UCS A-Wing would be more accurate - but mini-fig isn't really a good scale by measurement - but its a good design honestly. I favor the UCS one honestly :)
-
More worried about them holding on the underside in terms of weight....if i need to thicken the "hole" with bricks with axle holes or cap them with a technic "clutch"?
-
Well post them here for references and let everyone make their conclusions on scale/accuracy. :)

what are you using for references? Welcome to my pain on my Otana lol.

[MOC] TIE Phantom (2026 January Update)
Kage Goomba replied to Monkeyulize's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Just did some work on the Otana here..would be great to get some feedback from you @Monkeyulize Also may need to pick your brains on this defective TIE Defender I blew a grand on no thanks to the idiot who didn't audit his damn model. Need to salvage my investment and redo his entire design :P You seem to have good taste on the subject matter. -
Sorry for the long "Dry spell" - been staring at this for a while trying to come up with a solution. Here's the 3rd attempt at the turret. Stripped the "stolen" quad guns off the UCS falcon down further - removed the extraneous crap and simplified to make it able to fit. Then I squeezed the length of the dome frame so it would be centered. Now it is. It's not a circle - but it looks better. I've lost the mounting solution on this iteration - but those 4 axle holes on the pieces are likely where I'll mount from as they are there. May need @Kdapt-Preacher to test to see if it will be strong enough to hold with or without assistance if he's got the parts :) Anyway...what do you guys think? I'll have to change the plating on the engine array but I'm hopeful it won't be terrible. PS: no loose bits - short of the obvious as I'm going to reinforce/strengthen.

This looks good..seriously....but I'd love to see more detail-definition. I got a TIE Defender that I paid for instructions wise but the idiot designer never audited his bloody model - so trust me when I say this - I truly appreciate you looking for feedback and checking on things. Def. learned a lot when it comes how I'll handle my Otana build (see link below) Would be neat to see an UCS version of this. -
@Onecrazy95civic VERY Nice.

The height won't change much....kind of wish I could taper it a bit more (if that's the term) - ill have to think about it.
-
It's coming along.....going to be a monster for sure when its done lol. (click my signature for those who don't know what I'm talking about) It is really good to see yours coming along nicely too - looking forward to it. :)

@NathanR heeeey...your back. Nice. I get like that with my Otana too - don't be discouraged - happy to show how I did my mandibles if you need some suggestions on underside plating. Sadly a lot of it is faith they will hold lol. I keep staring at my UCS ISD and use that as my little reminder that it can hold even if its tenuous at best.

Yeah those techniques won't work - at least not without having to redo entire sections all over. If anything I give you credit for making me think differently about it. Piece count in the end didn't really change all that much - but its coming together and I'm willing to work with the outcome in terms of being able to reach the locking pins more easily than before. I'll send you a private message showing why its not as simple as it looks in terms of what your suggesting. As for the off centeredness nature of the turret - yep - saw that coming miles and miles away. Lego's limitations and other issues are the cause. Let no one say your not a jerk :P - wait till you see my review of the MOC TIE Defender I got coming - I picked it cause it looked good (boy that was a mistake - hopefully one I can recuperate.) - Also those aren't escape pods - I tend to think those are cargo hatches/docking ports. Call it a difference of opinion - but yes...its not great but its not terrible.
-
Not that I'm an expert...but if I had to give my 2 cents. Frankly I don't think people really care. The only time its an issue is if you KNOW it belongs to someone else - the simplest thing to do is to ask for permission...minimum - give credit where credit is due. Generally if you do that much - no ones going to lift a finger. Its a very large grey area to be honest.

I am humbled by your kind words sir. I see you frequenting many threads and offering quality feedback as such - I greatly appreciated your presence here. As to the computer - nothing really that fancy. PC Specs: Case: Lian Li DK-04FX Desk CPU: Intel i7 3.7GHz Coffee Lake Motherboard: EVGA 123-CS-E397 Z930 FTW RAM: 64GB DDR4 Storage: RAID 1 Mirrored (OS) 2x SSD Samsung 860 EVO 1TB RAID 1 Mirrored (Storage/Games) 2x Seagate Exos Enterprise (Datacenter) 2TB HDD 7200 RPM with 128MB Cache 6GB/s SATA (24/7 Uptime 10 Year Warranty) GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 XC ULTRA (aka "The Brick") 8GB DDR6 Cooling: Active Air - 7 Noctua 2000-2200 RPM 120M Fans CPU - Noctua Cooling Fan Power Supply - 1000W EVGA Modular 10 Year Warranty Corporate Grade WiFi Card (Diagnostic Purposes) USB3 Expansion Card The only hang up I've had with Stud.io is its rendering engine or dealing with a stability test - but it figures it out eventually. This is a labor of love - been a dream of mine to build one out - its not prefect - but I have to admit - the rear engine section turned out rather nice. Wait till you hear of my review of a TIE Defender I bought as an experiment in dealing with bulk part purchasing. Opened my eyes on how I should approach THIS model when it comes to instructions and parts.
