  1. good points about the horse and knight.. I have another probelm and issue as I was building up my alien and my knight. This may be useful and relevant to others as well. Probelm at hand is the issue of overhang, protusions. The knight's lance is so long that when attached to my vignette, it sticks slightly out of the 8x8 base limits( about 3 studs). If i shift it back and abit, then the tail and barding of my horse exits the other side. lol. I am not sure what will be the rules concerning slight protusions of similar accesories, such as flag atop towers, long weapons, on the 8x8 vignette. Of course, since the focus is on the custom minifig itself, I wasn't even sure if it is a valid to be overconcerned about the vignette base! Thanks LuxorV in advance, again, from this inquisitive first-time MOC contest entrant.
  2. blue and yellow looks great, what a coincidence as my work in progress knight is also in blue and yellow! Nice braided sculpy on the helmet.. You could easily do ponytails for female minifigs with that method. Good luck for the contest!
  3. what a lovely and excellent first entry! and funny comic too, I don't think I could ever beat a Grandmaster AND Fatman in a joust hahaha. Be beaten by the 5 Crossaint methods and then pecked by pingu helmet.. Great job, and hope my entry will not embarass meself, but we all will have fun!!
  4. Thank you very much for clearing up my doubts! Time to get started on my knight and my alien right away!
  5. thanks for organizing this contest and thanks to the sponsors with the great prizes! just quick questions about cat 2 and 3.. let's say i'm intending to cut and glue 2 Lego brick parts together to get a 45 degree angle for an alien head sturcture ( a droid head and his arm). would that be allowed or would I have to build it from scratch with sculpy? The rules did not mention explicitly whether cutting and gluing is allowed, just making of new parts, I thought it would be polite to ask first. For the cat 3 joust, I assume custom bardings are allowed? Ie paintovers or cloth/capes etc.. Since most existing designs are in violation of the rules. Also, do we have to use a standard Lego horse for the contest, or can we use a partially brick built horse to allow attaching of additional armour? thanks in advance for answering my queries!
  6. Hi there moderator and organizer peppermintM, with a few days left to go I wonder if it is too late to particpate. I would like to ask if star wars vehicle sets are allowed? I'd want to try and make an underwater version of 1 of my favourite sets lol..
  7. loving this set! the MMV was so nice that I got 2 in the end, looks like its gonna be the same for 'KJ' as well! Nice maiden with the sandgreen prints, some clever techniques of the build, and the black knight is much love - 1 to be used in a joust, the other to feature in Monty Python's "Quest for the Holy Grail" - if anyone remembers the knight in the forest scene lol.. Also, having just watched the HBO series Game of Thrones, the Kingdoms sets suddenly dawn like the Lannisters to me! lol, what with the lion head crests and emblems.. the new maiden in KJ resembles Sansa or Cersei, and the nobleman reminds me of Eddard stark.. definitely a 5/5 set for playabilty, details, new minifigs etc.. but a 2.5/5 since we'd just have to get 2 sets to get that awe-inspiring first picture look. :)
  8. Hi all, here with my new minifig custom. I have also posted this over at classic Pirates forum, since this creation fits both subforums and I want to get differing opinions and constructive critiscm to help me improve. This is a Scottish Highlander Bagpipe man. Customised from the CMF Royal Guard with the help of some colour pencil kilts and scarf. Bagpipe is MOC, using a 3 stalk flower as main basis and clips to hold the rest. Also, I'd like to credit EB members - Spark and Alexandertam and Michael jasper for their Scottish kilt and bagpipe moc techniques, I refered to them and made a spinoff of my own. here's a version with white legs A breakdown of the bagpipes.. pipes are brown telescopes, tied together with a small black rubber band. some tassels are attached, one may change colours or omit them as needed. round green brick forms the bag. with a c clip to attach to the mouthpiece The mouthpiece is a tap, and the clipholder acts as the flute portion where the fingers play. Thanks for looking! Comments and improvements always welcome!
  9. Hi all, here with my new minifig custom. This is a Scottish Highlander Bagpipe man. Customised from the CMF Royal Guard with the help of some colour pencil kilts and scarf. Bagpipe is MOC, using a 3 stalk flower as main basis and clips to hold the rest. I intend to make 1 more of this, and a drummer, to go with my Redcoat army (Yes I do have a sizable platoon of about 30 redcoats! despite being a loyal bluecoat fan) The eventual aim is to create, using my redcoats, a small detachment of Scottish Kilt wearing soldiers to represent the highlands. Also, I'd like to credit Spark and Alexandertam and Michael jasper for their Scottish kilt and bagpipe moc techniques, I refered to them and made a spinoff of my own. here's a version with white legs A breakdown of the bagpipes.. pipes are brown telescopes, tied together with a small black rubber band. some tassels are attached, one may change colours or omit them as needed. round green brick forms the bag. with a c clip to attach to the mouthpiece The mouthpiece is a tap, and the clipholder acts as the flute portion where the fingers play. 10. Adieu my monsieur once-upon-a-time bluecoat. Once comrades, now we turn enemies(in the Lego perspective of course!).. Can't wait to see more of your ship, and neat guns there. And pretty girlfriend too, though she looks a bit cross!!
  11. Comments and feedback definitely welcome!! This ship forms part of the trio of my MOC Asian pirates fleet.
  12. Have finalised and almost done with Qinglong v3.0 Changes made were to the cabin and rear deck, rearrange brick layout, more windows and added bamboo shades (painted windows). The Thatched roof replaced with commander deck. Another touch was to attach viking dragon wings to the rear cabin for more appearance like a 'Long'. photo taken against a black background for clearer view of the sails. also changed the masts and used pirate tree trunks instead. This resembles bamboo poles more. I wanted to use round 2x2 and 1x1 bricks but ran out, otherwise would have made straighter masts. An extra Sail also was made and positions shuffled. More crew is added. And I added a custom minifig Commander who is Guanyu, carrying a big "don't mess with me" 4 barreled pistol. This is just pure fiction,as the general served in the 3rd century AD and never was on a pirate boat. custom dragon mouth cannons.
  13. Hi all, I have finished up the Persian Lion v2.0 . While she may not be as grand as the xebecs such as cb4 and the rest of the marvellous replicas on this forum, I'm still happy enough with this ship as it suffices for my naval wargaming. Changes I made: Added sails and masts, and completely changed the hull layout. I cut down the front bow's making it simpler, and shifted the lionhead brick forward. The full-length deck walls were lowered to a single deck, and less bricks were used. More brown and tan bricks were added as I had more of them in my inventory to use.(notice the archs especially) For the stern captain poop deck, removed the hinge bricks for the slope, and instead mounted it fixed to the rest of the hull. The reduced brick count makes it lighter, and fixed assmbly makes it sturdier. overall view following is various methods I attach the lateen sails to the yardbeams rigging also added, attach by 1x1 clip custom carronades a broadside a view of the inside of the deck camel! the lion mast head ornament stern poop deck rudder And finally some pictures I take against a black background to better show the self made lateen sails
  14. Finish up the Atakebune v2.0 Added mast and sails. Shifted entire boat onto a 32x16 baseplate for ease of play and handling, also remove internal tan plates to be used on other mocs. some rearrangement of rear stern, and deck rails. Lowered the brick count full complement of rowers - most of my faded vintage castle minifigs -ROW YOU SLAVES! external view of the rowers view of the decks. custom cannon Daimyo is briefing 2 ninjas for the next mission. 1 is a ninjago cole, the other is a ex-star war royal guard with change head close up of the water area, with simulated waves. And also a picture of the edited stern.
  15. well if British agent 007 Daniel Craig is shooting aliens, masked as a cowboy informant in the 1850s, why not the redcoats fight some Alien Conquests!! 1. some nice photography here. 2. This has sparked some imagination for me as well, Egyptian chariots, koulash infantry and Assyrian archers to fight brickforge roman legions (and CMF series 6 ones). 3. Us french bluecoats will not take this initiative by the redcoats anymore. Time to show some blue power!
  16. thanks guys for the comments so far. With the recent MF5 release i had some fun taking photos zookeeper girl "bananas for the chimp" "drumsticks for the tiger" gladiator vs tiger the 'other' gladiator vs tiger
  17. Gives me an idea And as a tribute and joke(no offence) to the unflinching Royal Guard doing their humble and important duties Faster than you can say Avast!
  18. thanks guys, your intitial feedback has helped improved the model by alot. Also thanks for the feature on the blog frontpage 2 weeks back, I didnt know it until I checked it just now! My next SW project is with the Advent calendar. Trying to build the scene from Yavin where the red squadron x-wings lock s-foils in position . And also building the Deathstar trench scene in advent mini scale - so do keep a lookout in a couple of weeks!
  19. I'm probably going to get a few more to make French Bluecoat greanadiers. And custom dark blue torsos to make the Danish Royal Life Guard - I'm guessing TLG had probably made lots of them and presented to the Royalty. I'd think that the bearskin hats are overly larged as mentioned, best saved for ceremonial guards MOC, band and drum majors, special troops and the like. But the torso does add variety to the Redcoat formations IMO.
  20. this one looks great! nice use of techniques and great photography!
  21. Here with an updated SSD mk2 , with changes to the bridge and front hull. ala my final version to display on shelf made the bridge smaller, with a clip plate and the original sheild domes mounted on a 1x2 jumper tile. This allows the bridge to be as small as possible( less than a 1x3plate which would have been the other alternative) the darkgrey section is removable here i show the studs attaching the top and bottom wings - that also allow a constant angle for the plates Thanks for looking and the comments!
  22. my MF5 arrived and i went to pick up a few pieces. I thought that they would go well with ma redcoats! So i did this short comic in a jiffy, also posted over at the 'special themes' subforum as well. them royal guards feel right at home next to the Redcoats.. Now , hands up those who are collecting more to beef up their redcoat armies! Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy my humble contribution.
  23. Hi everyone. Finally I have found the right place to post my MF5 and other series photos. Still a humble amatuer, all of these vignettes took less than 15 minutes to build up and photo. Its a quiet afternoon in port marlin and our denizens are out on a fishing trip.. coconuts? Inspired by a Pirate forum member's MOC. Some fisherman are lucky! Some may not be Some are just plain crazy ---- Our dear rock star from the 60's, now but a singer on the streets for a few dollars.. mf4 rock star + MVR pauper + mf5 mafia guitar casing. and coins. ---
  24. a LOTR series would certainly please afol communities the world over. Even if it did not get released and was just a rumor, we'll still be buying lego to customize into lotr anyway.. nonetheless i hope the day i see a UCS 10xxx series Minas tirith, with thousands of white bricks like the Taj mahal. But It probably isnt likely.. and a us$199 Helm's deep battle wall, and Uruk Hai/Rohan/Gondor/Lorien Elves battlepacks at $15 each.. We can all Imagine can't we? hehe
  25. Hehehe.. I think historically speaking the Redcoat British woulda won, since they probably had 200 years more to hone field tactics and weapons to conquer Pax Britannia, defeat Napoleon, race against other European military powers, lessons learnt from the American revolution etc etc..., whilst the Japanese had relative peace for about 200 years from 1600s to 1800s.. Moreover, Japan had no Navy to speak of in these years, where the Royal Navy was nigh at her prime. They could coastal bombard Edo and Tokyo to bricks and tiles. In LEGO however, your imagination makes anything possible! Ninjas in the dead of night stealthily kill the best British officers, and scream Ninjago!!! and whirl around the panicking redocats.
