  1. I quite like this small vignette and theme. Having studied Japanese Medieval History in high school years ago.. The Japanese samurai began arming themselves with arquebuses and muskets imported by the Dutch and Portuguese in the 15th century, both of whom were eager to gain favours with local daimyos, fief lords, and gain influence. Guns were used on all sides in the 100 years reunification war, where the Tokugawa Shogunate then banned the production of guns and confiscated them from the populace, closed its doors on foreigner trade(because of the gun sticks they brought).. When Oliver Perry from the US Navy and the black ships went to Tokyo in 1850s, they were showing off their western guns to the Japanese whom they thought might not have seen guns before. The shogunate and daimyos brought out their troves of ancient arquebuses and cannons in reply.. Since the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the new imperial army was modernized on Western armies, with guns being standard equipment. Pockets of resistant samurai held off in the southern islands, until they were defeated as well. Watch Tom Cruise's Last Samurai.. If the British redcoats were to have fought the samurai, it would have well been in the 1800s! With Pith helmets like those deployed to India and the tropics.. I think if you could take the pictures against a plain background it will be nice, I too have just built a Samurai ship (Atakebune) on this forum, have a similar idea to yours but pitting them against bluecoats. Keep on brickin' !
  2. Thank you Cptn Becker, I Agree with you on the Sea Dragon, I'm taking apart the stern and rebuilding it to be lower and sloped incline. She has alot of parts that are excessive and my Fort needs those parts! As for the qui-Gonn junn hairpiece(mr gibbs) and the bicorme, I sawed off the top of the hair piece, sanded it smooth contours and glued it to the bicorme. It is attached to the head via the bicorme. I leave some space allowance for the scabbard holder and the yellow epaulette. Inspired by some of the MOCs I saw on minifig customization forum.
  3. that is actually quite a nice moc for a a first try! You've got much of the facilities thought out, some good use of bricks and parts. I think with a few rounds of modifying, more bricks parts like you mentioned and adapting building techniques from the tutorials and galleries here you can have even better! Good luck and do keep us updated!
  4. A comparison with the redcoat IFS and with my older MOC the Sea Dragon, which is now relegated to a fleet flagship/ Marines landing assault ship, tasked with coastal bombardment rather than ship-ship fighting (although it probably can do it well) The rest of the fleet lined up The Redcoats be running! against such overwhelming numbers I used King George Officer as the new captain of the IFS, the original blue version has turned to the blue coat side! " We shall run now to fight another day with reinforcements!" - I am quite excited as I have 2 redcoat sloops still being built in progress. They will balance out the numbers And i realised a thing with the blue sails of the original clipper. 2 of the ships have white band as the center, my 3rd one has a blue band as the center. Anybody could explain if it is from different country packaging - eg europe and US/global export difference? the fleet sails out! Thank you all for the patience, the thread may have too many pictures for some. it's time again for me to start building the port and Fort Marlin proper. With enough docks to house this massive fleet I hope.
  5. the entire slab can be flipped close up of the hinge that attaches to the hull's side the pillar and tile rest to support the main deck the cannon and tiled gun deck, with red bricks to keep the cannon mounts in place as they slide from the recoil the main deck removed. the deck rails, modified from the QAR's many clips and bones. I think i might have seen this technique here, but too many ship pictures later I have forgotten who and what ship. If you pioneered the technique i thank you, if not feel free my fellow shipbuilders to adopt or even improve! the deck stand for the raft launch. the mast head, made from gold and yellow pieces Captain becker - thanks for the feedback and comments! I was just about getting to post the stern when you commented. Agree that the colours are too colourful to be a military ship (compared to IFS for example). And too many bones on the QAR - I lent a few to a friend and using the rest to make a bone t-rex moc! More on the deck, the stairs, and the rails added. moving up to the poop deck, I wanted to keep this as similar to the Clipper and my Sea Dragon as possible rear of the poop deck. Pennant attached to a trident the poop deck is modular and can be removed the bottom of the cabin, built with 2x2 slopes quick view of the cabin, much of the stuff is shifted from La Flaga's bunk back on the Sea Dragon, his bunkmates are happier as he has quite a lot of stuff. Other familiar furniture includes a bed from MMV, and the globe and ship in a bottle from POTC how i made the globe stand, it can spin! Using some technic pin and locking knobs to make the slope incline of the cabin's rear, i used another clip technique. the entire panel can technically shift outwards, but is blocked by the cabin railings a door allows the admiral to exit the cabin, onto the private stern deck and enjoy some breeze La Flaga's pet owl and bonsai plants Of course, we Bluecoats need to wash and air our laundry to keep those whites nice! the entire cabin can be removed, also a modular
  6. Now I go to the ship proper! overall pics this is version 2 after a sea-worthyness trial. I extended the height of the 1st main mast by 3 round bricks and changed the sail position to a higher one. As you can see most of the sails and masts are copied wholesale from the QAR's. 5 cannon broadside
  7. QAR stripped down to the hulls All the spares left over from the rebuild And with the spares, Black Beard shall have revenge - stay tuned Introducing The Blue Vengeance, version 1 "Many years after, And on the parade square of Fort Marlin, a parade is celebrated" Attention! a ceremonial guard with the double 'u' clips from brickarms. this is getting kinda boring, eh?
  8. Hi all I recently bought a built up QAR, loved the ship's sail design but dislike the bones. So, I thought of making up a storyline to capture the QAR, have it torn down and rebuilt into a new ship, for the bluecoats of course :) La Bleu Vengeance carries a 5 gun broadside, and is built in the same colour scheme as my Caribbean Sea Dragon, and the Clippers. I'm not sure of the piece count but it should be around 5-700. I added a clip and bar technique for the sloping sides in a humble imitation. My next ship will probably be the 4184 black pearl, and adopt the CGH full frigate method. Ok less talking and more pictures, the first few will be a battle story, the close up shots of the ship will be further down, perhaps post 6,7,8. I will have commentaries where I have things to highlight. This is my 2nd attempt at a comicventure so I am still improving. a line up of zombie and human crew Black Beard, scorge of the East Caribbean at this time fix bayonets, get them! the clipper has also recieved damage! Meanwhile, atop the crows nest, a sniper takes aim! the human crew have mutinied! Zoom!
  9. Shiny, me likes. If there's a 'like' button similar to facebook I'll click that. Mind if I borrow the idea and upsized it to a coin minting treasury for my port??
  10. looks good so far. I think with more bricks, hull pieces and some tidying up of loose parts and ends Calypso will turn out excellent. The size and purported number of guns alone is worth waiting!
  11. shiver me timbers! This is a fantastic looking MOC, big enough to house 2 IFS! Nice details on the port facilities, houses, and soldiers fort - almost like what i have in mind for my Fort Marlin, sans less blue baseplates. Curious about the engraving 1x4 tile, its carved into the plastic? I've not seen that one coming, maybe I'll try it rather than the old painting/stickers method. And you have a nice big white cloth backdrop and lots of studio space to take photos! I can imagine some stepping and lying down on the studs to take photos.
  12. that is 1 fierce section of little green men! I'm more used to seeing the black and metallic versions at my friend's house for his PMC minifigs. Interesting to see some green ones.
  13. thank you! Yes, probably Poseidon(Neptune)
  14. And to add lastly for today, the Governor's daughter's personal ship, the Sea Rose, crewed by an all female crew. They will be getting their own female barracks in the town, already have some brickplans and I dub it, Amazonia.. a posh cabin, though open air. I am being inspired and investing in Paradisa! sets for Amazonia :)
  15. Looked around the forums and figured this would be the best place for this MOC. Mods if this is not the right section then I apologise, do move it to the right subforums. Introducing, Athena the Greek Goddess Helmet and torso is from the emperor in temple of atlantis. Shield is a fountain piece from creator family house. Face and cape from princess tamina of POP set. Nike the minigod messenger is the gold champion trophy from karate Minifig. trident plus gold telescope smiling Athena, goddess and protector of Athens of the Greeks. Warrior and angry Athena, defender of Athens a part of an upcoming MOC, using the ToA column bricks.. this is what i intend to build. a mini version of the Parthenon, Akropolis in Athens, with a chamber for Athena.
  16. Nice MOC and great series of projects! Like all of them, and some interesting use of parts. Very sombre and just like the mural painting.
  17. NOoooo!!! De Ruyter has been disassembled??!! This is a good looking MOC on its own still, like the shooting range- need to incorporate that for my fort, for the new recruits that sign up in the bluecoat camp everyday! Maybe you could continue further on the MOC by finishing up the ruined white buildings as Skipper has suggested? makes for a nice comic storyline on itself too. repairing and upgrading a shore battery. May i suggest something like a gatehouse with portcullis/ giant brown door for the lower building, and a outcrop bastion with 1 or 2 more cannons for the upper left corner building?
  18. While the 15,000 bricks are being amassed slowly for the town. Why don't I entertain you guys with my combined bluecoat fleet? hehehe. They will be homeported in Fort Marlin's bustling harbours once done :) The left most ship is the Sea Dragon, aka Caribbean Capital - wip and completed pics may be found here: Classic Pirates forum piratemoc 'Sea Dragon' Another MOC to introduce is the "sea-wolf", an upgunned and lenghtened clipper, crewed by veteran bluecoat sailors.. poor pirates head from ships that blasted apart by the wolf. additions include an extra 1 pc of hull, 1 more cannon port, a simple cabin, as well as a 2nd mast and 2 more sails, making this ship the same size as Brickbeard Bounty and the BSBaraccuda another moc is the triple plow cannon ship destroyer, mounted on a turntable near the bow. made from some clips and rods, round bricks, on a standard cannon mount Trigger Happy time!
  19. yup, trying to mimic the 10221 and movie bridge. I am still looking through my heap of grey to find a jumper stud and a 1x3 light bluish grey plate as most of mine are the old light grey. Thanks for the feedback I always love to improve. :) It was, sort of thrown together at first, but after 30mins of looping a scene in Episode VI. I edited and rearranged some areas, tidying up, and adding more 1x2 tiles to simulate the busy control section. I'd probably edit again when my small batch of dark bluish grey plates arrive from BL.
  20. Hi all,I'm usually a pirates and castle lego guy, but in the first instance of making a SW MOC, i built 1 of my favourites from the trilogy. Knowing I will never be able to afford or get the UCS 10221 past door security, I settled on a Mini MOC by bashing the normal star destroyer, sith infiltrator, and bits from a MF4504 and vader's Tie.
  21. Sorry guys, my photobucket monthly bandwidth has exceeded. It will reset itself on the 19th, this Friday. So if you could bear with me awhile all will be fine in a few days and can see the photos.
  22. a view of the top deck. Here Samurai and Geisha come in handy the hanji character is 'Jiang', for 'General'. Also note painted bamboo curtains lack of an interior in the little retreat, so Kimono girl blocks the path at the moment flipping open the roof reveals the Daimyo's secret hiding place for his Ninja, ready to carry out covert operations finally a close up of the painted Daimyo in robes.
  23. Hi all, here with my latest MOC while waiting for bricks and parts to arrive for the Port. This is a Atakebune/Sekibune, a type of Japanese Ironclad ship used in the 13th to 16th century samurai era shoguns warships for coastal combat, and during their invasion of Korea in 1500s. The atakebune is a larger, dual powered( sail and oars) version of the smaller Sekibune. The shape is similar to the Korean Panekon turtle ships, which share a similar lineage from more ancicent Chinese vessels. Google is a good friend for more info. If I can remeber, I havent seen one before on EB or BShelf. So without much prior references, I built one up from images on google. This MOC will form part of the international fleet (with my Arabian Xebec and Chinese junk) that will raid my port soon. the bow is from a viking longboat, resprayed in tan side of hull the rear needs some cleaning up, especially the shrine more paddlers needed! This shows the 2 tier arrangement, battlements in middle and oarsmen at bottom most a samurai firing through the battlement
  24. great stuff indeed on the pentagon fortress, not often seen here. Cetainly inspiring and what more done patiently on LDD!
  25. Thank you all who commented so far! - Inconspicuous - the base of the tail was the tail end of the polar bear. There was no way i could cut it off without possibly making the tail end loose. In the end i superglue the tail, and filled up the void with epoxy putty. Will take note when i start doing other big cats. - Brickenhead Town dweller- hehehe I could always call it Garfield! I used tamiya acrylic yellow paint airbrushed on. And the black was done with Ashley ooo brush, tamiya black enamel paints (using cotton bud and enamel thinner to remove errors is easier). Nose details used Citadel paints brown and flesh( the small bottles made by GamesWorkshop for Warhammer 20K series)
