Considering the astronomical prices that the old Batman Lego sets go for, I'm delighted that Lego are releasing some new sets although I must admit to not being blown away. Many look very similar to the previous line and in a number of cases not as good. I'll probably pick up copies of the Superman vs Power Armour Lex and the Batmobile and Two Face Chase as they look like the best sets of the wave. The Batcave is unfortunately particularly uninspiring. I'm hopeful that lego will release a Tumbler later in the year.

I'm still waiting to get this set. I can't say I'm a big fan of the alien conquest theme generally but this really stands out as an awesome set and a throwback to the very best times of classic space. I particularly like the aircraft which is very reminiscent of the Vic Viper, whilst the completed vehicle looks very impressive. My only significant complaints are the lack of a rear wall on the detachable front section of the vehicle and the lack of figures. I'm looking forward to owning this!

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Brinstar replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
Over the weekend I purchased the Black Pearl at 15% off. I'd been on the fence about getting it but I am a sucker for Lego sailing ships. I actually think the ship looks better 'in the flesh' so to speak than it does in pictures. I'm also prepared to revise my opinion that the QAR was the best POTC ship. I actually think the Black Pearl despite having considerably less pieces is better designed and feels more complete. -
Star Trek ships are unbelievably difficult to make with Lego due to their awkward shaping but I think you have done an excellent job! The model is certainly easily recognizable as the Enterprise D and I really like the mini shuttle. My only comment would be to try and make the phaser array at the top of the ship more apparent.

I just acquired the Kingdoms 7947 Prison Tower Rescue. Its nice to have an outpost for the Dragon Knights and it makes a decent counterpart to the 7946 Kings Castle.

Hi fallenangel, apologies for the late reply. Thanks for the welcome, I am indeed a fan of the Metroid games, Super Metroid on the Snes is one of my favorite games of all time.

This is just incredible! From the outside you have captured the source material almost to perfection and the attention to detail is very impressive. I really like the design of the keep and your creative solution to the curved ceiling. Your interior is no less impressive and the dining hall particularly stands out. Overall, brilliant work Fonzy.

Its a pity but the service was flawed in two key ways. The first was the limited number of brick types made it difficult to build really great models (although I was frequently astounded by what people were capable of producing). The second was the price made it very prohibitive. I made a couple of models but never bought them because they simply were not worth the cost. I totally understand that the process of selecting the bricks and making up the packaging was going to cost extra but it didn't make sense when you could make the model on LDD and buy the bricks off bricklink (with a much greater parts selection) for a lot less money.

A Guide to building a Medieval Village
Brinstar replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Reading this guide was one of the things that inspired to to join these forums. I think its wonderful that you selflessly share your techniques with the rest of the community. I really like the way you take seemingly redundant pieces like the round 1x1 and use them as the basis for your models. I've learned so many new building techniques from this guide and I hope to use some of these in my own MOC's one day. -
This is a wonderful MOC! I really like the design of the house and the way it is complete on one side and open on the other. From the outside your house is beautifully built and I really like the aesthetics on the inside, especially the cellar! The way you have displayed your mini-figs really helps tell a story and bring your scene to life.

I'm hoping it will be around for a little while longer. I prefer it to the new red red cargo train and would like to get one eventually to add to my 7938 Passenger train. For the moment the Emerald Night remains my priority.

MOC - The Queen inspects her Royal Blacksmiths
Brinstar replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Really nice MOC lightningtiger! It reminds me a little of 6918 Blacksmith Attack but on a larger scale. I particularly like the design of the chimney. I agree that an attached Blacksmith's house would make this even better. -
Kingdoms Target Stocking Stuffer 2011
Brinstar replied to Solscud007's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is a great little set, ideal for building up an army. I'm still working on building up my Kingdoms armies, buying a set like this in quantity could really help. I'm hopeful that this will be available in the UK at some point soon. -
Great work Viceroy! A very impressive map depicting the locations of the castle factions. Just one question, where are the Black Knights? Or have I managed to miss them?

I really hope this isn't true. It would be very surprising if it was since the MVR and Kingdoms carriage have only been out for six months. Furthermore with the Kingdoms Joust set coming out in January it wouldn't make much sense to retire the current line, at least not yet.
-
I really hope this isn't the end of the kingdoms series but the writing does look like its on the wall. Its a shame because I think its been the best sub-theme since the mid nineties with its mixture of semi-realistic castle structures and civilian sets. I think there was plenty of scope for more sets with maybe more siege weaponry and a full-sized fortress for the Dragon Knights. None the less, if Kingdoms is to go then at least with the Joust set its going out on a high. I've got mixed feelings about the possibility of LOTR. I'm a fan of the films and would really like to see Lego versions but it would be a shame if it was at the expense of classic castle sets. Lego seems to be doing more and more licensed sets which is great in someways as it enriches the variety of sets they can offer but is also sad for us AFOL's who grew up with the old Castle, Pirate and Space themes. I just hope these classic themes are not forgotten in the onrush of new licensed sets.

I think this one of the best of the POTC sets. Although the tavern is only a facade it still looks very nice from the outside. I wish the tavern was more fleshed out and had a proper interior but working within the confines of the price point I guess sacrifices had to be made. The carriages are also well done, whilst there is a good variety of mini-figures. What I like most about this set is just how it can be integrated with classic pirates or even castle with relative ease. My second favorite POTC set, just behind the QAR.

I'm new here so I thought i'd introduce myself. I've been a fan of Lego for many years but have only recently got into Lego trains. I was inspired to do so after having seen my friends metroliner in action. I decided to buy my own train set and with the old sets being so expensive I looked at the current line and purchased a 7938 passenger train along with some extra track and switching tracks. At the moment my layout is quite small but I do intend to expand it and hopefully acquire an Emerald Night in the not too distant future.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, i'm having fun so far.

Thats a very impressive rendition of the Flying Dutchman but i'm not sure if we will see anything like that as an official lego set, the cost would be just to prohibitive. There seems to be doubt over whether the POTC theme will continue in the short-term, I for one hope it does as I think there's more that can be taken from the films. A S@H exclusive Flying Dutchman would be the icing on the cake.

This is a throwback to the days when you could pick up a a small set with just pocket money or spare change. Outwardly it might not look that impressive but in reality this was a great little set as it provided quite a few important pirate related element which could be used with other sets including a sailor, monkey and treasure chest at a bargain price.

Outstanding MOC de Gothia! You have really captured the aftermath of a battle very convincingly and the scene is full of delicate little touches (the look of dismay on the soldiers faces and the knights head on a poll) which really add to the overall effect. Both the castle and the landscape are also beautifully designed, overall very impressive.

This was the undoubtedly the best set of this years Kingdoms line. Like many castle fans i've been wanting Lego to explore the civilian aspect of the castle theme in more detail for years. Between this and the MMV Lego has delivered! Both the barn and the mill look very authentic and the inclusion of rare/unique pieces such as the pitchfork and animals adds to the value of the set. If Kingdoms is to come to an end next January it will be remembered fondly due to sets like this!

Which is mightier - Black Seas Barracuda OR Brickbeard's Bounty?
Brinstar replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'd favor the BSB. Although for its size I think its somewhat wanting in firepower it does have cannons on both sides and a much more solid deck construction. The larger crew would also be significant in a fight. That being said I think the BB would be more maneuverable and that third cannon does give it a more powerful broadside. -
Thanks for this very informative review KielDaMan! I passed on this because I already own 4504 and I didn't think it was a significant enough improvement to justify the £130 price tag here in the UK. I do particularly like the design of the quad laser cannons and the fact that there is a ventral turret on this model is a huge bonus. I also like the giant computer console in the centre of the interior. The Millennium Falcon is the iconic ship of Star Wars and i'm glad lego rereleased a system scale version for those who didn't already own one.
