Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
This figure gave me hope at the time; it appeared in “LEGO City Magazine Number 34” at the end of September / beginning of October 2021. It seemed to be a sort of addition to “LEGO City Wildlife” and brought “Larry Jones” to life. Minifigure Set The magazine was full of references to Raiders, including the Boulder scene. The posters showed "Larry Jones" with a whip and on a vine. The magazine came before the film was postponed again and could have been an attempt at a warm-up for Indiana Jones or an unlicensed adventure series that could also be released. We should also not forget that one reason for the death of the "DoD" issue could be the many postponements due to the pandemic and Harrison Ford's injury -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I am also now almost completely convinced that LEGO Indiana Jones has found its end. In addition to the reasons I have already explained, there is another indication of this. The initial batches of 77015 came with a spare hat piece, since around early June the sets are being shipped without this extra hat piece. I bought the whole SET series a few times between April and today. Until the beginning of July there were still some leftovers of the first batches. Meanwhile mostly only sets, with only one hat piece. Of course, this can also be a packaging error, but it looks like an overproduction was used. Now, LEGO isn't known for gifts of all things. Whether it was from the canceled 77014 ToD set or from overproduction, if LEGO were planning to use the hat piece in another future set, they would have put it in storage rather than scattering it onto the market from initial production batches. In general, this gives the impression that the mold in this color combination would not be used any longer, at least for the time being or in the near future. Otherwise there is still not a single tangible and really relevant indication that anything is coming in the near future. As bad as the series has been treated from the start, I think it's highly likely that the sets will be withdrawn as early as late 2024, if not sooner. -

Well, from a strategic point of view, I too had probably waited with my company, even if I had been convinced of the success, in order to take the hype of the film On-TOP. But regardless of that, I now consider ToD sets to be extremely unlikely. I still have some hope, or see a chance that LEGO could celebrate 40 years of ToD next year and then 77014 will be re-released depending on what actually caused the cancellation. Or another alternative ToD set. Another diorama would also be possible, or maybe another revival for "The Last Crusade" in 2029. Always assuming that the global sales figures were really very good or sensational and LEGO wants to exploit that self-aggrandizement and/or sell it as fan service. Maybe a LEGO Ideas design will make it onto the market if LEGO no longer uses the franchise or license itself. But I'm not estimating the chances here either, but I'm not ruling it out. But I'm afraid that Indiana Jones LEGO is over as a theme. -

Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that more sets are planned. The sales figures are certainly good among the fans, I myself have bought the three sets many times. However, it is not possible to estimate the size of the sales in the overall market. Unfortunately, that will mainly play a role. Unless LEGO would do some fan service. The DoD movie flop in sales worries me. LEGO might mistakenly assume a DoD theme might flop and that the franchise might be uninteresting in general and therefore might not be interested in releasing more sets. That's my big concern. -

It doesn't necessarily have to be Indiana Jones sets, it would be great if Adventurerer sets would finally come again, or the Lego City Jungle series from 2017 and 2018, the Indiana Jones figures are great to integrate into the theme . Of course, license sets would be great and it would be great if 77014 came along to at least round off the one ailing wave, but adventure sets would also be great. It is possible that today's children may not be able to identify with a hero from the 90s, but also children of the current generation will still be up for adventure, or am I wrong. -

Of course, I can't say whether that's a lot for Amazon, but it's shown to me on Amazon Germany (I'm from Austria): 77012 Bought 1000+ times in the last month 77013 Bought 2000+ times in the last month 77015 Bought 400+ times in the last month That's why I was already assuming that sales would be pretty good and the sets at our SmythsToys in Innsbruck (Tyrol) are constantly on the move. Even the surface of the packaging box has changed now, previously the surface was slightly rough, now it is a bit smoother and shinier. What I meant by that was that the Star Wars logos for the dioramas were always printed, LEGO even explicitly promised that this should also happen in the future. If LEGO had planned to release several dioramas for Raiders as well, the Raiders plaque could have been printed. In general, the Indiana Jones topic was treated very neglected. Personally, I would have preferred the diorama to have cost 5 or 10 euros or dollars more and everything, or at least the plaque, would have been printed. Especially since it's probably the last we'll ever see from Indiana Jones, or at least for a long time. It would have been a worthy ending for me. All three sets, but especially the diorama, are really good sets, but unfortunately the stickers spoil the picture a bit. But of course I can only speak for myself, everyone has a different or their own opinion and view on it. I agree with you, the tiles have very nice prints that can be used again for other things. And yes, I would like to have more dioramas in the future, but I'm afraid that we can't expect that from the current point of view At the beginning of the year I was hoping for the complete package, including key ring, magnet figures, LEGO Indiana Jones computer and console game, maybe advent calendar and/or minifigure series,...etc.etc.etc., so everything there was in 2008/2009 and something else on top, because at first I thought that the topic would come back in full. But of course, better we have 3 sets than nothing at all. -

I gave up hope that another diorama could have been planned when I saw that the Raiders tile was not printed, but a sticker had to be attached. The LOGO was printed on the Star Wars dioramas because it can be used for other dioramas. The fact that no print was made for Raiders is an indication that no further diorama was ever planned, at least initially. Likewise, the fact that the small sets did not receive any individual prints and that the diorama is generally printed sparsely, as well as the handling of the complete life cycle of this series strongly indicates that more than initially four or finally three sets were never intended to publish. If there are more sets coming out, that might be more indicative of the success of the first three sets than the success of the film. Unfortunately, the film is criticized quite negatively in most reviews -

In general, I had no problems with the head pieces. Only the kind of hat that Belloq has on his head often tends, by itself, to slowly slide up and then fall off. But that was also the case with the Belloq and the Henry Jones Sr. figure from 2008. I now have all three sets very often and apart from that I have not had any quality problems with the hats -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

It might sound a bit strange or surprising as I've been almost fanatically behind the LEGO Indiana Jones theme for the past few months, but I've already started to say goodbye to the theme and let it rest. My sets are built, the other set copies are archived for later, my figure showcase is in place. I've been checking the status of things here for weeks, but I've come to terms with the fact that the three sets probably mark the start and end of the series at the same time and probably mark the final farewell to LEGO Indiana Jones. While I find the entire release, the set selection, the cancellation of ToD, and the absence and almost certainly non-appearance of the DoD sets to be odd and strange, I've wrapped up with it and found peace with myself for the time being. I might add something to the discussion here if I can contribute something useful, but for the time being I'll basically get back to my everyday life. Who knows what the future will bring, maybe we'll get one or the other surprise. But I'd rather let something surprise me in the future than worry all the time about why LEGO is treating the Indiana Jones theme so disrespectfully and what we could and should have gotten but didn't get. Let's see what comes :-) Unfortunately, we don't really have it in our hands anyway -

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
DrHenryJonesJr replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not until my last post, no. Since about an hour ago I unpacked all sets, except for the two that I keep for a long time, and put them in smaller bags for better storage in the apartment, I was able to check the small bags in response to this request. Unfortunately, I could not find any double hats in my variants. The whips are duplicated, but unfortunately the hats are not. Due to the inaccuracies in the automatic translation, I usually read the posts briefly before sending them off. Insofar as they are longer or I'm in a bit of a hurry, or both, I occasionally overlook such things, of course the correct word is brick. With the German word "Stein" or "Steine" (plural) we usually refer primarily to the small version of a rock, or a small part of a rock, but it is also used in connection with building bricks, which would literally translate as "building stone". Occasionally the term "Klemm-Bau-Stein" is used in a generalized way, which would probably be translated literally as a clam-(on)-building-stone. In German, however, the term "BauStein" (translated literally Building-Stone) is also used in the analogous sense of being a small part of a large whole, so the use of this word in this context comes less from the meaning of the rock but from a small part. I'm not sure how to better explain this -

One series was only for the figures, I just pulled out the figures and sorted the stones. One series is actually to be built and displayed in a display case Two series are intended to be kept in the storage cellar, of course appropriately preserved and protected from moisture in case I want to build the series again when I'm older. And one series is intended for my two daughters (9 and 7), who also love to build LEGO and have taken something away from my Indiana Jones hype. The younger daughter has already built the 77012, the older daughter the 77013. They would also like the 77015, but have some respect for the high part count and associated longer build time, as well as the engineering components for the game features Of course, related to my daughters, we are now and then at SmythsToys (unfortunately there is nothing for me at the moment apart from Indiana Jones) for LEGO Friends Sets, Classic Brick Sets, or LEGO Creator Sets. But since I like to build and play together with my daughters, I will just take one of the Indiana Jones sets with me to build something that I like to build. Of course, we also use the stones to build things ourselves, or my children use them. Thank goodness you're still one of those kids who I was able to teach that LEGO is meant to be rebuilt and not to be kept in showcases like in a museum :-) -

I had ordered all three sets on LEGO.com at 01:02am as a precaution as I wasn't sure if SmythsToys would have the sets on the shelves by 04/01 in the morning. The employees don't work 7x24 for the Indiana Jones fans either :-) Up until March 31st they were marked as sold out or not yet arrived. So rather delivered 2-3 days later by LEGO than maybe no sets at all for another few weeks. When I saw in the morning that SmythsToys had them available I ordered 3 of each set on Click&Collect as I wanted to pick them up right away and not risk not getting any. I had no way of knowing how big the hype would be. At 09:06 in the morning I picked them up at SmythsToys. As I suspected and expected, they weren't on the shelves yet, the employees fetched them directly from the warehouse. This even had the advantage that I got the 77015 in the brown outer box, just as LEGO had delivered it, scratch-free and without the usual cuts when you cut open the outer box too deeply with the carpet knife. In the afternoon on April 1st I was at Smyths again and was able to take all three sets with me again, but 77015 was the last copy. So I was able to get the sets 4x from SmythsToys via Click&Collect and once they will come via DPD from LEGO tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. So a total of 5x the entire series 77012, 77013 and 77015 (it always hurts to have to leave out the 77014 in such a list) I also got the 77012 and the 77013 twice from Smyhts today, but without Click&Collect, so I went there. So if anyone is really interested, yes, I now have 77012 7x, 77013 7x and 77015 5x And if someone now thinks I'm a rich stupid snot or a dork or something, no, neither the one nor the other is the case, from my point of view. But I've been saving for a long time, we're not going on vacation this year and I also saved quite a bit for Christmas last year. And no, I didn't buy away all sets for all others, there were still enough copies left and I also paid attention to fairness and didn't take everything with me at the start of sales in the morning, even now there are still enough copies available locally at Smyths. Unfortunately, there are no other topics at LEGO that interest me, no adventure series, no pirates, few trains. In fact, it's more like Indiana Jones that interests me most and I'm only currently able to get something about the franchise from LEGO. As soon as Hasbro has released the Indiana Jones Monopoly, I'll grab it too. Maybe I'll grab the sets again in the next few months, but that's enough for now. AND NO, I am not a scalper and I do NOT intend to sell the sets for twice the price now or for 20 times the price in 10 years. I want to keep the figures, the bricks etc. and probably open them all. -

I didn't have a duplicate hat piece in any of the sets. I've bought the whole series 6 times and never received a duplicate anywhere. But I also live in Europe Austria, i.e. DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), so we also have other boxes, without a number of parts and are probably supplied from other warehouses and therefore with other batches, so I think that’s the reason. I agree, but an Indiana Jones "LEGO Icons" set or an adult 18+ set wouldn't be impossible -

I don't think it's extremely surprising that the sets are partly sold out or that the delivery is delayed a bit. Since the sets are exclusive to LEGO and SmythsToys, or a few individual retailers, where else should buyers order? If it were D2C sets without prior exclusivity, it might look different. Then everyone could buy from their local retailer -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

In addition, it is nothing unusual and nothing that rarely happens that LEGO stocks are quickly empty after the start of sales. Either because LEGO can never correctly assess popularity, or plays it safe, or calculates a deliberate shortage to make the item look more popular than it is. The delivery dates changed several times on the same day. It is not surprising that a theme that has a certain reach among fans when it is relaunched after 15 years is initially very popular. But that alone doesn't have to be a reason to immediately call the designers to a crisis meeting to design a new wave as quickly as possible. After all, the hype could then no longer be so gigantic. LEGO could also say "thank goodness it went well" checked, done, next topic. -

Disney Lays Off Ike Perlmutter Here we have another clue as to why we might not be getting much for Indiana Jones, the possible Disney+ Indiana Jones spin off series is said to have been canceled as there were said to have been instructions to focus on Star Wars, now they want thousands Lay off employees to make the streaming service more profitable. If there is no series, sets in the future will also become even more unlikely. Too bad about Indy, he must have gone with Harrison -

Of course I know what you want to say with that and I think it's a very good idea because it describes the situation perfectly. However, we also know that Indy had almost reached and touched the grail and he could have had very good chances of taking the grail without without falling down :-) Just kidding :-) To be honest, I don't know whether the LEGO Chat history is supposed to give me new hope. In fact, while I was one of those people who didn't believe the whole time that ToD was actually canceled, the SET may actually (still) have the status "delayed" instead of "cancelled" in LEGO's ERP system, or in the part to which customer service has access, nevertheless, for me that would unfortunately not be proof that it is coming late after all. -

Yes, this is a retailer in Germany, for me in Austria that would be interesting because there would be no customs if I order in Germany, but this retailer only delivers from June, not from April like SmythsToys. At this retailer you could order the sets with a 20% discount and get an additional 6% discount ON-TOP with the PROMOBRICKS code. That would be a great price, but I can't wait to build the sets and will be buying from SmythsToys as early as April. SmythsToys usually reduces the sets two to weeks after the market launch, sometimes even right at the market launch, but that is more rare. However, since the Indiana Jones sets will be offered exclusively at LEGO and SmythsToys from April, it could take a while before the sets are also offered at a discount at SmythsToys. Except if the SmythsToys purchasing and sales team doesn't think about it cleverly. Since I would like to have the entire series several times anyway, I will buy a few at the market launch, regardless of whether they are discounted or not, and then from SmythsToys as soon as they are discounted and maybe also in this German shop in June, if this offer is available then still. However, from June it can be expected that SmythsToys will adjust the prices to the rest of the market and that there will be little or no price difference in the end, or that the sets at SmythsToys will already be at the same price level by then. -

The mere fact that the consecutive number 77014 would have been missing, even if nothing had ever been leaked, would have led to speculation. If there had only been set numbers from 77012 - 77014 right from the start and if 77014 had been the diorama, we would probably all have been disappointed as well, why nothing is coming for the second film or why only so few sets are released and what a cheek that is and why LEGO doesn't rate the topic better etc etc. but we could never have complained about ToD and would have thought of the usual vague reasons and finally ticked the topic off. Only then LEGO would never have had to explain anything. In fact, LEGO hasn't explained anything properly, and it won't do it either. ToD seems to be over, no matter how many times we pick up a glimmer of hope and start the topic over. You could have MOC'ed the temple itself, it's really a pity about the figures, I already liked the selection in the 2008 ToD and that's what I was looking forward to the most. If nothing actually comes to DoD and no more waves either, we will have to stock up on the remaining sets for better or worse and say goodbye to Indiana Jones at LEGO for a long time or forever. At this time, nothing concrete is known that the Indiana Jones franchise could have any significant extended future at Disney, in any form. And even if it does, the question is whether this would then be significant enough for a cooperation with LEGO. I think about it every day, in the evening when I'm lying in bed, that I'd love to meet the LEGO manager and kick his a**, it makes me really angry at how ignorant one can be, but in the end I realize that it is is a clear decision that will have its reasons, even if this is not usually clear to us, which is again due to LEGO that they never explain such things in a comprehensible way. At the end of the day, we can only take what has come up so far, or what may yet come. -
