    I believe we are supposed to see some other VIDIYO elements in BAM. I think folks not familiar with PR might be a little confused here. The point of giving Brickset an interview was so the designer could provide explanation. The interview is released the moment the set is revealed to mitigate backlash. This PR approach is a common and by no means unique to TLG. The designer gives you detail in some cases without being asked. I believe the designer addresses all the big questions fans had. The interview asks the right questions in a nice way and a few the designer preemptively addresses. For example the interviewer didn't have to ask about size of the set because the designer previously addresses the budget constraints. Reading an interview can be like dating. Questions and answers are not always direct which can of course lead to different interpretations. The more experience you have the better you become at reading the tea leaves. The Foosball table interview is much more blunt than this one for folks looking for a recent comparison. I also recommend the roller coaster video interview where Jamie addresses the state of trains. He couldn't be more clear but his answers are in PR speak. That interview is a perfect learning tool because it was done several years ago so you get to see Jamie tell you in PR speak exactly where trains are going years before it happens. I hope this helps folks because TLG has been doing a lot more of these and we should expect that to continue.

    You are welcome to have an alternate interpretation. Different viewpoints are a good thing. However for folks looking for an explanation and wondering if the modular series has changed course I believe the designer has given you some clear answers. I strongly recommend reading the entire interview where Anderson also touches on removing some storytelling from the build because it was to "risqué" and the future of the line.

    You are welcome to your opinion as are others. However I don't think it is right for you to attack others for pointing out this "damage control" interview. TLG has done several of these lately including on the Foosball table. This like saying The NY Times piece with Sam a few weeks ago wasn't "damage control". It's fairly insulting.

Highlights: Set was rushed after something went wrong with the original 2023 modular TLG slashed the budget after being unhappy with costs on BH He was forced to change the color to dark red

    (I only go back as far as the Diner) I mostly agree with your sentiment that reaction is always mixed but I feel the Diner was the only set where it was really bad. And while the Diner didn't deserve the criticism it was understandable given how hard Mike leaned into the Art Deco look (best modular ever). The flaws in the four after that remain and I haven't heard them downplayed. The bookstores interior is still a joke(1 book?!) and the front is still great. The Corner Garage 1st floor should still be tiled and the upstairs lacks the joy of the previous several sets. Rebrickable is full of Mocs for fixing the Hotel. The Police station has a bunch of great stuff but didn't achieve it's potential because of cost cutting (seriously no helipad, police car and one jail cell!?). Btw I laughed when you said the Town Hall is a Big Box of Air because that's the perfect description! Everyone who complains about the Brick Bank being too short is 100% correct! I saw one in person with an additional floor and it's such a big improvement that you can't unsee it.

    Agreed. Lego has photoshopped the hell out of some of the boxes lately. The new Hogwarts Express appears dark red on the box for example.

    I feel the déclassé single mold chairs in a jazz setting is something that would never appear in a moc. It's cringy. No one would try and pass this off as a real set. As you said the modulars highlight new and complex building styles so deviating so far from that is not believable. It's so bad it must be real.

    I just saw the new pics and WTF! A couple of chairs seated around a singer and two musicians. It looks like a group Bible study, not a club. How did this even happen?!

    Someone has. There was a comment of the reason why LEGO has waited so long is because they’re embarrassed by it. Very well could’ve been a joke, but still. Designers aren’t safe when people don’t like a set, so it’s hard to tell. If this set is real then this is definitely a controlled leak by TLG. It's marketing 101. Leak the most favorable image possible of a product you know isn't going to be received well, bury the leak on a Sunday, as close to launch as you can. This set looks far better next to the other modulars in the photo than released by itself or next other sets. That doesn't mean TLG is "embarrassed", it just means marketing understands they need to do damage control.

    If it's real then there is a story here. The picture is bit blurry but from what I can tell the structure is nearly 100% old molds and the few modern parts are exclusively decorative. It's almost as if this building was designed 10 years ago, dusted off, and a few modern parts were added on top of the old build.

    After looking at it for several hours it's full of techniques and parts from 10 years ago which makes you think it must be a Moc. But there are recolors of some parts.

    Yes. The photo simultaneously looks official because of the attention to detail on the minifig placement but almost everything else looks like a reviewers photo.

    I think we all realize at this point that the last several modulars were the result of TLG slashing the set budget and not laziness on the designers part. Those sets all had a vision that clearly had a hacksaw taken to them.

    It's funny you mentioned Town Plan because this set is a mix of Town Plan+Fire Brigade/Ghostbusters Firehouse which was immediately why I thought this must be a Moc. There is also no brickwork and exterior railing which are hallmarks of New Orleans. This is closer to what I would expect from the subject matter:

    Damn. That probably settles it. I don't understand how this idea was chosen and how this is the "best" version of said idea. Dumbfounded.

    I think it's difficult for many folks to "like" this set based on previous modulars, recent Bricklink designer sets and Lego Ideas submissions.     Based on the photos alone it feels like a big miss. I think we have to go all the way back to pre-Palace Cinema for anything that looks this uninspired. I'm hoping this is just a Moc.

    The convention doesn't open for about another two hours. After the doors open it's a waiting game to see if an attendee posts photos [assuming set(s) are there]. Hopefully one of the Lego sites has a rep on hand but historically they don't attend these shows.

    The poster is a Jazz poster. Jazz was invented in the United States. The date is written appropriately for the subject if hinting at a December 10th reveal. TLG has provided Solid Brix Studios with more advanced sets than possible any other media outlet this year. His instagram hints at a new set reveal tomorrow. Could it be a non-modular set? Sure. But Lego announced the last pre-covid modular at the exact event that's happening in a few hours. Maybe it's a coincidence.
