Apparently the front of the hairpiece looks like just2good's own hair

FBTB contacted LEGO about exclusive figures in the SDCC sets. They say that the only exclusive SDCC figures will be those that are given out individually (Captain America, Arsenal, etc); there are no unique figures included in the sets. http://www.fbtb.net/...are-not-unique/

The designer video for the Pirate Ship Ambush set said that they chose that particular scene, despite being very brief, because they thought that a pirate ship would sell well with children. I guess that they thought that the Black Gate was a pretty recognisable structure in LotR, and plus they could recommend buying two of the set to make a full-sized gate. I think that they could have quite easily included a Gondor soldier in that set though; it would make it seem like more of a 'battle' as well, rather than just five figures.

She's one of the main characters, though not a major one. In the book series she has a number of POV chapters. What's interesting is that in the series she acts like a knight (though she isn't one, being a woman), wearing armour and fighting with a sword; it's sort of similar to her role in TFA.

It's just from a page in the new July - December catalogue. There is a snap of it available on Hoth Bricks, or you can download the LEGO 3D Catalogue app and see the page for yourself in your country's catalogue.

Sounds interesting. I'd be interested in knowing some of the changes you made.

Ha, same with me. Though it wasn't so much of a dark ages as a great depression, when I was still interested in LEGO, just not having a whole lot of money for new sets. Plus at the time I sort of passed the theme over - much to my chagrin now I personally like Bag End the most out of my Hobbit sets. I unfortunately don't have the Tower of Orthanc, but I have Helm's Deep, which I really like. Attack on Weathertop, Attack of the Wargs, Shelob Attacks, and the Council of Elrond are all favourites as well.

^ Really great points. I would like to add that I think three Dol Guldur sets was far too much. At the very least, Battle and Ambush should have been a single set, or perhaps even drop Ambush altogether. Beorn should have been a promo minifigure or included in a BotFA set, and the new single Dol Guldur set should have depicted the scene from the third film, with Gandalf, Ratagast, the necromancer (firey or armoured Sauron, not the wierd ape-like figure), the witch-king along with an additional ringwraith (instead of the generic orcs), Galadrial, Elrond and perhaps even an updated Saruman with proper leg printing.

I don't think that there is much they could do to improve the current Maul minifigure, except perhaps extend his robe down onto his legs like the new Vader and Sidious minifigures. If they do end up using a moulded head like the new Tusken Raider's (as was rumoured here a while ago), I think that it would be a step down as there would be no way to use his hood. They could always give him a proper double-bladed lightsaber hilt, though.

It's interesting that the two images so far have each been posted on the official pages for their movies: Wyldstyle on The LEGO Movie Facebook page, and Gandalf on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy page. So perhaps it is some sort of tie-in between certain licensed themes?

April Fool's day jokes sort of loose their meaning when you just say "no, I'm serious" after someone calls you out on it.
-
I guess because it's simply easier to re-release an existing character multiple times than design an entirely new one which may require new moulds. Don't forget Frodos

I'm aware that most of it had been mentioned before, I just thought I would congregate it into one place. I have no idea why LEGO ever thought that Bain's hair would be orange, it seems completely ridiculous.

GoH Collectible Minifigs Series voting time!

There are so many great entries; it was extremely hard to choose! 13. 1 point 29. 1 point 31. 1 point -
Luke Skywalker's hair would be the ideal choice, but it has only been released in tan so far. It's a shame that LEGO instead decided to use an existing part what is pretty inaccurate. Unfortunately, Ron Weasley's hair in reddish brown has only ever been used on promotional minifigures, so it's not too easy to get. deskp has an album on flickr with suggestions for innacutate hair moulds used on licensed minifigures, which suggests using Pippin's hair for Bain.
-
What style of hair did you use for Bain instead? I have the Frodo's Cooking Polybag, so I switched Bain's orange hair with Frodo's dark brown hobbit hair, and it looks better, though I'm not sure how accurate it is. Perhaps the hobbit hair in regular brown, like Pippin has, would look better, but I only have five Frodo minifigures and only one Pippin.

It sucks, doesn't it? I never even saw the sets in stores; I had to order the three smaller ones off the Big W website with free store pickup. I still don't have TLM

EB Xmas Raffle 2014 - Your Ideal Christmas Gift entry thread
bungeshea replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My package was sitting in the letter box when I came home from school. Great figures; now I just need to order their accessories from Bricklink. I would be interested to know what the bonus figure was, if someone who received one would be willing to share. Thanks for running the competition and managing all of the prizes CopMike! -
Wow, that's pretty fantastic. In Australia, LEGO is never on clearance. There are a few discounts as part of 20% off sales and such, but very rarely there is a flat discount for more than that.

There's an interesting article about them here if you're wondering whereabouts they appeared in Tolkien's work.
-
So you regret buying any of the sets, then?

I don't remember seeing Alfred wearing his hat for most of BotFA, so if it is a figure based on that film they could just give him black Grima Wormtongue hair.

I checked at all my local LEGO-selling stores (Target, Big W, Toyworld, Kmart, Myer), and could find pretty much no sign of any Hobbit or LotR sets at all. Lack of LotR is to be expected, as most of these stores have a very small LEGO selection, but no BotfA sets is really surprising. Toyworld apparently had all except for The Battle of Five Armies, but only had a Lake-Town Attack at full RRP ($60). I found all four sets on David Jones website, but they sold out before I could get anything. Fortunately, the smaller three were listed on the Big W website, so I grabbed them before they disappeared too. If anyone in Australia is looking for these sets, I recommend checking the Big W website for them. It looks like they still have the two smaller ones listed, and at below RRP too. Still looking for The Lonely Mountain, though .
