  1. I've really enjoyed reading your blog posts SirSven7, your detailed surveys of Pirates and Castle sets are a valuable resource for the lego community, keep up the good work! I think the Black Knights are my favorite theme overall. Two excellent castles, a good wall structure and the best navy. The only thing they were lacking was some decent siege weaponry. The 6086 Black Knights castle is probably my favorite castle of all time. From an architectural standpoint it is a thing of beauty. I'm not sure that I agree that the Black Knight's lack an identity, I always found them with their black castles and castle structures as quite distinctive from the rest. I think its a shame Lego reused their emblem for the Dragon Masters (albeit with a slight colour change) but I've always associated it with the Black Knights.
  2. I prefer the QAR. Whilst I accept it has its fair share of problems (open cabin, excess of annoying skull parts) I think it captures the source material better than the Black Pearl model. What I don't like about the Black Pearl is some of the blatant inaccuracies that could have been avoided, everyone knows the Black Pearl has 3 windows at the back yet the lego version only has two. Its also supposed to be a powerful pirate ship yet they gave it only two cannons. Fundamentally, I don't think it even looks like the Black Pearl.
  3. I think only the Skull's Eye Schooner and a fully armed Queen Ann's Revenge with their four cannon broadsides would possibly have a chance. The flagships superior decking however gives it a huge advantage. I can't make a realistic case for any of the others. As a child I was always dismayed by the fact that the pirates got all the big ships and the soldiers had to settle for the smaller ones when historically the reverse was true. It was to my personal delight when in 2010 the soldiers finally got the biggest, baddest ship of them all!
  4. My fleet currently consists of six ships: 2x 6274 Caribbean Clipper 6285 Black Sea's Barracuda 6280 Armada Flagship 10210 Imperial Flagship 4195 Queen Ann's Revenge As of 18/11/11 I also own: 4184 Black Pearl I'd also like to build my own frigate fairly soon but since I don't want to cannabilise any of my current ships, its going to take time (and money) to accumulate all the necessary pieces.
  5. Hi, I'm Brinstar and I've just signed up so I thought i'd introduce myself. I'm now in my mid twenties and have been a huge fan of lego since my childhood, apart from a foolhardy 'dark age' in my teen's. During this time i've managed to accumulate a fairly substantial collection of sets. For a while I was primarily interested in Star Wars but in the last year and a half i've rediscovered my love for other themes. My favorite themes are castle, pirates, Star Wars, space and recently trains. A few of my favorite sets include 6086 Black Knights castle, 6285 Black Sea's Barracuda, 6980 Galaxy Commander, 4504 Millennium Falcon and more recently 10210 Imperial Flagship, 10193 Medieval Market Village and 10198 Tantive IV. I discovered Eurobricks a while back and have admired the community from afar, particularly for the range of outstanding MOC's displayed on the site, which has inspired me to get building again. I'm very happy to now be part of this community.
