  1. Thank you @Ben S and @Kai NRG! I'm happy that you like the scene and that I was able to make it feel lively!
  2. Hi @Grover thank you very much for your early, and as always great, feedback! Great point about adding detail by replacing some of the tiles with ingots or plates, I might do that before the deadline... I had to rush it a bit in the end, since I will not be having time during the upcoming weekend. Same goes for the connection of the tower to the base, I tried to mask it a bit by adding some stacked plates as earth right by the base of the tower. Happy that you like the free-hanging wooden stairs. It was my goal to not build "standard" stairs and it fits with Sam being an engineer and carpenter, there would be the ambition to build something special for him and his team. Thanks again and I am looking forward to the feedback on the entire build.
  3. Thank you @T-86(swebrickLUG) and @Grover for your feedback to my WIP!
  4. Study Sanctuary Among the Trees (finished entry) The message that a new satellite campus of the University of Petrea was to be built at Albion was received with great joy all across the people of Avalonia and was carried to Everwater by Sam Weatherstone personally. He himself is an engineering alumni of the University of Petrea. Quickly the idea came up among Sam and his friends at the court of Everwater to also contribute to this great effort to strengthen the education but also peace and exchange of ideas within the Guilds of Historica. Led by the Lord of Everwater, Alric Ellerion, ideas were plotted and money was gathered. Sam returned to Albion with soldiers as helping hands, stonemasons, carpenters and plans for a study sanctuary which were to be built with an open study hall on the same level as the crowns of the trees to allow for the study of the trees and birds, and provide a calm sanctuary for students and professors alike to study in. Construction started and the stonemasons of Everwater proudly showed their capabilites in building strong towers, that could even withstand the winter storms at the coast of Everwater. The carpenters recently started constructing the open study hall placed on top of the stone tower. Sam, originally a carpenter in his familie's business, just arrived to inspect the current progress. He and his teams are especially happy to have successfully constructed the winding wooden stairs that lead to the top level of the tower. This Challenge was great fun to build and I find the idea of learning new building techniques by having different challenges set in different Guilds and different building styles especially enganging and I am looking forward the next challenges! My main goal for this build was to properly contribute a small part of the story and apply the building technique for rounded towers/surfaces while depicting a lifely constuction site scene, I think I managed that and I am happy with the result. The winding wooden stairs was a personal challange I set myself and I am happy how it turned out and would love your feedback concerning it, among the feedback of course for the entire build :) Below you can see further images of the entire build and thank you to @Grover and the entire team for the work and organisation they put into the Guilds. Fulfillment of the WIP requirement for Category A When the theme and tasks of Challenge I Category A were published, my mind immediatly jumped to a classic round tower. The plan is to finish the small tower with a wooden structure on top, similar to an open pavilion, with winding stairs on the outside of the tower. The entire scene will be portrayed as a construction site, depicting the construction of the wooden pavilion. The tower shall be a study sanctuary for the students of the Avalonian campus.
  5. Thank you @Grover for the kind feedback and the tip about framing such a build and taking photos on minifig eye-level. I will definitly try this out for the next "story-centered" build. I am really happy that you like the window ... I hope to also incorporate it into the current Book IV challenge.
  6. Thank you @Seagull King of Vaughan for your feedback and kind words! Glad you like my little build and the story of Everwater. I added a link to the main Everwater-thread, where I collect all stories and additional things about Everwater. Thanks for the hint.

  8. The Stories of Everwater and Sam Weatherstone - Story Index 02 To see previous stories and an overview of Everwater, please see Everwater [Avalonia]. Reunion at Everwater After a long and strenuous journey back to Everwater, travelling as fast as they could, Alric Ellerion and Sam Weatherstone have finally returned to Everwater. After the arrival of Anna's letter, Alric’s sister had asked for their return after the apparent murder of their father and the thereafter ensuing skirmishes, Alric and Sam had left Petraea immediately. The travelling bards had already told of their crossing of the border of the county of Everwater and we now meet them back home, amongst their closest friends. 'To your father’ proclaimed Alera, lifting her cup towards Alric and Anna across the large table. ‘I am glad you are back’. She was no woman of many words, but that was by far enough. Everybody present was aware of what had happened. The mysterious death of Lord Ellerion and his right hand Master Grenich, the grab for power by force of his brother Ureth and the ensuing skirmishes, that had led to further deaths. Her brother Mal by her side, nodded, quiet as always, and took a sip of his cup. He had personally tended to many of the wounded and his mind was with the soldiers, who were still fighting for their lives. ‘I am…’ Eric took a large bite of the piece of meat in his hand ‘...also glad you are back’ He smiled his neverfading smile below his red-orange hair, which today was skewed a bit by a large cut on his left cheek which he got fighting against the supporters of Ureth. ‘Aleric, do you know what we are going to do now?’ Alric looked tired but determined. ‘Friends, I am really glad to be back and that all of you are well. Without you, we would have lost Everwater and the chance to bring justice to those that have done this’ His look got even sterner. ‘I do not want revenge, that is not the way our father has taught us’ he looked at Anna and she nodded, ‘but I want justice and our uncle has obviously betrayed our house, our troops and this county.’ Alric turned to Eric ‘you will for the time being continue to lead the troops of Everwater’ Eric looked confused, his gaze wandered to Sam on the other side of the table. Alric, noticing the look, grinned and added ‘Sam will have another task for now, we have heard that the Queen has summoned the Lords and Ladies, Knights and Bards to Albion. I cannot leave Everwater right now, Sam will in my place follow the Queen’s call and will afterwards return to Everwater as fast as possible and take the place as my right hand and commander of the troops.’ Sam and Alric looked at each other and with a slight nod of head agreed. Alera spoke up ‘I will take two of my best rangers and go scouting in the woods, maybe we can gather information on where Ureth has gathered his troops. I think Mel will stay with the wounded.’ Mel gave a short ‘yeah thats right’. Alric agreed with this plan and with that, they had discussed everything pressing and they finally had time to catch up as friends, tell stories and for once not think about what lies ahead of them. The night grew long and only Sam and Alric remained. When they got up, a bit wobbly from the ale and wine, Alric took Sam’s arm. ‘Sam, please return to me and Everwater as fast as you can, the troops and I need you back here. You will have to leave tomorrow already, to make it in time to Albion.’ Sam replied ‘of course Alric, I will come back as soon as possible. We will make this right.’ ‘Thank you Sam’, Alric answered and added ‘you are my representative in Albion, you will speak in my word and do the right thing for Everwater and Avalonia.’ He smiled, hugged Sam and wandered off, in a not so straight line, towards his chambers. Just as Sam was also about to also head towards his room, Anna appeared around the corner, opposite the direction Alric had just wandered off. She must have waited. ‘Sam, do you have a moment for me?’ She came closer. 'For you always Anna’ Sam replied. She made him more nervous than he liked to admit and his ears already started to feel warm. The two of them were really close and Sam was, to put it simply, in love with her and if he had read the signs right, she also felt something for him. She stopped at arms length. ‘I have missed you Sam and I am glad you are back in Everwater, together with my brother. Everwater needs you both and…’ she let the end of the sentence fade. ‘And?’ Sam asked. Anna looked him in the eyes ‘and I have missed you.’ She smiled at him ‘please be back soon from Albion.’ Sam felt as if he could fly ‘I have missed you too Anna, more than you can imagine and I am glad you are safe … although I know you could easily beat some of these guys.’ He winked at her and her smile grew even bigger. She playfully took a swing at him and took advantage of his small evasive movement and closed the gap to him. She gave Sam a small kiss on the cheek and whispered ‘something to think about on the road to Albion’, turned around and vanished back into the dark corridor, leaving a confused but happy Sam behind. The next day Sam left the castle of Everwater in the early hours of the day long before anyone else was up and after a short visit to his parents and siblings he got on his way to Albion. - - - - - Something small to tie my Everwater story into the preludes of Book IV with the call to Albion and show how Sam and Alric reunite with their friends in Everwater. The build in itself is nothing big, however I wanted to test my window-building-skilles ... they can be improved... but I am happy with the result. The story was my main goal for this entry which was really fun to write.
  9. That's a great build @T-86(swebrickLUG). I really like the color choices you made and the proportions of the building are great too. My favourite detail are the red vines on the left side.
  10. I really like this style of challenge...from my side it has been a "creative silence" plotting ideas and setting up a PB order Also I am looking forward to the other challenges of this type, getting to build in other guilds and learning something new. For my part I think the challenge is perfectly set up!
  11. Impressive look with a limited number of bricks! I really like the roof on the yellow house and and the white on the box in door on the right house.
  12. Great to see so many Avalonians coming together and the story unfolding! A huge 'thank you' to you @Grover for your work. I migth have to build something small to show how Sam Weatherstone got the call to Albion to meet the Queen ... already feeling inspired...
  13. Awesome figbarf! They all look very good... great to see fellow Avalonian troops
  14. Lovely vignette @T-86(swebrickLUG) and it perfectly capures the feel of an courtyard in an Avalonian castle/city. The walls feel imposing and imposible to scale and the details are great.
  15. Lovely build @The Stad and nice storytelling to accompany it! As already pointed out, I also like the subtle rise of the steps and the contrasting colors of the plants and flowers with the main color gray works perfectly!
  16. I appreciate the transperency created with sharing the judging rubric! Although for me personally the scoring is not the most important aspect of my builds for GoH, it gives somewhat of a direction/aspect to concentrate on when building, e.g. if I would want to refine my presentation skills I could look up if said criteria are met.
  17. I'm loving the preludes and I'm already excited about where this is heading! Really nice scene @Grover and @Kai NRG
  18. With the start of Book IV, I hereby declare once again my allegiance to the migthy guild of Avalonia! I am happy to present to you again Sam Weatherstone. He is the youngest memeber of House Weatherstone and he is the new commander of the troops of House Ellerion, the rulers of Everwater, and the right hand to his dear friend and new Lord of Everwater, Alric Ellerion. He is a carpenter, engineer and swordmaster and grew up in Everwater, a small county and city at the northern coast of Avalonia. To learn more about Sam Weatherstone, his friends and Everwater please see the following thread, where I gather all the stories. I wish everyone happy building, lots of creativity and lots of fun. For the glory of Avalonia!
  19. Great news to start the year with! I have been looking forward to this and a huge "thank you" to the guild leaders, their deputies and all the people involved for their work behind the scenes! I hereby declare allegiance to the migthy guild of Avalonia and will post a corresponding post in the Avalonia thread of my sigfig Sam Weatherstone, commander of the troops of Everwater.
  20. That's great news to start the year with!
  21. I am very much looking forward to what is to come! Great idea @Grover and really nice shot Love seeing Sam Weatherstone among his fellow Avalonians!
  22. Thank you very much @Grover for your kind and, as always, detailed feedback! I appreciate it very much. Until you wrote that the build reminds you of the 3739 Blacksmith Shop, I didn't realise the do really have some similarities...and in fact, 3739 is one of my most cherished sets I got as a kid...I must have taken inspiration from it without realising it. :-) The next challange for sure for me will be figuring out how to do a SNOT Tudor section...
  23. What a great start to kick off Book IV! I had a lot of fun building for the contest and I am looking forward to what's to come. It was awesome to see the forum alive and bustling with activity. Concrats to @T-86(swebrickLUG) and @Gideon for winning, your builds, as well as all the other entries, where fantastic!
