  1. "Me? Fight you?? Come on, child. I have standards, for Helvetia's sake. You probably already guessed it, but I am The Regret: leader of the Gladius Unit. Our showdown is premature, heroes. Go ahead, attack me. I beg you, do put me to the test."
  2. "Yes, you should have known. You all should have known. You humanoids are remarkably daft."
  3. "Master usually demands about an hour alone this time of day, but... now is not the time to respect his wishes. We have to get these shenanigans straightened out now." "Please follow. We'll take you to the Elder's Den: the heart of the forest." With that, the spiders turn on their eight legs and lead a party down a twisty passage. The glowing eyes of smaller spiders dot the sides, they younglings staring intently at the foreigners. Finally, they pass through a stone archway and see quite the scene. A massive black and purple spider stands rigid in the center of the den. It's eyes are glazed over, and besides the occasional spasm, remains completely motionless. The gargantuan creature doesn't even seem to notice the heroes and his acolytes, and remains silent. ".........................................." "...Daddy...!!" The Progg on the other end of the den was seemingly conducting a ritual of sorts on the poor spider. He was a large Progg, clad in a ghostly white shell. Hearing the heroes' apporach, he lowers his glowing scepters and turns to face the intruders. The party recognizes his glowing pink eyes from the chariot wreck: they had found another member of the Gladius Unit! "Hello. Come to see the puppet show of a lifetime?"
  4. Also, is row to be taken in account? What if the shaman is Encouraged - will double the amount of health be drained?
  5. "Sounds as good of an idea as any. Hopefully, these townsfolk are not too bewithced by that darkstar. If it managed to break heroes' wills, it could certainly break an average citizen's..."
  6. Looks good to me! Purposely whittling down your party and then rolling a blood ritual could actually be a very viable strategy now. It defies SP, correct?
  7. I hope you don't mind me incorporating 44 canon into the Murkwood, Sandy. I wanted to show what effects the Dragonlord's raids had on the population of the Murkwood. I'll have the elder up ASAP, 48ers.
  8. "...The Elder's wife was taken away by one of the "Dragonlord's" raids. He hasn't seen her since." "Yes, our Elder is holding some old man hostage. Part of the deal he made with the Proggs, apparently."
  9. ...I've played Earthbound but I can't even remember who Threed is. Threed and Aybdo are just corruptions of Thread and Abdomen. Also, I've snuck in quite a few Nintendo refrences into, well, most of my Heroica stuff. Despite the fact 48 is heavily inspired by Metal Gear Solid 3.
  10. "Apparently so. Some guy clad in black-and-gold sometimes raids here, so our population dwindles from time to time. I guess after one of these raids, Aranoc was the oldest spider left."
  11. "No substances - unless you consider hunger - can make us rage as much as Aranoc has recently. And he has certainly been well-fed lately... trust me, he makes us hand-deliver all of his meals now..." "What Aranoc holds dear? Besides his children (of which I just heard of now)? The forest, probably."
  12. "...Threed, you're older then me and lived relatively close to the heart of the Murkwood. Any idea?" Threed sifts through his memory. "...Hrm. Year-and-half ago, maybe? After that I believe Aranoc took over."
  13. "We... we just thought... he was an acolyte! How'd he go from that to the Elder so quickly? It has only been a year and a half since we had to go..." "How is he the Elder?! I mean, sure, he's a fully-grown adult, but he isn't that old!" The two young spider seem legitmately surprised about their father's current position. "That may very well be, Druid! I'm just curious has to why he didn't tell us... we are his right-hand men, after all..." "This entire situation still reeks of tamperment..." murmurs Threed.
  14. The Acolytes seemingly smile at the lengthy introduction. "If we're on a first name basis, then my name is Threed." "And I am Aybdo." The smile slowly turns into a frown as they recall the person they were serving, though. "I was originally under the impression that The Elder was simply cranky over the Progg Invasion, and the leverage they had over him. However... I'm fearing something far, far more sinister is currently at play. You see, our Elder has currently been reduced to a fruious, short-tempered maniac. No amount of crankyness could turn such a usually reasonable and kind spider into such an untempered beast. I suspect the Proggs have more control over him then simple leverage." Morxes and Lyrol approach the Acolytes. "Hi mister. Have you seen our daddy? He is an acolyte like you!" "...Sorry, young one, but we're the only acolytes in the forest. Perhaps you can give us a name." "Aranoc." The Acolytes share surprised glances, clearly shocked by what the young green spiderling said. "The Elder had children?!"
  15. Me? Sleep?? Prepostrous! That is a really neat item, CallMePie. Alexandre better not get a hold of it - balancing for him is a bit of a toughie already.
  16. Johon once again uses his signature move, exposing the clear path. Triumphant, the party marches single-file down the periolous path they had created, careful to not tip and fall into the barbed pits below. The party walks through the clearing and goes through a bottleneck of withered trees. When they arrive the next clearing, they find the sources of the voices: they had seemingly small voices, but in person, they were rather big! "Greetings, heroes. Magnificent job clearing that trial." "Now, a formal introduction. We are the Murkwood Acolytes. We are the personal assistants of our master, The Murkwood Elder. Lately, though, as I'm sure you know, he's been... off, lately."
  17. Results: The end is in sight.
  18. Innovation = good, 48ers. Maybe we'll get to the trial's end tonight!
  19. Results Keeping the pace up, the trial was finally nearing it's end: and with nobody falling in any pits too, to boot!
  20. Results The party's new tactics cause the trial to speed up quite a bit, revealing a good portion of the clearing.
  21. Can I have a list of actions?
  22. Johon, what piece of ground are you standin on when doing this?
  23. Results The party is slowly but surely making their way through. "Uuuuhmmm. Maybe using a bomb isn't such a bad idea? You'll only be cursed if one of our spiders has malice towards you. And as long as we keep that little incident from Master... Please find some way to get through this faster - Master is slowly going barking mad, and we need you to reason with him..."
  24. QM Note: With turkey day festivities over, and all the food digested, we return you to your featured interspecies war presentation.
  25. "I assumed he'd atleast have a general vicinity. And he does, apparently." I gawk at the machine. "...Please make sure that doesn't go boom."
