Many of the winter village buildings remind me of Frankenmuth, Michigan, USA. Home of Bronners Christmas Wonderland, a Christmas store open 364 days a year, Frankenmuth was settled by German Immigrants and has a Bavarian feel. They hold an Oktoberfest every year, as well as a SnowFest, and visiting that with my family a few years ago inspired this build. The winter fesitval is held in the town square, outside the cheese haus. We find a welcome entrance, snow-built sleigh sculpture, a hot chocolate seller, two snow/ice seats, and an ice sculpture of a castle. The inside of the cheese haus has a shop downstairs and a living area upstairs. The cheese store has a refrigerated case of cheese wedges (even blue cheese!), a wheel of white cheddar on the counter, and another cheese case. Here's a link to my brickshelf folder: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=520907 Thanks for reading!

Very nice! I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with that! I still line my LEGO sets up around the room so I have access to all of them like I did when I was a kid. :)

Help with identifying parts/sets!

Gandalf Arrives-- my first LOTR/Hobbit LEGO. I read the Hobbit this year, went to see the movie, and even watched the 3 LOTR movies. I have to say that LEGO got me into it because I really wasn't too interested before I saw the sets.

I've noticed that the LEGO sets at Amazon are varied in price. The Friends Riding Camp, for example, has never been retail price, and it was released this summer. Many of the LOTR/Hobbit sets are above as well. Fire Brigade has been at $119 lately, though!

Looks great! I think I like it as much as the real one-- if not more!
-
These are great! They look just like the game. "Lemonade Stall 1 is a great value!"

Looks like I won't need to shell out much for LEGO in 2013... none of these sets interest me. I do like the painting in the museum set, but nothing else. Looks like I can go back and get the garbage truck and robber's hideout. Friends and City are my main two themes, so good thing I like the Friends sets!

Velmi pekne, is this modeled after a castle in Rakovec? I like the white and the mix of other colors in there as well. The title sounded familiar and I thought I'd better check it out... I've been to Lucenec a few times. :)

Thanks, everyone! I couldn't decide if it was a mod or a moc! But I figured since it's a creator house originally and that one has three different house versions, mine could just be another house version and therefore a mod. :) That one came with Hillside House... one of the few things I left together. That, and I built the hot tub/pool from directions as well.

After being in Pennsylvania this summer and seeing houses perched seemingly precariously on the sides of hills and houses nestled into hills, I decided to build a REAL hillside house. I used pieces from 5771 plus some extra pieces (roof, green 2xs, and a few white blocks) from my collection for this mod. From the street view, it looks like a small cottage. (still can't get that gable roof right, though... was going to play around with it more but forgot) The back has a garden, balcony, and parking spot. 5771 comes with lots of windows! Now I can take it apart and use the pieces to build something else! I'm using LEGO in my composition class on Friday, so I need all the spare 1x bricks I can get!

Thanks for the review! I don't like the way that dormer sits... just looks awkward. May have to see if I can mod that with white wedge plates or something similar.

I'm hoping to go if I can get my schedule rearranged! I didn't realize it was tomorrow until you posted this. If I do, I'll be there right at 10am on Saturday.

LEGO skirts and dresses
slovakiasteph replied to badboytje88's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Here are a few women I made for a Victorian modular MOC. I played with the "fancy scarf" idea for the woman on the left even though it's an outdoor torso. They all mostly have plain slope dresses. The lady in red is the grumpy cook and I thought the dwarf torso worked well. I couldn't find a torso that worked well for the maid, so just went with the apron slope. -
This building doesn't look that much bigger than the others to me... seems about on par with the other sets. The blue cottage is okay, I guess, but I'm not a fan of the depth of the snow on the roof. Also, why do we need so many minifigs? I'd be fine with 4-5, especially if it kept the cost down. I love the igloo! ETA: I'm also happy that this is a HOUSE and not a business!

I didn't like the original Big Ben much, but I definitely like this version! Will consider it if I ever get the set.

I like this a lot and it looks just like a parking garage! The colors all work together well.

Which Hobbit set are you most looking forward to?
slovakiasteph replied to Ferrik's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Bag End... I'm not a LOTR fan, and this is probably the only Hobbit set I'll buy. I also plan to get Gandalf's Return. -
City Corner is one of my favorite city sets, and even though I thought I ran out of bricks the other day, I figured I'd try this one. Thankfully, I had quite a few white and red panels to use. I ran out of red bricks for the chimneys, but I can always add those later. Actually, I ran out of bricks several times during this project. The pizzeria is on the ground floor. I need to rig up some sort of sign to let people know because otherwise, the only signage is on the second floor. It's very informal, with two tables, a counter, the workspace, and the pizza oven in the back under the stairs. No, I don't even have a 1x2 grey tile that's not being used. I don't like salvaging off other projects because then they look incomplete. Second floor: apartment. The family who owns the pizzeria is having a discussion. They've sent their son upstairs to play. Third floor: bedrooms and hall. Son is on the back balcony swordfighting with his imaginary friend (there's not much room for that sort of thing in his bedroom!). You can see that my bricks are getting so low that I had to use trans yellow ones in the back. Attack! View of the back and side: And, with a few of my other modulars: They all have the same type of rooflines. The guy wiped out on his bike to avoid the unexpected mailbox in the middle of the sidewalk. That's why you should ride in the road. Not one of my most inspired builds, but it was fun! I've had a few weeks off from teaching, which is why I've been building so much. Back to the grind!

What you call the pilot's torso I thought to be a leather winter coat with a collar... I thought it worked well in that setting. I do agree, though, that the minifigs are on the boring side.

Inspired by Carbohydrates' Spite House, I decided to build an 8-wide house of my own. I was intrigued because I'd never heard of spite houses before and even commented on them on facebook: one of my friends said " I drove by that all the time when I lived in Alexandria!!! IT FREAKED ME OUT! My car is wider than that house!" So as a riff on that I built this house (plus, blue bricks were the only bricks I had multiples of), but it soon took on a more modern flair style and I decided to leave its original intentions behind. (I need to fix the top balcony... I forgot it was supposed to be connected to the middle floor and not the top one) The first floor holds the living and kitchen areas. This is where things got tight. I decided to build a bench/sofa that can also be used as a seat for the table on the right when dinner comes around. My link I originally had a staircase like the one on the second floor but changed to the clear windows because it opened up the room more. The kitchen is tucked away under the stairs. Back door too, but I haven't decided what to do with the very small backyard space. Second floor: bathroom and hallway. One of my goals when I build a LEGO house is to create something in which I'd want to live, and although I think this house would make me claustrophobic, I do like the style! Third floor: bedroom with a skylight. Yes, I'm running out of bricks. Before I build anything else, I'll have to demolish one of my old buildings (and I've already taken down my Greek Revival modular). That's why the upstairs has such a colorful "paint job." I need to figure out something to build in the extra green space next to the house... any ideas? I would do a pocket park, but my town already has a park (although private). Both of my 8x32 baseplates are in use elsewhere in my modular town. Thanks for looking!

Modular Madness: Tea house and bride's dress boutique
slovakiasteph replied to Redhead1982's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, very nice! I looked through your pics on MOCpages too. I like the striped wall of the bridal shop, the red roof (I really want to build one like it!), the balconies, and the tea shop idea (I too drink black flavored tea)! -
This garden room is a lovely addition to any home. It provides both indoor and outdoor spaces. Inside, we have a planter, two comfortable chairs, and a table, with several smaller floral decorations throughout the room. Mia likes to hang out here when it's raining or cold outside. Outside, there's a bench where Mia can relax, table, pine tree, flower garden, and bird house. Thanks for visiting!

That would have been a "brick brick home." I'm American but have Slovak roots (and Polish and Carpatho-Rusyn). All of my ancestors came from the same 200-mile area of Poland and Austria-Hungary/Czechoslovakia/Slovak Republic... most around the turn of the century.
