Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I just wanted to attempt a cross test to confirm that this is indeed absolutely 100% excluding LEGO from acquiring the DoD license. I've also sought consideration that LEGO may not have licensed DoD directly as a stand-alone title, but did at a meta level for the entire franchise, and wanted to check a listing somewhere, but I'm not too familiar with where I'd find such things can check. I've been googling for a while but couldn't find anything concrete. I would be most interested in an indication of whether there were any new or updated license agreements regarding the three sets that have now been released in the last 2-3 years, on the basis of which one could draw further conclusions At the end of the day, this is all a bit strange. Why did we assume from 2019 that LEGO Indiana Jones could come again: Because we were expecting another movie. I had hoped for 16 / 17 sets again, but realistically I wasn't expecting any sets for the old films at all, only for the new film, but I was pleasantly surprised that we would get something for the old films a little earlier and thought so would be great fan service and a good introduction to the topic from LEGO. So it would have been absolutely plausible for me to "warm up" the market with one set per film and then go onto the market with DoD and full power in the summer. That sounded like a reasonable strategy and made sense The way it's happening now, it just doesn't seem to make any sense to me. On the other hand, we had our doubts a week ago that Indy wasn't actually canceled entirely and we're experiencing an Osprey revival, and the sets have come out quite normally, albeit with surprisingly little enthusiasm from LEGO. Three days after the official listing, the first Instagram post came at LEGO Germany, nothing else. But of course I'm also concerned about the fact that the listing as a licensee is missing -

Has the comparison ever been initiated? Is LEGO still listed as a licensee on Raiders and Last Crusade? -

I don't like stickers in general, but I can accept them in principle in playsets, the basic idea of which is that they can also be customized, modified or changed. But not in display sets, not only because of the price, but because display sets are designed to be a display piece and therefore to be looked at. It's just supposed to look good. With display sets, I would choose the variant of printing everything and adding the printed parts again unprinted, which means that in the end everyone has the choice of how they want to use the parts, even with display sets. Especially with the prices called, that would not be asking too much from a monetary point of view. We're talking a few cents here. And even if the prices for many sets are already absurd, I would pay a few bugs more if everything is really printed. Display sets are primarily aimed at adults and AFOLs anyway -

Yes, in this context, it really doesn't seem to be more than that. Hopefully we can at least somehow get hold of the 6 minifigures they took from us with the ToD cancellation. I hope that there will be something along these lines for some anniversary, even if I very much doubt it. -

Yes, then it is obvious that the consecutive set numbers were guessed more than they were actually considered confirmed. sad affair. There is no other way to say it. ToD cancelled, Dod almost certainly not coming. LEGO can only surprise us, but apparently that is not to be expected. Really strange that they don't use the hype surrounding the new film to massively push the series into retail. Especially since there hasn't been an adventure series from LEGO for a long time and that would have been the opportunity for LEGO to resurrect an unlicensed adventure series with Larry Jones or Johnny Thunder after the licensed series ended. Just like LEGO City Jungle or LEGO City Wildlife. Maybe I'm too subjective, but I think that these topics should still be popular with children today. But their market research will probably simply have a different result. -

DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
OK. I understand now, thanks for the explanation. At first I thought the doubts were only due to the fact that the sets no longer appear in the retailers' order lists, so I must have missed or misunderstood something when following the posts. The doubts due to the licensees not listing the license are of course understandable, insofar as this is a 100% reliable source. Then, of course, the concerns are understandable. -

The statement from LEGO could also be interpreted in such a way that LucasFilm / Disney had no intention of offering the license and LEGO had to fight for the 4 / 3 sets. Possibly LEGO even wanted to release the ToD set, after all they did it in 2008 / 2009, but LucasFilm / LucasArts / Disney had concerns about the controversy that already existed in 2008 / 2009 or when the film was shot at that time. I don't want to defend LEGO, don't worry, but that's theoretically possible too. We will probably never find out what the true background is or was. With the series out now, I still have no doubts that DoD sets will be released, if the film is a commercial success and not a flop and it contains themes that can be implemented as a set without entering into religious, military or politically divisive discussions. I can't understand why there's such a discussion here as if it were almost certain that DoD isn't coming. But of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion :-) -

I'd take the bet, but like I said, I totally agree. DoD sets could come if they were ever generally planned. As long as the film is a commercial success and the content does not emphasize or refer to military or religious themes and there are scenes that would fit into a LEGO set. We don't know that yet. However, if the points are correct, I could think of no reason why nothing more should come. Maybe I'd still assume they'll be known after or just before the film's release and they'll come in a fall wave, but not that they won't come at all. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Strictly speaking, LEGO did not specifically announce the first wave. The sets were listed, there was a nondescript statement on ToD, if that can be called a statement at all. No news article, no Instagram post, no VIP pre-order, nothing. So why announce DoD sets when LEGO hasn't even properly announced or hyped the April Wave. -

Listet at SmythsToys now: Theme Search LEGO Other Play Series Direct Link 77012 Direct Link 77013 Direct Link 77015 These are the links to the German and Austrian pages, because I'm from Austria, where German is spoken, of course it's equivalent to the respective countries to call up the appropriate pages -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
After a member of LEGO LAN just posted that the statement that DoD might not come never existed, there is now no argument for doubting the apparition even if they did end up not coming after all. We'll see if DoD sets come, I just still don't know what should make us doubt it. As for the selection of the supposed "iconic" scenes, I was confused both in 2008/2009 and last summer and now. There would be so many scenes to create sets with play features from, even in ToD, consider the scene with the bugs, the mummies/skeletons in the wall, the falling ceiling with the spikes, or just the cart ride with the Pursuit and the flooded tunnel, the jump from the plane with a dinghy and much more. In all of these scenes, no reference to a cult or religion would have been included in the set. The fact that LEGO released the set in 2008/2009 shouldn't be forgotten either. Actually, the original scheme would have fit, to warm up the market as a fan service for each film, a set for each film, except for part 4, many can understand that and then to DoD with full power into the market. So each film would have had a set, the main film 4 sets. If the series and/or the film is a success, maybe a third wave in the fall or next year. I cannot understand why people are already saying that the topic is not successful, although it is only officially listed at LEGO today, and all reviews of the leaked copies are exclusively positive, with the exception of the criticism regarding the stickers. But maybe I'm just too stupid for that -

Hasbro also didn't show the DoD sets, only mentioned that they are coming, but didn't show them -

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
In my opinion, this is not an official statement, it is nothing. And bringing LucasFilm / LucasArts / Disney into the game is cowardly. Of course, it was ultimately a joint decision as to which sets would actually appear, but who ultimately made the final decision doesn't explain that, not even specifically why ToD isn't coming, but we were already prepared for that anyway. I don't know if the comment is really official. If so, it's done, if not, I still think it's possible that ToD will be revised later in a different form. With all the salvation that has come, now that Indiana Jones is launching as normal, I see no reason why DoD shouldn't come, quite the opposite in fact. Unless LEGO was forced to release the three sets because of the leaks, I don't think so. There is no evidence of a DoD cancellation other than the fact that retailers no longer have the products in their order lists, that is all. All rumors are based on this fact and even here the question is whether this is actually fact, if DoD is initially exclusive there is a chance that it will not be available to all retailers until September and their lists will therefore not be updated until summer, In addition, no one wants to spoil the content of the film at the moment. And technically nothing has really been officially announced yet, LEGO has listed the sets, that's all. OK, relaunch of the series of topics finished. Maybe there will be a statement. Maybe not. Personally, I don't see the slightest clue why I should doubt DoD, and a dealer order list won't change that for the time being. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Well, I played a lot with LEGO in my childhood, unfortunately 2008 and 2009 were in my Dark Ages, my girlfriend at the time even gave me the 7627 for Christmas because she knew that Indiana Jones was one of the most important topics of my childhood. At that point, I just wasn't particularly interested in LEGO or Indiana Jones. I came back to LEGO in spring 2020 due to the first lockdown, later through my two children too, who reached the right age for LEGO in August 2020. Then I went to SmythsToys and wanted to buy a few brick boxes, it didn't take long for me to realize that the type of LEGO products seemed to have changed. For example, I didn't even know LEGO Friends. After I had equipped my girls with LEGO, I desperately started looking for a topic for myself. I just found out, there wasn't one. No adventures, no pharaoh, no pyramids, nothing at all, even LEGO City Jungle had already expired, so I could only buy the leftovers for the LEGO City Jungle Series, in my opinion it was a fantastic series, a really successful alternative to Indiana Jones without a license, I bought 60161 several times. Then I remembered Indiana Jones again, only I had to realize that the sets were of course insanely expensive, so I had to buy them together for a lot of money, all 16 sets, and the brickmaster polybag. The outrageous amount of money for the GamesCon set was too much for me, til today. In addition, it was only the polybag again with an additional small set and very difficult or impossible to find, and if so, then not new, in original packaging and unopened. So from 2020 to 2022 I collected the whole 2008 / 2009 series, everything new in the original packaging, 11 times, always hoping to finally get something new, always keeping my eyes on Indy 5, the only hope that LEGO will bring the series back . Everyone can imagine what that cost. Now the time has finally come, so I'm already eagerly waiting for it. I don't want to make the same mistake again and equip myself properly with Indy sets. If I were to buy them just once, I'd get by with the top of a shelf too, only I'll take whatever I can get and as often as I can financially afford -

I think once the sets are released I'll need a loan, a truck and trailer, and my own place to put the Indiana Jones sets -

At least things are slowly starting to move and things seem to be progressing, which should at least rule out the worst-case scenario, a STORNO of the entire series. The hope for ToD 77014 has actually died for now. -

Seriously? Das wäre ein huge GWP :-D Lego Hungary - Facebook I totally agree with what I said, I think this set has a chance to be one of the best LEGO sets in years all over (apart from the quote stickers) It looks like I have to get out of the habit of sleeping, whenever something exciting happens, it's night here I'm no expert on this either, but usually sets always seem to be announced about a month before release, or sooner, especially if there have been teasers for new or rebooted series before that -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I basically agree. But LEGO could have just announced the series in time, like all other series. Rather than arranging shipments to retailers and risking something leaking before the official release. It should also be clear to LEGO that the series was long awaited. In addition, SmythsToys already teased in January that the sets should be available in April. At that point at the latest, LEGO could have planned the date of the official announcement accordingly, since it must be assumed that customers are expecting the sets to be on the market in April. Nobody understands why LEGO is taking so long at Indiana Jones. So it's probably not the fault of the leakers alone that everyone is very nervous now. -

I could imagine that those who comment on these posts don't even know the entire product range and, depending on what interests they have as individuals, can't relate to the content of some topics at all. It could just have been a silly or cheeky comment, or just any comment because the commenter didn't even know what they were alluding to -

It just shows their strict and consistent actions, which I have mentioned several times, which is almost arrogant. They only change their plans, if at all, if there is a corresponding media or political response to a topic that polarizes. From LEGO's point of view, the "small" number of forum members who have been desperately looking for answers for weeks will not interest LEGO, if they even notice. The media response from the fan channels to the sets is without exception positive, so why should they comment a little earlier than planned. Since LEGO announces every series in some form at some time, they certainly will at some point, just presumably when it suits their schedule. This can be March, April or May. Since an exclusive sale is planned from April, April would be obvious, but that is not 100% confirmed and may have changed. Maybe they are really planning something bigger and wanted to let Mario Day pass first, you don't know. I hope for next week. -

The LEGO instructions are actually so "simple" now, got 6 copies of the 11030 delivered yesterday, the instructions were the same here too, I think they started changing most of the instructions to this style last summer or autumn
