Please to share with you a castle MOC I made that is draws some inspiration from Hogwarts. The build started with a technic mechanism to make the griffin topped stairwell appear and rise (see animated gif). The height of the castle was a result of trying to hide the mechanism which ended up being far larger than I had first thought it would be. The raised gallery on the side was added to balance asymmetry of the Headmaster's towers on the right. This is my largest build to date, but I think I'll stick to more manageable sized builds that can fit on my desk in the future. Finally, I've included my IG profile that has more videos/photos https://www.instagram.com/gilderoy_blockhart/ Front view by Alex Lam, on Flickr Side View by Alex Lam, on Flickr Arcade by Alex Lam, on Flickr Technic stairwell mechanism by Alex Lam, on Flickr Griffin stairwell animated gif by Alex Lam, on Flickr Dumbledore's fold out office by Alex Lam, on Flickr

[MOC] - HP Battle of Seven Potters

Dueling Club MOC from Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets - finished ! This started out as a simple mosaic build to see if I could recreate the wonderful table design used in the film. Then it became and XXL rebuild of the original set 4733 from 2002. You'll see some of the pieces reused like the banner, lion's heads as well as Harry and Draco's old school torso and hair. More pictures on my IG if you're interested. instagram.com/gilderoy_blockhart/ dueling_club 1 by Alex Lam, on Flickr dueling_club 3 by Alex Lam, on Flickr dueling_club 4 by Alex Lam, on Flickr dueling_club 7 by Alex Lam, on Flickr dueling_club 8 by Alex Lam, on Flickr

"as high as a church and full of nothing but towering shelves covered in small, dusty, glass orbs. They glimmered dully... their flames burning blue." - The Order of the Phoenix Hall of Prophecy MOC, a chamber on level 9 of the British Ministry of Magic. With some creative license, I built a ministry-inspired enclosure around the shelves of orbs so I could frame and hide the forced perspective illusion. Also some pictures of the "orbs" that I made while I was impatient for my PAB order of Mysterio's helmet piece to arrive. Hope you like it. [MOC/MOD] - Harry Potter: Movie in a Box
gilderoy_blockhart replied to gilderoy_blockhart's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks ! I always thought of it as a quasi-Newt Scamander type magical suitcase. Truth is I just didn't know how to finish the top off as it's anti-studs facing up and I didn't want just a blank brown surface... so why not a handle ! thank you ! i'm not very good with microscale builds, my first time ! So tempted to make a BORG version or a Star Wars version. Some kind of Imperial device...hahah ! The mosaic for school emblems were fun to make. Took a lot of revising. I can't take full credit for the Horntail. I did look up other people's microscale dragon and most used the wings from CMF dragon boy / dragon girl figure. So I used that as a start point. -

Pleased to share with you my Harry Potter themed "Question Block"! It's a summary of a the third HP movie, The Goblet of Fire in a block. It features the important scenes including the three tasks from the Triwizard Challenge, the Yule Ball as well as the climax between Harry and Voldemort in Little Hangleton. I'm not a Super Mario fan, but was very interested in the mechanism behind Lego's question block set. Too cheap to buy the set and not wanting a bunch of yellow parts... so I built the mechanism with my own collection and then gave it a new look and theme. It's sort of like how people often remodel the Death Star model along different themes. It'd be neat to see the original N64 cube set have variations along other themes too... Star Trek version - Borg Cube, anyone ?!?! Can't post video but if you want to see it in action or more images, here's my IG if you're interested: instagram.com/gilderoy_blockhart/ cube_9 by Alex Lam, on Flickr cube_10 by Alex Lam, on Flickr cube_8 by Alex Lam, on Flickr cube_4g by Alex Lam, on Flickr

[MOC] - HP Battle of Seven Potters
gilderoy_blockhart replied to gilderoy_blockhart's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks so much ! That part was so fun to make, even though it's SO fragile and had to be rebuilt so many times !! Makes an otherwise gray tube a lot less boring to look at ! -
[MOC] Microscale Le Mont Saint Michel - Normandy France
gilderoy_blockhart replied to Guts 24's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is a really fabulous build ! I have the utmost respect for microscale builders. It's so much harder to make a big impact when you're limited to a smaller canvas. Bravo !! -
[MOC] - HP Battle of Seven Potters
gilderoy_blockhart replied to gilderoy_blockhart's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks ! It was quite a pain to set up the lights, yet without them the moc lacks the danger of the original scene. I probably made life hard for myself trying to photograph different scenes and having to have to rewire each one for each shot. One good thing though is that the new road plates that a lot of people don't like have the 2x4 tiles that cover studs with holes in them. Makes hiding wiring deep inside the model easier to do ! About the deatheater, I kind of cheated. I glue-gunned the head perpendicular to the neck to make it look like they were looking forwards while flying. I figured it'd be blurry so not as noticeable...Shhh... don't tell anyone ! :) -
[MOC] - HP Battle of Seven Potters
gilderoy_blockhart replied to gilderoy_blockhart's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks ! This is more like Part 2 of the Battle of Seven Potters. Totally agree, I've probably got about 30 Harry heads lying around already... hard not to avoid the minifig as he is the titular character. Thank you... honestly, there were times it really did feel that way. Thanks so much ! Thanks so much... took a bit of trial and error, happy with the way it turned out in the end Thanks ! I do like the way lighting really gives a build more life, especially the way you get reflections.... Is that where the head was from? There's not many non-yellow heads with goggles that don't look like a SuperHero (e.g. Hawekeye) and more normal. The whole scene in the film is SOO short... but I really do love the sequence. I was inspired to build this after I watched the Behind the Scenes filming on the Blu-Ray editions of the HP films. Really is 'magical' what goes in behind the films ! -

Though not in the original books, I really loved this most memorable scene from the Deathly Hallows Pt1 film. Hagrid and Harry do the "loop-d-loop" to avoid head on traffic while evading Death Eaters during the Battle of Seven Potters. It was supposed to be a small build, but like many things it quickly grew in scope and became a much bigger project. Here it is ! This is only a small sample of pictures... there's a lot more on my IG. Link provided below. Enjoy !! Happy to share with you some vignettes that I built from the Harry Potter movies. Here are two scenes from Dumbledore's office featuring his Pensieve and Memory Cabinet. Hope you enjoy ! There are more HP builds on my instagram Pensieve 1 by Alex Lam, on Flickr "What you are looking at are memories. In this case containing to one individual. Thanks for your compliments ! I really enjoyed putting this together though it took a lot of experimenting and rebuilding - which is the fun part of course ! Waiting for bricklink orders, not so much ! I agree... it'd be amazing to get a molded grindylow (sp?) as they've already made molded Cornish pixies. Definitely not a UCS version, LOL !

Come seek us where our voices sound, We cannot sing above the ground, An hour long you'll have to look, To recover what we took. Very pleased to bring you my MOC of the Second Task from the Triwizard Tournament. The scene under the Black Lake with the Merpeople is my favourite - how more magical can you get? My goal was to really try to get that 'underwater' feeling and to create the illusions of 'depth' that you see in the movie. I only included a few pictures here, but I have a lot more on my IG account so do take a look. Thanks very much. It was only my second custom moc from about a year ago when were in full out lockdown. Had to use what bricks I had ! I love doing the little touches like the snow, just to give it that less than precise appearance of reality. I have one last module to photograph, but it's taking me a long time. School has started and I'm teaching a new grade this year so a lot of work after the school day is done. I hope to put it together by December... that will be about 2 years since I first started, LOL !!!
