Tips to start building a Castle army?
John Cromwell replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If you want skeletons, you were correct, it is cheaper to by the individual skeleton parts and assemble them. I recently bought 18 (I think) loose armed skeletons off of Bricklink by buying the arms and torsos from one seller, and the legs and heads from another, and it was much cheaper to buy the individual pieces. -

[MOC] The Castle of AAAAAAARGH

Soo... you used string to thread the leaves? Or did you just stick the leaves into each other so they stuck? -
Wow! Very nice. Other than the studs, this looks like a model you could purchase from your local crafts store! Beautiful!

Thanks much! Thank you. I had some trouble trying to make the tank as close to the original as possible. There's only so much detail I could cram onto it.

Wow! impressive! I especially like the roof! Are the shields and torsos custom, or am I just not up-to-date on all Lego prints?

[MOC] The Castle of AAAAAAARGH
John Cromwell replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very cool! I like that you managed to incorporate it all onto a raised baseplate. you usually don't see people employ those when MOCing. That poor Crusader... Question, what in the world did you do to make that tree? It has no rhyme or reason whatsoever... -
Very nice, @Niku! That's an interesting way of going about making armies, also I like that you liken them to historical armies.

As the name suggests, this is a MOC I made of the title character from the video game franchise of the same name: Metal Slug. A little bit of backstory. The SV-001 (nicknamed Metal Slug) was a revolutionary tank, designed by the Regular Army before being captured by the Rebel Army and used against it's creators. The Regular Army was losing battles left and right until they sent two special agents to either reclaim or destroy the stolen Metal Slugs. Their names were Marco Rossi and Tarma Roving. That's the backstory of the first game. Here is a picture of the SV-001: As you can see, this is not your normal tank. From it's fat small chubbiness, to the sideways figure-8 style treads to the little headlight on top of the turret, this tank is either adorable or really weird looking, or both! It is armed with two vulcan cannons on either side of the turret, and also the main turret. In-game, the vulcan cannons had unlimited ammo and were your primary offensive tools, contrasting the main turret which started with 10 rounds but was very powerful. Being a fan of the Metal Slug games, I figured I should make the SV-001 in Lego form. Here is my interpretation of what it should look like: Here is a different angle: Views from the front, side, and back. Underneath: I also concocted a small, four man army to go with the Metal Slug. Look no further than old, classic Star Wars torsos for all you army building needs! Feedback is appreciated! Also, if you want further pictures of the tank or soldiers, let me know!

You have been warned, @Mister Phes! Your hubris shall be your undoin'... Oh, and last time I checked, they didn't have fog machines back then. It be the Devil's doing, them disappearing like that...

My good sir, you don't know what you are getting into. That ship has withstood assault from the very best England, France, and Spain have had to throw at it. Tales say that ship is cursed, or blessed, depending on the stories. Once, it was attacked by an English fleet and was being forced to sail towards an English port where it would be surrounded on all sides. All of a sudden, a thick fog blew in (for it was night) and when it dispersed, the Black Shadow was GONE... Gone I tell ye! The best option to do if ye encounter it is say your prayers, unfurl all the sails and dump the cargo. Even then, you may not survive... Thanks! You can find more pictures of that quad-barreled death device here.

Haha, yep, I have several bookmarks of your posts from pirate ships and ports to different kinds of cannons! Actually since Mocpages.com has gone the way of the dodo, I can't find some of your older stuff, like this: gunfire and other forms of merciless metal. Yeah, I thought that was very cool since no one else had done that before (to my knowledge). Thanks for taking the time to check it out! Hahahaha! I didn't notice that until you pointed it out! Good eye! Nope, that's just a mistake I made. Although... maybe it's Captain Scurlock's personal sign, or maybe it's because he has a vendetta against a fellow pirate? I'm open to suggestions! Thanks much! I recently renovated it, as you can see because the older pictures don't include a bunch of stuff, including the Chima wings. It wouldn't be the same without swivels!

@Mister Phes Well, that 'surveillance parrot' better not fly too close. I doubt you will ever see that parrot ever again...

What exactly constitutes a "real" Castle theme?
John Cromwell replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Personally, I would like a reboot of the classic Castle from the 80s and 90s. The same Black Falcon shield, Crusader torso, Black Knights oval shield, etc. Of course, I would also like Lego to reverse the Bley Shift and use classic colors so as to not have an 80s Black Falcon set with dark grey and then a 2021 Black Falcon set with bluish dark grey, but... that's another story. I wouldn't mind some fantasy elements thrown in. The Dragon Masters were a great addition to the Castle line, with their wizard, magic wand, and dragon included. It breathed a bit of fresh air into a line which was becoming a little stale. But, since it's pretty wishful thinking to think Lego would reboot 80s and 90s Classic Castle, I would say yes, have one faction that uses fantasy elements and have another (or two) that are purely Medieval castle. AND let us, the consumer, chose who is good and who is bad. Don't make an obviously 'evil' faction and an obviously 'good' faction. That's were the beauty of the Classic Castle shown, since no one was inherently good, or bad, we were allowed to chose. -
We'll see about that! You can have your revenge if you can find us!

Here are a couple of pictures I took a while back, before the sails were complete. The Black Shadow rips into the smaller Spanish vessel, the Estrella de la Norte. The smaller Spanish ship is a rip-off of one of @Sebeus I's ships as well. The first one he posted, actually. The smoke was his design as well, so credit to him for that!

Thanks, I will definitely do that in the future! Thanks! If you want a picture of something in a close-up, or something else I didn't photograph let me know!

Foreward: This MOC you are about to behold was heavily influenced by the Mechanical Pirate Ship 2 by @Sebeus I and was the inspiration for my version. All credit due to him goes to him. Now, on with the show! The name brings fear into even the most stalwart and courageous of men. She has claimed countless lives, and disrupted trade and commerce throughout the Atlantic. The Black Shadow! It was once a prototype mechanical topsail schooner for the English Navy, before it was stolen by the feared Captain Robert Scurlock. He converted it into a fully-rigged ship-of-the-line. (The sails are all custom-made by me, and yes, they are 1" black and white stripes, just like Lego's.) The Bow: Pardon the dust, they recently sailed through the Dusty Straits and haven't had the time to clean up the ship. The Stern: Now for close ups: Apologies for the darker pictures, the sails really darkened up the pictures. Now for the insides. I had to remove the masts for these shots. So, what I envisioned in the beginning was to make a ship that could defend itself from all angles, since the bow and stern of a ship are usually weak sections that are more vulnerable to attack. My solution to this problem? Stick cannons in those areas. There are four cannonades protecting the stern. Two on the main deck, and two underneath the Captain's cabin. For the front, I decided to take a page from Pirates of the Caribbean, and @Sebeus I. And of course, one last photo of the Captain of this mighty vessel. His head is unique because it is a darker shade of red that I have not found anywhere else. More photos of the ships and rest of the crew can be found on Flickr. Ask any questions if you have them! Cheers!

Accessing building interiors

The hinge technique, or the removable wall section? I was born in the early 2000s and sadly never had the chance to grow up with those gems. Yet I have a certain disdain to the modern Lego sets because most of them are licensed from Marvel, or Harry Potter, or DC, etc. Nothing is original anymore. I enjoy the olden days when pirates fought dudes in blue and red coats, tic-tac colored astronauts built space bases and castles were sieged by other castle dudes, not the obviously evil wizard and his minions attacking the obviously good king and his castle. Ah, to have lived in that era. Oh well. -
Thanks! I was raised right and taught that others need their due respect. It is quite sad to see the absence of that today... Lucas

were are good places to buy castle mocs ?
John Cromwell replied to valon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm not sure there are places to buy castle mocs. If you want official Lego castle sets, try Bricklink or occasionally eBay. Or just do what I do and copy someone else's design or model and you will probably make it your own in the process. That's what I usually do. Hopefully this helps! -
Thanks man! I am a big fan of your ships, especially the older ones you did, since those are more 'Lego-esque' i.e. something Lego could have built for their Pirates line. I will post it as soon as possible!
