  1. I will never understand the army building side of this hobby but I respect it. It has enough fans with enough money to make these sets very profitable for Lego. And clones are way more popular than any other faction right now so they will keep selling until we stop buying. We're like the Galactic Republic people who got tricked by the Senate to get a clone army. Lego are just the Kaminoans.
  2. I understand C of G, but the stand footprint provides stability when the model is manipulated at the extremities. Its over a meter long, accidents will happen and a longer stand makes the difference between a few parts knocked off and a test flight. Gears might self lock but theres always play in those, plus I wonder about the load path and structure deflection when taking the weight. I understand the disappointment of Lego Ideas designers, but it's unfortunately part of the process. Orbiter 88 wing design was also a single SNOT layer but at least he used rounded bricks for the leading edge. I would have liked to see the use of curved slopes, especially for a surpersonic wing.
  3. So grateful Lego is making a proper plane again. Little disappointed by the wing build and concerned about the tiny stand (maybe it's weighted down). Curious to see if can rest on its landing gear. Toilet...check. I work for Airbus, maybe I will get a discount.
  4. Came back from vacation and find a box on the porch. What is this? Forgot I pre-ordered the Spider Tank back in May. 😁 Bo Katan print looks amazing and it will be fun MOCing the tank to add pseudo-Grievous in it.
  5. Wouldn't want to nitpick, but is it shown as brown or reddish brown? This is a serious forum about a premium product after all. False advertising implies intent, otherwise it's probably just a mistake.
  6. Disappointed by the T6, for me the 2011 version is still better. E-Wing and Shin Fighter are very well done, and the scale of the former is closer to the EU renditions I remember. Great minifigs for both sets. Chewie is the Lego equivalent of the SW Christmas Special: unnecessary and weird.
  7. Never tell me the odds! Best I'm hoping for personally is a micro-fighter with Cal, that would make me very happy.
  8. Funny you mention the Twilight, it was chunky and pretty disproportionate in order to be sturdy, and the wing wasn't as thin and long. Even with a large imperial cog, the weight unbalance would be hard to control. The play feature on the V-19 required dampers and at least that set was laterally symmetrical. It's just difficult to build a ship like this without repulsorlift tech. The video game risk is definitely a factor too. Unless we see the Mantis on screen sooner than we thought.
  9. I don't think we can realistically expect a playscale Mantis simply because it cannot be made swooshable. The wing aspect ratio is too high and the model is assymetrical, making it harder to meet Lego ever stricter build rules. Fondor on the other hand...
  10. Do you still hear the womp rats Luke?
  11. "Whatever our final version of success looks like, there's no chance any of us can make it real on our own. We need Lego to help." That's the thing, Andor might just be better than Mando.
  12. UCS Fondor would be amazing. That ship is the Star Wars version of a Q-car.
  13. Tempted to pull the trigger on the RC but it hasn't gone out of stock yet. I think in this economy less people will buy expensive sets like this. I hope Lego is taking notes.
  14. If 42145 doesn't have cyclic control then the swashplate doesn't need to tilt. One possibility is they have the same piece sliding up and down on the rotor shaft below the rotor (hidden by the tall superstructure above the cockpit), it's movement controlled by a vertical translation mechanism decoupled from the rotor rotation. I also hope I'm wrong. One thing is sure, a square opening is ripe for stress cracks.
  15. Impressive. I am biased but choppers are way cooler than supercars. Makes me wonder what I could do with the Ferrari 488?
  16. Much appreciated. Celebrities can afford flying in one while we can only dream of building this model! Thanks for the kind words. The physical build was fun because you test and verify the assumptions made during the digital design phase. Here's a few pictures of different liveries I have been working on. Netjets Bombardier
  17. Well, it's like they say: if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
  18. I'm melting mine into minifig helmets and torso armor of course. This is the way.
  19. Pretty sure Aunt Beru has been mentioned several times as a desired minifig. I for one am pretty happy about it, it's a quirky little set that I will hold on to. Price threshold is quite high however, should have spread my SW purchases a little bit better instead of splurging on the last GWP to get a monkey army. Would not be surprised if Owen shows up later this year. This is not the UCS we're looking for.
  20. Fair enough. They probably would not choose him anyway as the first character to feature this new piece. For the effect to be convincing I think the colors of the minifig need to be adjusted. But still, a QGJ cameo in Kenobi seems too good to pass up. I know Liam said he wasn't approached but his jedi mind tricks don't work on me.
  21. Because QGJ is shown in the force ghost piece, someone suggested it could be from an upcoming Kenobi set.
  22. If it's close to 50 cm long then it will be canonically (ANH) scaled to constructible characters (roughly 7:1). Something to get excited about! I will mod it regardless because I doubt Lego designed it for "action figures" that have been discontinued.
  23. Anyone knows what the UCS Landspeeder scale will be? Any chance it will fit constructible characters or will it be another random scale based on limiting the parts count?
  24. Hello all, finally got around to finish the physical build. The stability and stiffness of the wing and wing/fuselage connection are very good (I guess those several digital re-designs paid off). Another unexpected bonus of using curved slopes on top of long plates for the leading edge is that it bends the wing slightly upward, similar to the way lift does on the real aircraft when flying. The only issue here are the winglets that rotate too easily. The aft fuselage was another story. While the center fuselage is kept stiff by the cabin sides acting as I-beams, the aft fuse connection was using only stacked plates internally. It wasn't not enough to keep the tail from sagging, even before I put the engines on. I ended up adding a connection linking the studs on side of the curve wedges (below the tail) to the aft fuselage. The horizontal stabilizer connection to the vertical fin is the only section I'm still not happy with strength-wise (suggestions welcome please). I was hoping the model would balance when sitting on the main gear but it's a little too tail heavy. A small stand about 1 cm behind the wheels does the trick. I wish LEGO made compact weighted bricks. Next step is designing decals to detail the model (since I recently got acquainted with using Part Designer). I was thinking of doing the Netjets livery first. I'll leave you with a shot of the interior with top fuselage removed. Cheers.
  25. Did anyone say Powered Zipline! N-1 is a miss AFAIC. While recognizable the design was probably rushed. In this state it is overpriced. Regardless, I will get it to build a "Quote" scene with Peli and her ex-boyfriend: "Oh, that's okay. I'm working on me right now. Just go find the parts. (to Din): Furry." I enjoyed BoBF very much.
