At one time Castle was almost as dead as the Wild West theme. Now both themes, castle and pirates, have had a starring role with the lion knights castle and barracuda bay, along with a three in one each. A longstanding rumor has been Helms Deep remake is next after Barad Dur, and the Endurance may be considered pirate enough sadly. We've even had a small return of the adventure theme too. I could be wrong of course, but I have the feeling that bricklink designer is gonna be left to try to fill the void. You're way over thinking it. Skip the square bottom,2x2 round all the way up, plates if you need an exact height, and you can toss some 75937 or 98284 if you want to add some character or places to clip other bits to like lanterns, flags, monkey, etc.
