yellow hand, a red cap-piece as well as a 8x1 tile in white and a 6x1 plate in red upon renovating the house they moved into some years ago. Still these parts linger in the same plastic bag in which she gave them to me ^^. I myself found a very uninteresting 2x4 brick in white dented, bitten-into (!) and yellowed strongly when I moved into my present apartment. Strange thing: my landlord's son was just about finished refurbishing the place yet the brick somehow survived in it's place no matter all the heavy duty work done ^^ Straaange! Be well all! Cutty
  11. John Carter (of Mars)! Come on, there's a DISNEY-movie of said material coming next year! Do that Lego, pleeaase! Edit: I wonder why I didn't think of it earlier: MINECRAFT! Creepers! Endermen! Zombie-Pigmen! Steve! (yes, Steve ^^)
  12. This is so awesome my brain literally stopped working for 0.5 seconds... awe-overflow!!! Sadly this is most likely going to replace MMV so I got to get me at least a second one of that before it's gone forever into the abyss of the secondary market and it's collector's prices... New black falcon knight! *sheds tears of joy* So awesome! Be well all! Cutty p.s. I will, as of now, believe that someone at TLC does read through all our suggestions. Why of all factions imaginable, would they reactivate and update especially the BF if not for the fact we castle-people wailed and clamoured for precisely that, for a looooong time? TLC! You made a believer out of me!
  13. Fthaghn! Yes! I don't know whether or not the effect was intentional or not yet that slight grain and blur in that pic makes it oh so more frightening. Which is good, since we're dealing with a Great Old One here ;-). It's almost of "found footage" quality where some poor soon-to-be-devoured soul managed to get one camera photo taken of it's impendig doom... All opposable tentacles point up for this fine alternative design! Fthaghn!
  14. Hmm, way to miss news, again! Those remaining figures do not add anything to the series for me. Sure, most have very useful parts, but overall my favourites still are among the initially leaked figs. Even that roman legionary... and I say that despite the fact I did study classics and archaeology for years (not anymore though...). From that point of view I do have to ask in TLC's general direction: why do a new scutum piece (curved rectangle shield) and no proper pilum (javelin)? Apart from that, he's among the more welcome figs. Who I do find very spectacular, though perhaps a different solution to represent her dress would have suited her better, is the flamenco dancer. Fabulous even in that grainy picture. Honorable mention goes out to the toddler's new hair piece. And that plushie of his is a winner, too. ;-) The surgeon, although excellently portrayed, isn't so much after my taste. He WILL be a champion to all those city builders however, which I do likewise welcome. The bandit isn't that much of a found treasure either. Red bandana will be nice though. Final verdict depends on clearer pics of his torso and face print, but he'd have to shine hard to rise in my regard... Be well all! Cutty
  15. Look at that leprechaun picture once more and give special focus to the gold 1x1 round brick under the pot. I'd assume that is actually supposed to go inside that pot ;-) But with all those new molds, why no new bigger coin piece? Or some pearl gold (ungilded/-chromed) classic coin sprue? As for the pot: That's a fantastic new element! I see so many civilian and non-civilian uses for it in every theme conceivable from antiquity to transhuman settings (slight exaggeration, yeah ^^). edit: re-read some pages back and found Aanchir had already pointed out that gold 1x1 round brick phenomenon. Credits to him ^^
  16. +1 to the first statement! Considering we saw trademark logos on some pieces those figures won't get anymore official than that. So there... As for the second statement: I think I'd have to open up an "Unwanted grey alien-shelter" then. Any early offers?
  17. As I did express my first reactions in that other Thread, I keep my fingers crossed all the remaining unrevealed figs are on par with those already shown. Special question: Could it be sweet Lady Liberty got her lower toga-part on backwards? Traditionally those slopes should be on the backside... So could that piece have some print on the other side which continues her torso print? I hope so! Also I figured the highlander will be one of the most sought-after figs this time because of his sword. At least I'd like to outfit my knights with a bunch of those. Unless that piece shows up in some future castle/historic/fantasy-line, I think there will be many collectors seeking them out. The hairpiece and shield are a bonus ^^ Be well all! Cutty
  18. Man, Lego is really getting over my head! Seriously! So many themes I like, so short on money, still trying to get some older collectable figs in all around (got me three additional S2 hoplites in a remote store just today! Who would have expected that?), and now THIS?! So many awesome new additions, especially the minotaur looks almost too good to be true. Yet they certainly feel legit to me! The statue of liberty's headpiece may yet be the very first Lego-element I actually consider to paint: give some colour to that hair and splat some gold onto those rays of light and you get an instant antique goddesses headpiece. Also I'm pissing my pants right now to get my greasy fingers onto one of those djinns! Well played Lego! (However, WHAT took you so long, anyway?) The grey alien's head should have been there in the mid-90's... but better late than never, I guess? Highlander, leprechaun, goth skateboarder (fancy hair!), grease monkey (again fancy hair!) and butcher are all good stuff in their own right. They all have something I could include into something castle-related, which is my main point of analysis considering collectable figs. Be well all! Cutty p.s.: Pink spacesuit? Well, not so much, but face and hairpiece of that space-lady are A-grade material. edit: p.p.s.: as it became clear with earlier series' figs to hail the advent of coming themes, who else could find that highlander, minotaur and djinn to be a foreboding to some minifig-style Heroica line? Just a thought ^^
  19. Awesome news! The new Batman is fantastic! Anyway, I'd rather keep my fingers crossed for some Watchmen to sneak in this theme! They're DC stuff after all! Imagine: Nite-Owl's Owlship ("Archie") as an official set! There could be some outlandishly good things ahead of us!
  20. Sirens-Of-Titan! You did it again! As I went in and out of detailed description of appraisal concerning your MOCs so far, this time it's me just saying this: You, sir, transcended MOCing and went to create art! A threedimensional painting done in LEGO! This medieval market is simply beautiful. Nothing more to add here. Yours truly, Cutty
  21. Excellent review there! Thumbs up and thanks a lot! Seems like this theme is actually living up to the overall high expectations. Figure quality is top-tier and the new accessories, especially those ADU rifle-thingies (instant love with me!), are very useful parts for once. I must say I wasn't entirely sold on that alien soldier at first yet he grew on me to the point where I'd have to say: He looks damn intimidating for a minifigure. Also I dig the magenta coloured arms. Good stuff! Conclusively this might reignite my interest in general alien themed stuff, just as I had in the mid 90's when I played UFO: Enemy Unknown for obscene amounts of time (yet never beat the game ever :-( ). Let's hope there's going to be a real base for either faction, the alien faction's preferably on a rereleased moon-crater baseplate in some crazy alien colour! That'd rock! Be well all! Cutty
  22. Good call S-o-T! Everything in your post rings true to me! As for my personal tastes: I just love the hoplite (NO! For the love of the universe, I'll never call him Spartan!) and often stated so in various topics all over EB. The elf, as S-o-T did so rightly put, is a perfect addition to the fantasy era of castle, which is still by far my favourite iteration of castle up to now. And I strongly concur, again ;-), with S-o-T that would LEGO release any of his proposed figures above demand for them would skyrocket! Especially if it'd be a re-imagined/updated black falcon knight. I could so see me hunting them down and adding them to my existing little troupe of old, which would subsequently be updated to post-2004 greys and chromed helmets. So here's me sitting with fingers crossed ^__^. Also I'd like that roman legionary. And a conquistador to remake the opening scene from on of my favourite movies: The Fountain. Be well all! Cutty
  23. Hehe, I got it even without hints! "A good day to wear brown pants", indeed! Poor little fellas. I like the scene! The viking onslaught is impressive, as is the foliage and overall detail. Thumbs up! Cutty
  24. Thanks for the thorough review! This set now made the definite "to-buy"-list, alongside the Queen Anne's Revenge. On clearance, of course ;-). (Licensed sets regularly overstress my budget, so this is my only way to get them...) As anticipated Whitecap Bay works as both castle-fit parts supply and a warehouse full of minifig-MOCing goodness. Especially that dark brown hairpiece of the mermaids is a must have, which hopefully sees some wider distribution in future (unlicensed!) sets (collectable series perhaps?). Be well all! Cutty p.s.: Am I REALLY that fond of using "()"? My, gotta change that. (In the future ;-) )
  25. That new beard was a good call and is a very desirable piece. I guess it's the way that TLC purposefully introduced it in two consecutively released sets of collectable figures. And I, although I'm mostly a castle person, just LOVE the fisherman way more than the lawn gnome (he's good and useful in his own right though!) because of the recoloured knit cap (dark blue for my crownies) and the orangey legs, which fit perfectly into my own vision of fighting monks :-). The Lawn gnome might provide parts for other factions, mostly dwarves of course, though I couldn't judge that, since I haven't got him, yet. Only today though I got my first five S4 figures, and some of my most wanted ones miraculously without even feeling that much: the punk rocker, the werewolf, the geisha, the painter and my favourite (gotta get me more ^^) the viking! Awesome swag! Be well all! Cutty
