  1. as i understood the initial premise, lego would be listed among other interests, with the caveat that interests are relevant (whether or not interests are relevant in the first place is amother thread!). if interests, themselves, are somehow relevant, then why should lego be irrelevant to that list? my last word on it, 'cuz i'm flogging the topic well past dead: if you're going to share your interests, share your interests. if you're not going to share interests at all then, yes, maybe lego doesn't belong on the resume. 2. see, the impression that i'm getting from a lot of you is that your lego hobby compels you to harbor shame. KEvron
  3. you know, i debated with myself over posting that comment. myself won. culturally-instituted bias brings out the indignant hellcat in me. of course, i'm not blaming or accusing you, or even suggesting that you're a part of the problem. i'll say it again: one must also interview the employer. you have to ask yourself if you're willing enter into an arrangement with someone who bears stifling, superficial biases. if that's your kind of work environment, then go for it. don't spill a single bean ever. me? i gotta be me. or, at the least, myself. 4. as a union electrical worker, i must say i'm disappointed to see so many people willing to submit to the outdated "unidirectional flow of power" construct, rather than view employment as an equitable agreement hashed out by two parties. i'm especially disappointed to see blackbird acquiescence, given his influence on the process. i have to wonder if a perfectly viable candidate could expect his support should the matter arise in meeting, or would he allow his competitors to capitalize on a superficial bias. they came for tinker toys, but because i did not play with tinker toys, i said nothing.... too over-the-top? 5. then the issue with any mention of lego would be moot. sure, if that were all you listed, even i would find that odd, but in the context of a broad range blah blah blah. i think you're projecting. now, a legal firm or a trading firm? not on your life. i might mention the vivisection, though.... if you intend a career with the prospective employer, then yes. you should be interviewing the employer, too, if you're going to be there a while. 6. absolutely. if personal interests are relevant info, then we can assume that a broad range of interests, including play, would work in the candidate's favor. working in the telecom industry in san francisco, i can personally attest to the introduction of playspace in the workplace (i spend a lot of time in occupied workspace, and a good portion of that at and under work stations). toys are ubiquitous there now, and it's been my personal experience that the more technical the firm, the more elaborate the toys. 7. honestly, i'm not trying to be confrontational when i say this, but your confidence isn't enough to convince me. i'm open to anecdotal evidence. then should personal interests even be included on a resume? what function does providing that information serve? if it does serve a function, wouldn't a complete and candid list, demonstrating a broad range of interests, work in the candidate's favor? sure, if the candidate were to list only "vivisection and lego" as his interests.... euphemism. i mean hiring practices in the abstract. 8. i have to question the validity of your assertion. i believe hr takes a broader view when asking applicants to note their hobbies and interests. they're more interested in knowing if the appplicant has a wide range of interests, if they're active and creative. that's why they provide two seperate sections on the form; "interests" is seperate from "qualifications." any hr people wanna weigh in? 9. i would be surprised to discover that any engineer in the western world did NOT play with lego as a child. i wouldn't hesitate for a moment to list lego at the top of my "interests". KEvron
  10. outside of the internets, i don't know a single other afol. Baylug is in the area, but i've never been much of a joiner. KEvron
  11. ooof! nobody tell him about the contest. KEvron

  14. that assembly might make for a good cage gear.
  15. my first technic set was my last lego set before the dark ages set in, so i can't say i grew up with technic, although i did grow up with lego. still, had it not been for the technic theme, i would likely have never re-established my connection with lego, other than to give it as a gift. 16. lego magnets weigh 5g. food for thought. KEvron

  19. above the comment window, there are several insertion icons (emoticons, links, pictures, etc). the icon at the far right is the "media" icon; that's the one for inserting video clips. click it and a window pops up; add you video's url address in the "media url" space, then click the "insert media" button. when you preview your post, it may take a second or two for the video to appear in your previewed post. 23. not nearly as perplexing a question as the thread topic! KEvron
  24. but could you connect them without it? 32062 with 4519; 32062 with 3705; 4519 with 3705.... KEvron
  25. well, then i guess i can forego the posting of my next topic, "what chair?" btw, the "chair" dilemma is one of existence, not of its nature. absolutely. functions which could not be readily achieved with standard system elements. ah, but our ambassador, Conchas, has confided that certain moc's bearing too many standard system elements are not considered for lego building challenges. if i were to submit a moc using all of the parts, and only the parts, from set 851, i'd fail to meet their criteria. many moc's are neither models nor built to any particular scale; gbc's, clocks, assembly and sorting plants, etc, would all fail to meet your definition.
