Does anyone know if this set is available for VIPs on August 1st in the U.S.? Because the website says September 1st, but the rest of the Internet says August 1st. Is it a region thing? I would really like to know!

@stevenhalim Your friction problems may be due to slight variations in parts from the factory. That's what has happened to me, as my Sian doesn't work well in a certain gear, and I've ruled everything, I mean everything, out. It's truly tragic, this problem can especially show in complex gearboxes.

Excellent job jb70 and Didumos for the pimp up progress so far! How is it in real life? Is there less friction? Also these challenging mods would be interesting to see: Rear steering Functional brakes Suspension adjustment Caster angle on the front

I don't like to use non-Lego things with Lego. I'm a bit of a purist, except I'm ok with illegal techniques.

@allanp Thanks once again for explaining this! I guess I've just been unlucky with production quality. And now that most of my Technic parts are very used through years of play, I won't be able to expect much. Why doesn't Lego make such practical gearboxes like the one you've shown above? Are the parts too large?

Here's a quick and crappy video of mine, demonstrating the friction in the Sian's gearbox. This only happens with 7th gear; it only works in one direction without grinding/stopping. (I've built it twice with no success).

It's very similar to the 5-speed + reverse @allanpshared a pic of, but with a high/low selector. (This was from someone's moc). There's also my Sian problem at the end. Also, please ease excuse my baby hands and my @ing, I am relatively new to Eurobricks

@Didumos69 Thanks! I was following your Rugged Supercar project for years, but I never have had enough dog hone pieces (I don't wish to take apart my Sian). sill still don't have enough for your gearbox Could I also post a video of the problem I'm having?

Yeah, it's pretty bad. On 7th gear pushing backwards, the engine can't even move. And I made sure everything had space. I guess I'll just have to accept that any Lego transmission will not work in high gears unless it's designed properly?? Do you know any gearboxes that actually work smoothly on all gears? I would like to experience it lmao.

@allanp Thank you for your extensive response! Yeah, it's too bad that Lego gear parts aren't designed very optimally. The gearbox in your image is actually almost the exact same one I just built recently (Sheepo's Manual Jeep Rubicon), and was having the "only works in one direction problem," except there was a 8t gear with the two 24t, and had a high/low selector. I also wonder why many Technic fans don't complain about the "good" transmissions in many mocs grinding then. (The Pimp Up my Land Rover mod didn't work for me and Sariel and Racing Brick didn't complain about too much friction in the Sian's drivetrain.) Maybe they didn't test push the car enough? And maybe it was because I used some used parts for the Rover mod. The biggest question I still have though, is why these big gearboxes I've built only work in one direction, but not the other. Because the highest speeds work perfectly for me pushing it one direction, but not the other. (Keep in mind this has only happened to me with transmissions 4 speeds or more).

Thank you @Didumos69 for the explanation! While I understand how gearboxes work, I have a problem that I've been trying to figure out for so long, and haven't found anything on the Internet about it. Most gear boxes I've built, whether new, used or mocs, (Porsche, Land Rover, Lambo, other's mocs, etc.), have had extreme friction problems with higher speeds, in ONLY ONE direction. The friction ends up being so bad, that the whole drivetrain binds up and barely moves. For example, my Lambo works fine, except for pushing it backwards in 7th gear. And ONLY while pushing these in one direction does this happen. It can't be a bracing problem, as the Lambo and some of the other's mocs braced their gearboxes well enough, and it still happened. This has happened to me way too many times with Technic transmissions and I want to figure it out. Keep in mind that with all these, I've built them twice, gave gears space, and swapped parts (Like the new and old bevel gears), AND even new parts - like the Lambo's - wouldn't make a difference. Now, upon observing these problems, I've watered everything down to the 24t gear with the 8t gear. As soon as this combination is added, whether a sinple 4-speed or 8-speed, the gearboxes suffer in one direction. It's a very weird phenomenon and I thought you - being somewhat of an expert at Lego Technic - could help me figure out this issue.

Does anyone know why in some sets and mocs, the drivetrain has way more friction in one direction than the other? This has been a long problem of mine and I haven't been able to solve it. (Land Rover, Porsche, the Lambo, mocs, etc.)

My issue isn't with the transmission anymore, it's with the shifting mechanism. I built everything correctly, but it's working terribly and I don't know why. It worked perfectly for the first 20min.

So the set came the other day and I finally got to build it! Upon finishing it, I tested all the functions and all functions worked fine except for 7th gear in drive. There was so much friction the car couldn't move. (Could have been due to me tinkering with the gears throughout the build). So I tried messing with the gears a bit, but had no success. I checked everything, and everything was assembled correctly. (The shifter was starting to get bad at this time also). I eventually took the whole thing apart and built it carefully again. After this, all speeds worked with minimal friction, but the shifter wasn't working correctly. It was jamming and not working properly 95% of the time. I checked everything again; I built everything correctly and I gave things space to move. Can anyone help me figure out the problem? Surely the rubber bands shouldn't be losing their quality this fast. Maybe it's bad quality parts???

If you look, you can see the break is to a slight angle. The image itself is straight, so maybe we will have complex angles on the axel? One can only hope!
