  1. That's actually quite charming. Reminds me of a mix between this old (pre-film) Harry Potter calendar I had and those sets from the original 2001 line with the cardboard backgrounds.
  2. Interesting, thanks for the info! Could you share a picture of the Myrtle illustration? Now I'm curious
  3. If they're putting images of the 2011 Gringotts in a new book, that probably means we're not getting a new Gringotts this year.
  4. If it's a quidditch set, I hope it's either the big D2C or includes great minifigures (please give us Lee!) otherwise... If it's the flying lesson, that probably means the castle section will be boxy like the others. But we'll see. Gold Quirrell is an interesting choice. Makes me think that maybe the gold minifigures are supposed to be based on the original 2001 line. In that case, maybe Goldemort is actually Peeves lol
  5. I wasn't a fan of the pink at first either. I originally planned to swap the colours, but then I built the set and realised it looks a lot better in person than in the photos/renders. It's honestly my favourite set ever, I can't recommend it enough. That's terrifying lol. That being said, the head of the 2010 Dobby looks so much more like him than the newer one. It does! Well spotted
  6. A lot of the very first Lego Batman minifigures were based on the animated series. But yeah, it would be interesting to see some newer versions. I haven't bought a DC set since all the way back to the first tumbler, but every year I check out the lineup hoping there's something that would interest me. I wish they'd make some comics-based sets with more advanced builds.
  7. Exactly. You're not just paying for the bricks, you're buying the design. If we could all design as well as Marcos Bessa that would be a different story, but most of us can't.
  8. This is a forum for discussing Lego sets. Without critique, there's no discussion. I assure you, no one is losing sleep over disappointing set designs.
  9. Yeah, I saw a MOC similar to what you're describing on Lego Ideas a while back. It's too bad, that concept would have been a lot better than what we got.
  10. I don't necessarily think that's true. They could have easily done a COS in the new style with generic castle wall on the exterior. Snape's classroom from the WW set wasn't underneath anything despite the fact that canonically it's in the dungeons. The COS doesn't have to be entirely underneath the castle as long as the bathroom is above it. It especially didn't have to be below the great hall since it's actually the kitchens that are supposed to be there
  11. That's probably a big part of it, but also it could be that the older sets had things like hidden doors and strange objects that were put in just for fun whereas in the reboot almost everything is based on something specific from the film sets. Not necessarily. Even in the style that they chose, they're still much different from the original sets. For instance, the original COS didn't have the great hall on top. I think they probably could have done a larger, more detailed COS with nothing on top and we would have been happier about it.
  12. Huh, never even knew about that. That's pretty cool
  13. The first HP set I got was Gringott's Bank, a gift from my aunt. I also had Dumbledore's Office, Dobby's Release, and Slytherin. My sister had Diagon Alley Shops. I think my favourite thing about these sets were the little nooks and crannies with hidden keys, books, and other things. I liked how the sets were filled with loads of magical items and special printed pieces. I had a little fold-out poster of the diagram showing how all the sets should be stacked and would always look at it, wishing I had enough of the sets to be able to stack them. There's something about modulars I really like. It's like stacking bricks, but the bricks are made up of smaller bricks But what's this holographic Dumbledore card everyone is talking about? I don't remember that.
  14. I second this; big fan of@Scarlet_Patronus's MOCs. On the topic of possible sets for August... I don't think anyone has mentioned the café from DH. Being an action scene, it might make for a good set in Lego's eyes. Rowle and Dolohov minifigures might be a draw for some people. I think it fits the bill for "surprising" as well as "disappointing" to some. Just throwing that out there.
  15. Not enough Harry. Give us four Harrys with short legs in Gryffindor jumpers.
  16. Okay, can't argue with that lol. She gave a little bit of info about Nott in the Malfoy article on the old Pottermore. It's probably somewhere on archive.org I always mistakenly thought the other Slytherin boy in the POA snowball fight scene was Nott as well. How about a new "Hogwarts Student Accessory Pack" with Bem, Pike, Nigel, and Michael?
  17. Did she ever specify that he was Nott, though? If I remember correctly, he's just referred to as a "Slytherin boy."
  18. Yeah, that's never gonna happen. I think we can all move on from that idea.
  19. They really should make a new Snape figure with a black waistcoat instead of purple. I know the costume it's based on is technically purple, but it's extremely dark and appears black in the film. As for vaults underneath Diagon Alley... I really don't see how that would be possible. Even if it was possible, I don't see how that could look good. Am I missing something? You can't connect anything under a baseplate.
  20. If that was the case, it would turn my "maybe" into a hard pass. The only way I'd buy the bathroom or the Fluffy set is if the minifigures look good. Otherwise I'd be paying for structures I'm not really crazy about and characters of which I already have better versions. As for the COS, I'm already planning on just bricklinking the figures I want.
  21. A chess set could be interesting. If they did it, it would probably be based on the life-size one at the end of Philosopher's Stone. Or they could do one based on the one Harry and Ron play at Christmas. That version is a lot less likely, but it would be nice as it looks like a classic Lewis chess set.
  22. The suit of armour isn't that bad. We haven't gotten any in the reboot yet, have we? I liked the architect statue from the Advent calendar as well. To be honest, I wouldn't mind more statues/armour.
  23. Loads of people immediately complained about the price as soon as the set was announced, so yeah haha
  24. True about the shipping. But yes, sometimes the discounts really are that big. For instance, the Sith Tie Fighter was going for $40 not too long ago and it was an $80 set.
  25. Sometimes you can get sets on Bricklink for like 50% off
