  1. I absolutely love the 3 layered approach. Really adds depth to the “water” and to me it’s worth the added cost of more pieces.
  2. Oooooh I actually have an original Steve from the Imperial Trading Post. I gotta start brainstorming ideas!
  3. Hello everyone, I'm active on the Pirates forum but this is my first time posting in the Town one. I've decided to tackle some modular buildings that will be compatible with my Pirate MOCs. My city of Charleston, SC USA is home to many historic buildings and I wanted to replicate some of them in Lego form, eventually creating a historical scene of some of the pirate raids of the 1700s. I also wanted to be able to display them in modern form as well. I decided to start with a colorful block of homes on East Bay Street known as Rainbow Row. It's one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. On a nice day you're likely to see plenty of people taking photos in front of these houses. I've decided to focus on these 5 depicted below. The pink one is completely finished inside and out and sits on a modular compatible 32x32 baseplate. The blue and green ones are being constructed together on 1 and a half baseplates (48x32) and I have completed the exteriors on those. The last 2 will also be 48x32. I've ordered bricks in yellow and light nougat to construct them, but they are still in the early design process. Below is what I have so far in brick form. Here are some digital renders of the completed pink one. I have instructions for sale of the pink one on Rebrickable if you are interested in adding a touch of Charleston to your Lego city. https://reb.li/m/184815 If you are interested in this project I'll be making periodic updates on my instagram. https://www.instagram.com/captaindarknstormy/?igsh=MWIzdWRkYzl0bHJrYw%3D%3D&utm_source=qr
  4. These are all some great looking rafts!
  5. Thank you!!! 🥰 Thanks! I really spent a lot of time on the rock work! I added that little sand bar just to have something besides water in that corner and it turned out nicer than I expected. Thank You! I had lots of gray slopes and wedges I wanted to put to good use 😂
  6. Update! Version 2.0 is out! I remade it more in line with my other MOCs utilizing trans blue tiles for the water. The rockwork is all SNOT built now. Other suggestions from some of yall were implemented as well. Rock Island 2.0 Rock Island 2.0 Rock Island 2.0 Rock Island 2.0
  7. Main Category: The Lizard - CaptainDarkNStormy (no I’m not being a dork and voting for myself. My son made this one) Short Pork Island - Yogginton Sin Island - Marooned Marin Sabre Island 2023 - TomSkippy Rock Island Refuge Remake - CollinsAnimationStudio Mini Category: Rum Rock - Fraunces King Kahuna’s Outrigger - Kritch Skeleton Crew Remake - Jack Sassy Cannibals - Valdeoris Treasure Island - Oky This contest was so fun and I enjoyed seeing everyone else’s entries. I hope all of y’all keep building new pirate MOCs!
  8. Thanks. I might have to scour Bricklink for a good used one now. This one I never had as a kid. If you want this one, I'll have instructions made and loaded onto Rebrickable by the time the contest is over. Yeah you're right about that DBG Slope. I'll have to swap it for an LBG one. Oh good call I didn't even think of using one of those. I'm not sure if I have one in white but they're cheap on Bricklink. Thanks! Yeah I should go ahead and do that. I'll look better and more consistent. Thanks! My son always swaps out minifig pieces so everything is mix and match now. I tried to keep them in line with the crew of the original set. Thanks, and if you really want to build it stay tuned to Rebrickable. Thank you so much!
  9. Thanks! He learns from the best Those are brilliant ideas! Thanks, and yeah I never build anything that good as a 7yo either. He definitely used some varied vegetation for realism. He LOVES those masonry bricks though. I got a few cups from a PAB wall last year.
  10. Yes I love those too. I typically use them on my MOCs despite them not actually fitting in the cannons. Thanks, and yeah it needs a fig! Those would be great additions!
  11. Love the comments ya'll!!!
  12. Yet another entry by my 7yo 'Lil Stormy. This little half abandoned fortification is called the Little Ripper.
  13. This is the second entry of my 7yo son 'Lil Stormy. He's dubbed it The Golden Ship. This is a Bluecoat vessel laden with riches found in the New World.
  14. I'm entering this build on behalf of my 7yo son. We'll dub him 'Lil Stormy. He has observed and helped with the creation of my Rock Island Refuge and wanted to join in the fun. He's titled this one "The Lizard" despite it not having an actual lizard. He's edgy like that lol. Anyways it's a detailed little cliffside scene of an intrepid individual in search of treasure on an unexplored isle. Many dangers abound both on land and in the sea.
  15. Yeah my wife suggested the crow's nest so the rope ladders and top bridge had a "destination" for the pirates to reach. I'm glad she thought of that. Now that I've had a few days to digest what I built, I kind of agree with the rest of your critique. My original thought was to leave some blank areas to have places for mini figs to be positioned or played with, as this is supposed to resemble a proper set and not a pure MOC. After looking at it though it does have an empty feel. Same thing with the greenery. I felt like it looked more lush in person than in the photos.
  16. Oh good call! My wife thought it needed a crow's nest. It was a last minute addition. I'm glad you like the beach. And don't worry, he'll be back!
  17. Thanks!!! I used the rope bridge design in my Forbidden Island MOC and it's worked quite well. Fairly sturdy but won't hold up to rigorous play. Unfortunately the staircase cannot be widened without drastic changes to the entire model. The stairs go under the rear rope ladder so space is limited. Thanks! I figure a real Lego designed set would have features like that so I tried to include them where possible. Thanks! I found that hammock on Bricklink last year and knew it would be perfect for stuff like this. I need to get more! I ended up just going with the posts as is. Thanks, I added the rudder! Yeah I really liked the window too. I might go back and add it again. I added lots of vegetation to the final product too to differentiate it from Eldorodo, plus some green studs on the ramp! Yeah I liked the window too! Challenge Accepted!
  18. Update: I tried using black and I like the look a lot better. Yall were right! Yeah I know the crane looks familiar. I wanted to make it brown but don't have some of the necessary parts to do it. I did change the crank mechanism though. I have a net I can add to it for him to catch fish with! Agreed about the tiles. I'll fix it. Thanks! Yes a paddle is needed for a rudder! Thanks! Modular will be difficult because of the rope bridges. Good suggestion!
  19. Because I don’t know what my 7yo (or his friends) did with the other 2x2 round tiles with the wood grain. 😂
