I tend to start with beer, and then I swithch to whiskey, and then I realise that I am 29, and I just go out :-) so that is the reason I don't finish any of my Lego stuff, but I am having a blast while building it. It is the process of building and construction that interests me, not the final result, I just can't be bothered :-)

Large Wheels
aposaric replied to Burf2000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Whoa, that was just a bit of engineerign humor ;-) Nothing more... I keep forgeting that this is a Lego forum, populated with kids, so the humor is a bit different to adult world ;-) Keep on building :-) Burf, that is a big wheel. You can use it to recreate a watter mill ore something simmilar. Cheers -

Well, that is the reason why God invented plastic, so we can bend stuff ;-) -

To me it looks like the rim is connected using x2 axles, taking turns on upper and lower slots ;-) -
Cheer folks ;-) So, here is mine, still work in progress, but drivable mog. I wanted to have working front and back outrigers, operated by the central motor. I wanted to keep the original design of the outrigers, and keep their modularity, so it took me cca 2 hours of fiddling to get the mechanism all neat and tidy into the original design. I must say that I am very limited with parts, because I have only few sets available, so I can't reproduce all of my ideas, but in the near future I will have enough PF and pneumatic parts to finish all of the designs I have in my head :-) I want to put at least 4-5 more functions over the original design, so I managed to optimise the space for the motor, battery box and the original gearbox all on the right side, including the gearbox shift knobs. I have WIP version of the left center part, where I integrated the second battery box, and there is enough space for the second gearbox and one M motor ( although, I would like to keep it all powered only with one engine.) I just finished the pneumatic cabin risers, I only have to tuck the wires and the controls, so they don't stick out so much. Current atachement is a WIP version of scissor lift, powered by the linear actuator, surently operated by hand, untill I get few more knobs ;-) I also changed the panrod suspension setup, because, unfortunately, it just don't work properly in this case, because it tilts the chasis, and the whole truck is asymetrical. Instead, I added, two small suspension springs on each side, to centralyse the unsprung masses, and ad stability to the truck. I know that the purists are not going to like it, but this is Technic, and I am an engineer on a brake ;-) It works suprisingly wel :-) Well Enough of my rant, here are few photos, and I presume that I wil have this baby finished in a couple of weeks, when all of my parts arive. P.S. I really like some of your attachements and plugins, and black wheels look really cool. I am waiting for the yellow wheels, it is going to ba a working mans truck :-) Cheers, Andrija Posarić

Thank you for replies, I am trying to find something Legal, and for non commercial purposes only :-) Only to have fun in my spare time :-) I managed to export a file from MLCad to *.ldr format, and from ldr via LdrDat2Obj to *.obj file, which was populated by geometry, but only thing that I managed to see in Max was a single triangle :-) So there seems to be some kind of translation issues, but that is the start. I will keep you posted as I progress, there has to be a working solution :-) Cheers, andrija

Ok, so, is the plugin for Maya available? I used Maya for quite some years, but it got outdated few years back, at least for me, at least for architectural visualisation, which is my field of expertise. There is no problem with getting correct geometry from maya to max :-) I will look into that a little bit more. Thank you for the tip :-)

Hy mali, greetings from Zagreb :-) Did you model all of your pirate stuff from scratch in max, or did you export them from some Lego program? I am looking into doing some animations myself, so I would appreciate your feedback :-) Cheers, Andrija

Bok mali, pozdrav :-) Yes, I believe that LEGO was a trigger that inspired me in finishing a school of moderated arts and design, and later going to architectural university. Since I was a 3 years old, Lego was the only "toy" that I was really interested in, it really emphasised the ingeneering part of my soul :-) Cheers folks, keep on building

Thank you for the swift replies folks I was googling for the last couple of hours, and only thing that I found remotely simmilar to what I was referring to is LdrDat2Obj converter http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-req-viewdownload-cid-6.html, but it does nothing, there seems to be a problem regarding a LDD library, which LdrDat2Obj doesn't reccognise at all, so I only get a descriptive *.obj format file, which is empty. I tried to import it in to 3Dmax, Cinema 4D, Sketchup and AutoCAD, but no result. It seems that I will have to find another way around it. Maybe the LDD designers wanted their format to stay native, so probably it is going to be very hard to convert *.ldr format into anything usefull. Thank you again for your replies, I appreciate them very much cheers, andrija

Cheers folks :-) I am wondering, is there some way to export objects from LDD into *.3ds or *.obj or any other popular 3d format? I am wondering because I would like to render my LDD models in Vray for max, and animate them and do fun stuff with them. I browsed the forum, but I didn't find anything useful. Is there some mediating exporting application for this sort of stuff? Thank you for your replyes in advance, cheers Andrija Posarić

Hy folks :-) Great thread you have around here :-) I recently joined the forum, I had a Technic break for last couple of years, so I bough a couple new technic sets, some motors, lights, excavators, trucks, and finally yesterday the MOG :-) This sucker is huuuge. It took me 7-8 hours of pure work to build this monster, I saw it on pictures, but in real life it is giant. I browsed all 21 pages of this thread, and I saw there is no working mower, so I constructed working a grass cutter, powered by the front power output. I bought a lot of used bionicle sets ( dirt cheap :-) ), because I liked the special parts compatible with technic, so I used the blades from the bionicle, and fixed them to the contraption that goes left and right ( I don't know the word in english :-) ) I created from my head. Here are couple of pictures, I don't have the video yet, but my girlfriend is scared, and that is a good sign :-) ( I don't really want to tell her how much money I am spending on this sets, she would think that I am not normal, so I just tell her that it is in scientific purposes Cheers, andrija

Hy everybody, just poping here to say hy :-) My name is Andrija, I am 29. My occuaption is architecture and design, an my specialtiy is 3d visualisations and animations, I own my little business. My main hoby are motorcycles, but am also a passionate cyclist. I also ski and sail a lot, deppending of the season :-) Well, recently, I got so fed up with work, I went to the attic an dug out all of my legos, and started to build stuff with my technic parts. I started tu buy some new models and PF parts, so I am planning to build a huge RC truck, so I can play with it in the garden in my spare time :-) So, I am looking forward speaking to you, fellows Lego addicts. Cheers, Andrija
