  1. Great review Rufus, once again. I bought this one overpriced at WHSmith, but I still love it. I didn't know the face and torso where rare, and was bored by them. I instantly Brasso'd the torso and scratched off half the face, and now I wish I hadn't have done that. Right now I'm working on mod'ing this set into a super high-tech flying Smart car of the future...
  2. These are very well done. One thing I would request would be if you could perhaps make some flesh-coloured versions of these? Then I'd definately use them!
  3. Hi there! This would be my first topic, so I wanted to start well. Since the Series 6 Minotaur pics were leaked, I wished I could get a time machine and steal them all, but I don't have enough 'Power Functions Warp Vortex' parts and they don't come cheap, so I had to wait. Being a Prince of Persia (and Clash of the Titans) fan, I would have loved to combine my minotaurs with the rest of my 'figs, but I thought 7 fully armed minotaurs versus 2 Persian Soldiers would be a bit unfair. Now to stop gabbling and introduce the army (Freshly Photoshopped)! [All pictures link to my photostream on Flickr] Firstly, the leader of my army, a mutated human called Daedalus (If you know anything about Greek mythology you should know who he was). My bio- Daedalus, a craftsman who was kidnapped and imprisoned in Crete to build King Minos's infamously inescapable Labyrinth beneath his palace. Unknown to the king, Daedalus hid his druidical powers from him, and that he in fact had hypnotic control over both the minotaurs in the maze, and was secretly breeding him on different islands around Greece and the rest of the world, to build a powerful minotaur army in order to gain control over the world's empires. He uses a flame-tipped staff to burn enemies to deathand did not really rely on 'wax wings' to escape Crete. Secondly, his second-in-command; Slitzor was Daedalus's second trained minotaur, and travelled with him during his journey around the world seeking out other minotaurs for his mission. This sword-weilding beast is the mage's most loyal of bodyguards and will carry out a task given him single-mindedly until the job is done- perhaps a little too late. Once Daedalus sent him to fetch some eggs and Slitzor ran to a far-away dragon's cave, slayed it, stole one egg and slaughtered every living creature on the way and back... Thirdly; Actually my second go at painting any Lego parts, the first being the White Boba Fett, which didn't come out too well I delibarately gave him yellow warpaint so his Barbarian legs yellow printing wouldn't look too weird. He looks better in real life and has back printing (Well, painting). Bio- A minotaur native to the deserts of inland Africa, Krashni is used to hunting and gathering under the harsh sun. He can survive days wihout water and can chase down a cheetah with his excellent running skills. This makes him an invaluble tracker for Daedalus's minotaur army, and a worthy opponent in combat. Fourthly (I'm beginning to lose count); I wanted to give Theirn (These are completely random not-at-all-Greek sounding names, like the unrememberable naming of Ninjago baddies) some complicated tattoo-like patterning, with a permanent marker. There seems to be a strange variance in how stiff a Minotaur headpeice comes straight away, I used one of the weaker ones for this guy so I can fit a cape under withhout damaging it. The 'horn printing' was an effective afterthought. Bio- Theirn is the tactical mind behind all of Daedalus's army's surprise attacks. He is certainly the mos intelligent minotaur in the army and usually works with Labbris. Daedalus may have hypnotic power to keep Theirn loyal to him but is Theirn too clever? Fifthly; This took a lot of paintwork on Photoshop, and I'm still not stisfied. Raukii looks as if he's walking on water, and Iv'e overdone the splashes so you can't see all the work I put into making his reflection. Bio- Raukii had extensive knowledge of the nature of the seven seas, and was an excellent swimmer. Sixthly (Honestly, these numbers get harder and harder to say and spell ) Droz is my favourite minotaur, but I think his painting could do with some work. Iv'e set him against a background of Llanberis Slate Quarry in Wales, which you may recognize parts of from the blind witches' lair in Clash of the Titans. I live near to here. Anyway, I think the subtle little leaves by Droz's feet make the whole image work a lot better. Bio- Droz hails from the ancient barbaric northlands of Norway and Britain, and is used to harsh cold of the mountains and on ice. He is a formidable climber and can hide out of sight in any area. He was feared by the humble shepherds because of his uncivilized manner of snacking on their sheep after weeks on the cliffs. Seventhly; In my opinion Groknor has the best edited background, with a graffiti-like style inspired (Again ) by Clash of the Titans. (On that subject, is anyone here looking forward to the sequel? I am) I may have overdone this effect a bit but I think this is effective. Biography here- Groknor is Daedalus's army's brute strength. He does not care for brians, but offers his brawn mindlessly to the mage's cause. Labbris was bought after the rest of my army, so he doesn't appear in my family photo (On my Flickr) I thought it would be funnily ironic to have a minotaur using a ball of string to escape his own labyrinth, as his bio says- Labbris is my minotaurian army's problem-solving genius, and is adept at seeing in the dark passages of Tartarus, and is in fact the original Minoan minotaur's brother, who escaped the labyrinth without helping his stupider sibling early on. (Tartarus is the God's prison for Kronos, and will appear in Wrath of the Titans) Well, that's it! I'm quite happy with my army, but I have no-one for it to fight except my 9 Royal Guards, and I don't think that'd be a fair fight. On the guards. If anyone's wondering I use Humbrol (AKA Airfix) paint for my customs. How did I go? Was I rambling too much? Pictures too large? Comments please! Bonus image-
  4. I am officially an obsessive Prince Of Persia fan.

  5. Jawesome! This would have made a must-buy official set.
  6. I think what they meant is that there is no annoying flesh-coloured neckline, like in the new Count Dooku torso, which annoys me a lot, so the torso needs only have its hands swapped to be used on a yellow-skinned minifig. I'm excited about this too!
  7. I love the use of upside-down arches in the windows! Nice design. Though i think a few less studs on top would benefit it.
  8. ...Take down bigger predators than itself?... I'd be interested to see some of those!
  9. Well, I was sure there are more shades of blue than any other colour...
  10. I totally loved this set and the clone version (I bought three) and personally I see no flaws in this design. It has just SO MANY minifigures! There is plenty here for half a small battle, and this is more lacking in the new Clone Wars battle pack, with only two droids vs. two clones, neither of which are normal, army building ones. Now having to pay £11 for only four minifigs and, perhaps, a more accurate vehicle is rubbish compared to £8 for 6 minifigs and two vehicles (Neither of which is totally accurate but I don't care, they can carry all of the minifigs, rather than only one)
  11. This review told me everything I need to know about this set- A must-buy! I haven't checked yet, but it seems those flower parts only come in red. When you say it's a very tight fit on a flower base part, is it because it's badly designed, or because they're intended for the side-of-a-clone-helmet-size headgear accessory hole (Someone needs to come up with a name for that.)? I think it should have been designed better. Also, are the Friendsfigure's arms and head pins thick enough for a minifig hand to grab them? That'd make the set even more exciting!
  12. Ooh. That Tank Droid looks sooo cute!
  13. If it's not too late, here's my entry; Ha ha ha. I'm soo funny and witty.
  14. Good review but what confuses me is how on earth would a robot/ creature FUNCTION with such a strange anatomy? I like sharks but this set is some type of insult to evolution by natural selection, I'm afraid.
  15. What's funny on those sets is that the makers have NO sense of seperating thmes. A Viking helmet, next to a top hat, Wild West hats, tricornes, everything. Also, there's a weird mix of battle-axes and machine guns in the sets. Laughable.
  16. It's funny that I've seen n this post alone the spellings Zurg, Zorg and Zerg. May I add a Zyrg and a Zirg?
  17. I'm surprised you'd be able to build something so... complete looking from the aprts of any one set.
  18. Wish I had all those sets! Thoe pictures are a bit low quality, but I'd love some close-ups!
  19. I wish I'd got this set now. I'm, seeing this, actually surprised that TLG would possibly consider giving so many useful parts in one set! The lawering at the bak there of slopes looks more like something a real moc'er would build, not the usual simplified BURP used in most non-exclusive sets. I understand that (As a Pirates moc'er) these parts would be perfect. Also, this is not just a parts pack- it looks amazing itself!
  20. I can definately see the imperfections in that Gladius Actually, even with that colour it looks like an ancient rusted blade. Perhaps it'd work for a museum moc...
  21. Nice painting on that guy! I'm glad that you havn't gone overboard with the 'art', it looks decently like an official minifigure, even though arm printing is quite rare . What part/materal is the loin cloth made of?
  22. Nice review. WHY must I always read the reviews of sets and want them after they've been discontinued and cost triple quadruple on eBay? It's not fair!!
  23. I really think that the detailing is perfect (Though I'm not a fan of the printing on the Battle Pack Commander, the lines where too thin to be 'Legoy') but the awesomeness gap between he original and new figures is just growing too large, in my mind. THe new Grievous is just too much better in my opinion, and I wish these new figures came in cheaper sets. Also, when a minifig has full front and backprinting and a fleshie face specially designed for tht use and perhaps even printed hiar/headgear, plain legs can just look strange. One super-annoying thing for me is that there's an increase in flesh necklines on 'figs. Just look at the latest Dooku- now that torso cannot be used on a yellow minifig, for about 5mm worth of flesh. it's just not worth it!
  24. Must have this set. 'Nuff said. Actually, not enough said... I don't think the back room with huge windows at ground level is very well used. From prelim pictures I hoped it'd be a laborotory or something, but it seems only to be a large room paved with 2x2 tile with one stud parts. TLG really loves those. Also, about the hairpeice... It will come with the 'Geek' minifig in Series 7! Yess! I intend to build Inception.
  25. Flapping his cape delibarately while marching into the hall, Sir Norman Harold glances around him with bemused interest. He had rode dragons, unicorns, sailed the six-and-a-half seas and walked a little for months to get here. "Greetings ladies and gentlemen and other things! I am Sir Harold, hailing from the far-off realm of Meggo Bolck, ruled oppressively by masquerading frauds who are deeply corrupt. I left after hearing about the noble daring deeds done daily by the Heroica council. I wish to joi them and stop inferior plastics from ever getting mixed up in our parts collections ever again!" "Hmm... I wonder which quests I can join..."
