Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness

I feel like urging Bernard to finish off the sickly creature at once, but then think better of it and remain silent.- 607 replies

Quest 124 was a really great read. I think the relatively light nature of the quest mixed with the party's horrific luck (and too powerful battles) made it more of a comedy than anything...or maybe that was just Bobby. I really liked reading this quest but maybe I just like "short and sweet" quests generally speaking. Thanks to all those who played in it.

It's not the first time Pretzel has used that line.

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"This may be our only chance to get in," I hiss out of the corner of my mouth to Nerwen. "Drop our weapons or throw a Smoke Bomb? Attempt to fight?" "Surely, you wouldn't part an old man from his walking stick," I say more loudly to buy time.- 607 replies

8 SP from the Robe of the Archmagi. I would consider taking that. Of course, if it takes two artifact slots together...then no.

"At least the Paladins are paying us...hopefully. Nah, they look like they're good enough folk. Everyone else though..." I give Grimwald a fretful glance. "At least our team looks pretty reasonable, not like some I've had to work with."- 607 replies

"Not that I care much about what he says," I whisper to Grimwald, "but that's why just handing out power to anyone will throw this world into chaos. If every genuinely wicked person, let's just say this Gocklo isn't, had access to such magic, the world would be in flames in minutes. That's not even taking into account those who would use their powers accidentally. Anyway, it looks like we've got quite a rotten team to work with, on both sides, this time around."- 607 replies

"Wow! You're thick. I think you didn't understand a single thing of what I said. Since you disagree with my statement, are you saying that we should hand killer automatons to every person on the street? Also, books have little to do with power. There are plenty of clueless people in positions of power who are only there due to family ties or something of the like. Similarly, there are plenty of educated people in the hovels who can't make ends meet, but I guess you wouldn't know about that either." Working with this woman will be tedious. Why are we allowing them along exactly? I wonder.- 607 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I would hardly say so," I state grimly, overhearing Grimwald. "It is downright frightening in truth. If necromancers can unleash undead upon the world without it sapping their power of ether, it could be well-nigh terrible for the world. In the past, the expense of tonics and other ether-boosting consumables put a check on the power of necromancers, but if they no longer need ether to control their corpses or to keep them alive then they can summon as many as they like, presuming the corpses are available, and unleash them on the world. Even if the undead are not malicious if such a quantity live and they eat and drink like any one of us, it could throw off the balance of the world entirely, causing famines and who knows what else."- 607 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"From what I've noticed with some of the cases I've seen recently, it's possible that if the necromancer is powerful enough, he can raise the undead to do his bidding, and then somehow leave them so their own devices when they are no more immediate use. That way they no longer drain his, or her I suppose, power. It's the strangest things I've seen and I don't know how it works from there, but that is my theory anyway and it does seem to match the facts well enough. However, Avery's case does put that to the sword just now, but perhaps it's possible that such a body that wanders aimlessly and uncontrolled in that manner can be used by another necromancer? But then, do I really think there are necromancers among the ranks of the red assassins? I do doubt it, honestly. It would some seem to clash with their pride I would think.Bah! It's all so convoluted these days."- 607 replies

Actually, only 99% correct since there's always the chance that there's a super secret passive special that *slows* all heroes. By the way, KotZ, Warlen is "Hastened" not "Encouraged".

Multiplied by their level? I would switch back to Paladin if I were to get a shield like that.

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Good thinking. Surely no one would build a hideout of a kind with only one entrance. I just hope we don't need to find ourselves going through a sewer or something again." Spying Grimwald not talking to anyone, I lean over to him and whisper, "I don't like the look of our new companions. They could spell trouble for all we know. Still they may provide a balance to the trouble that others in our team might cause..." I cast a glance Marcellus' way. "We need to keep an eye out on that assassin as well. As an undead, there has to be some necromancer still in control of her actions or she's the strangest case I've seen. Necromancers and paladins do not normally work together well so it strange that they hired her along here. Let's hope she doesn't have some mission of her own like everyone else seems to."- 607 replies

Taking a Smelling Salts hastens Warlen, so he does get another action.

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I'm quite sure you said racing towards fate. Fate is never really a good thing. As far as people having houses is concerned, I don't think there's any way that you can say that for a fact, but I think that's more or less irrelevant. Improving houses is, obviously, a good thing, creating a world where soulless beings can fight and kill sentient ones, less so. Giving power to many just leads to confusion and a lack of progressiveness from what I've seen. Keeping power, such as can be created from machines these days, in the hands of just a few is a menace to society at large. "I would suggest you be wary of that fellow. Anyone able to create those things who is willing to take a bribe or two can spell a lot of trouble. I've already rescued Eubric from some crazy scientist who's experiments went wrong and ended up creating multitudes of shadowy beings who intended to destroy Eubric. He couldn't even control the machine that was sending forth these shadows and we had to destroy it ourselves, fighting our way through the shadowy beings. There was also a crazy alchemist years back who created a sword that could hold sway of animals and humans alike. After nearly getting killed, we managed to relieve him of the sword. We then helped him to see the error of his ways so he destroyed the sword. But those were two close calls. There are some things that are just better left untouched."- 607 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Yeah, if they are enemies, it's better to keep them within eye shot and close enough to stab 'em quick. No offense...but just in case. By the way, I think your logic is entirely flawed. I don't know if anyone is in a hurry to meet their fate here. Bringing about the fate of the world and its people is not exactly my idea of a good time or a worthwhile goal, but...whatever. And about the...what was it called?... 'Kobold'. From what I've seen, they all look well-night identical. So I guess you could say this one is a 'looker' if looking exactly like everyone else is fashionable in his society...if there is such a thing as that."- 607 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #127: A Light in the Darkness
Palathadric replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Are you sure? He sure looks like Watsap, the Marketplace Thief. Just without a hat. How can we be sure he didn't escape prison and use another name to conceal his identity? When was it that you met him anyway?" When Nerwen mentions that Gocklo is witch-hunting, I grin. "Well that figures. I should like to see the two of them fight it out at the end of the quest, but we've got to enter this wretched place first."- 607 replies

I'm just praying Sandy doesn't stroll by this thread too often. Although I have only been on two Shadeaux quests thus far.
