"...Fair enough. We'll sprinkle the powder on her, you'll do it as painlessly as you can, and I'll use as much ether as I can to bring her back. Sound good?" -

"That's hardly painless, Althior..." I speak in a whisper. "Snapping her neck would be best." -

"I don't suppose you have an apartment here we can do this in? It sounds like you just blew in, so I suppose not..." -
Just by roaring, too. Dragons man. They're nuts.
-
QM Note: Party leader simply has to specify what Puffy is doing (and if it is going with option 2, which 2 heroes to fully cure). If you get hit with a Tail Strike, you would have to go down to approx. six health.
-
Before you ask, no, Vorpalis cannot detonate fog that is on his own body. (Kinda want to see Karie try to bite off Vorpalis's head, though...)
-
I think Vorpalis is the only thing in the entire quest with even partial immunity to SD. God dammit... don't think I don't see what you're trying to do, Kinto!

15 is an odd way of typing 36. They have more defense than you think.

I nod. "Took some tracking down - but we got it. Are... are you ready? To become undead, I mean?" -
Lethauros was a glass cannon. Vorpalis is the heavy artillery.

Click the "prepare for battle" header to get the music for this battle, 138ers. It's time for the final battle versus Vorpalis! ...After a whole month of questing.

"A fatal mistake." "After I take care of you, I doubt the veterans will send another. Face it, Skrall. You're mercenaries. Mercenaries for the greater good, but the fact is you don't do a job if someone doesn't put the money up for it. But we've all heard enough speeches about higher causes and greater good and past sins by now. We all know what we're here for. Let us begin!" Vorpalis roars, letting out another burst of fog, and rushes into battle. The heroes draw their weapons, looking at their ancient adversary, knowing he was a force of destruction... The final battle was on! "Veni, vidi, vici." Vorpalis, Level 80 Ancient *Immune to Hexed, Doomed, and Sudden Death!* HP: 1900/2000 Specials: Death Roar: With an earth shattering roar, Vorpalis reduces two random heroes to 1 HP. Blot The Skies: Vorpalis spews fog on the entire party. All heroes receive the Fog 10 effect. The Jaws That Bite: Vorpalis lunges at the hero who rolled Special Damage and locks his jaws around their head, nearly tearing it off. That hero takes 80 damage and is made permanently Fragile for the rest of the battle. Specials decided randomly. Passive Specials: Will Of The Conqueror: Vorpalis will remain at 1 HP until the rest of his body is defeated. Drops: Wartorn Eye, Vorpal Horn Vorpalis Netherwing A, Level 55 Dark HP: 500/600 Specials: Conqueror's Clutches: Using his wingtalons, Vorpalis grabs the hero who rolled Special Damage and throws them right back at a random hero. Both take damage equal to their level, disregarding row and SP. Take To The Skies: Vorpalis launches himself into the air and lunges down at the hero who rolled Special Damage, gouging them with his wingtalons. That hero takes 55 damage and loses their positive effects. Specials decided randomly. Drops: Netherwing Webbing Vorpalis Netherwing B, Level 55 Dark HP: 500/600 Specials: Conqueror's Clutches: Using his wingtalons, Vorpalis grabs the hero who rolled Special Damage and throws them right back at a random hero. Drops: Black Scale *Immune to Sudden Death!* Vorpalis Claws, Level (20+Hero's Level) Ancient HP: 600/700 Specials: Arc Slash: With a wide slash of his claws, Vorpalis makes the hero who rolled Special Damage and all of the heroes below him in the battle order take damage equal to their level+10. The Claws That Catch: Vorpalis focuses on his foe, preparing to lunge at and catch them. If the claws aren't destroyed the next round, Vorpalis will pin down and gore the hero who rolled Special damage, knocking them out instantly. Specials alternate. Passive Specials: System Shock: Due to attacking both Claws at once, Poison is doubly effective to the Claws. Drops: Azure Ripper Vorpalis Feet, Level (20+Hero's Level) Ancient HP: 600/700 Specials: Explosive Stomp: Vorpalis crushes the hero who rolled Special damage under his foot and detonates the fog, reducing that hero to 1 HP. The force of the explosion dequips that hero's shield and artifacts. Fleet Feet: Vorpalis's feet become Hastened for 2 rounds. Specials decided randomly. Passive Specials: System Shock: Due to attacking both Feet at once, Poison is doubly effective to the Feet. Drops: Ebon Hide Vorpalis Crescent Tail, Level 65 Ancient *Immune to Sudden Death!* HP: 800/900 Specials: Crescent Moon Explosion: Vorpalis swings his tail across the arena, not aiming to hit the heroes, but to create a spark - instantly detonating all of the fog on every hero. Tail Strike: Vorpalis eviscerates the hero who rolled Special Damage with his tail, halving their max HP for the rest of the battle. Specials decided randomly. Drops: Crescent Cutter Due to damage inflicted upon Vorpalis in the Massacre of Mermont, all body parts start with 100 less health! The Fog -Fog is an effect that is exclusive to Vorpalis, and cannot be cured by a remedy! -At the end of evvery round, Vorpalis spews fog, inflicting the Fog 4 effect on all heroes. This effect stacks. -On rolls of damage, on top of normal damage calculations, Vorpalis will detonate the fog. The resulting explosion will do damage equal to the strenght of the fog, disregarding row and SP (Fog 10 deals 10 damage when detonated, for example.) Special damage does NOT detonate the fog unless otherwise specified. -The Puffy Machine has two different things it can do each round to counteract the fog (you can only choose one!): 1) It can create a protective cloud around the entire party, reducing that round's fog application from 4 to 2. 2) It can be used as a concentrated stream of mist, curing two specified heroes of the fog altogether. Wait, so Lind not only bagged an entire rug leading up to the throne, but the bag of holding dimension is run be skeletons? Don't expect to pull out the rug and use it later, because as far as I'm concerned, Lind wouldn't be able to roll it up and take it.

The party ascends the staircase, the winding stone steps leading up a silvery brick tower. As the party cramps into the stairwell, Karie, the last hero in line, slams the door shut, a triumphant little grin on her face. Black fog hung above them like a miserable veil, and followed them up like a hungry beast, the Puffy machine keeping both miasmas of fog from collapsing in on them and driving them mad. They reach the top of the stairs and step out into the night sky, the bright full moon almost blotted out by the dragon's fog. Visibility was poor... The party's eyes dart around the roof, various towers casting looming shadows over them. Finally, they spot two amber beacons amidst the shroud of darkness, and a draconian silhouette to match. Its wings unfurl, and it soars down onto the ground below - the dragon, of course, being none other than Vorpalis. The elder dragon was a sight to behold. With his wings splayed out, his dark body blotted out the horizon. His fog leaked from between his razor-like teeth, trailing behind him like a cape. It ignited into a blue corona around the dragon - with every step, the dragon makes a point of scraping his talons across the roof, the spark igniting another deafening blue explosion, sending up plumes of cinder and ash in his wake. Staring out from the aura of ebony insanity and azure doom was Vorpalis. "Now you understand why I had to hold back in Mermont, yes?" hisses the dragon

Boomingham started reaching that level with his Tome of Affluence. *grumble grumble*

The only thing in the room is the throne, the rug, and the streamers - with blood being on all three.

Heroica RPG- Quest #137: Where the Dead Go to Live
Endgame replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
I step towards Vindsval, hands raised - the universal sign of not fighting. "Listen! Vindsval is a travelling companion of ours. We were told about the sniper plaguing the streets by a guard, and he has taken them out. Look at his gear, and his weapon - all of them are things a sniper would use." -
"We can continue the theological debate later." The party continues along their path to Moone Palace, the grave still hanging heavily in their minds. The path doesn't go on for much longer, the tan cobblestone path leading to the impressive moone Palace. The party steps on the bridge above the moat... The fog here was oppressive. Lind had to keep Puffy on constantly, creating a protective bubble of steam as the black fog tried to swarm the heroes and taint their minds. They cautiously begin their walk across the bridge, stepping into the forcefully open gates and into the darkness. The halls of the palace were brimming with fresh fog, requiring Puffy's full capacity to keep the miasma at bay. Stumbling through the darkened corridors of Faust's fallen castle, the party eventually reaches the throne room. The party stares at the kingless throne, the room eerily silent. Bloodstains are scattered on the floor, a sure sign of recent life lost here. The stairs to the left of Faust's throne would lead to the roof, where their final battle with Vorpalis awaited them... Would the party make any preparations for the final battle?
-
"What twisted scholar told you that?"
-
"Not to mention dragons tend to get stronger with age. There's talk that Vorpalis is too old to be an Elder Dragon, you know. They're thinking of classifying him as an Origin Dragon. What his father would be is a mystery..."
-
It'd be a pretty bad plot twist if that was the case.
