From my experience with the 2018 Hogwarts, yes. I waited to get it until they (finally) announced when the microscale DA gwp would be available, so I didn’t get it until November. There were all sorts of problems with preorder waiting lists filling up and stores selling out when it was first released, but by the time I got it I didn’t have any trouble.
-
I think the reason nobody’s considering that is because it’s way too early for anything from a 2021 2HY set to leak. Next year’s summer sets are probably only in the very first stages of the design process, so the minifigures for them wouldn’t even be decided on yet, never mind be in production.
-
While it does make the most sense that a gwp featuring the 1st movie Harry would be tied directly to the Diagon Alley set, I literally cannot fathom how they’d have kept said gwp set from leaking by now if that were the case. The Lego stores theoretically should have gotten the cases of GWPs in at the same time as the D2Cs, and since the DA box seems to have leaked from the back room of a store, I would have expected any hitherto unknown gwp linked to it to leak around the same time. But so far the only indication that there’s something else out there is the leaked Harry minifigure. Seriously, have we ever not known about an exclusive gwp this close to the release?
-
Sure, but that’s very dependent on which country you’re in. I’ve never seen most D2Cs available anywhere else where I am in the US, and they tend to call certain sets ‘exclusive’ for a reason.

D2C stands for Direct to Consumer
-
Yeah, I think if the first year muggle clothes Harry came in a gwp specifically linked to the D2C we’d have seen leaks of the actual set he’s part of by now. More likely he’s coming in something a couple months in the future.
-
I seem to recall the actual GWP set box leaked several weeks ahead of time. Wasn’t there actually a thing where a couple of stores accidentally sold the sets/had them taken by employees quite a while before the promotional period, and because we didn’t know when the real gwp period was going to be there were actually people on eBay selling them at a massive markup?
-
That sounds right. November 2018 was definitely when I bought the Hogwarts D2C, and I specifically waited until they finally announced the Diagon Alley GWP to get it.
-
It’s possible that will be another gwp at a later date. Or it’s a DA specific gwp and doesn’t show up on the calendar because Diagon Alley isn’t on there either (although if that were the case I’d expect it to have leaked around the same time the first pics of the box did).

Just checked the (American) website and the September calendar has been put up, with the Brickheadz and polybag being GWPs for purchases of Harry Potter Lego $100 and $40 respectively. Both are available from the 1st through 15th. https://www.lego.com//cdn/cs/stores/assets/bltcc931d1fe0499870/09_September_Calendar_-_1.pdf?format=pjpg

Yeah, I remember trying to get the Ideas Saturn V for my dad when it first came out. They were getting about five copies in at a time, and they’d all sell out within the first minute of opening. I have zero faith that my local store will be able to meet the demand for the first few weeks at least.
-
No. The tan owl is from a City firefighter set - nice that they’re reusing it here though. And stores only getting four copies of the set on release day? Yikes. Glad I’d already decided to wait a couple months at least like I did for the microscale Hogwarts. I don’t fancy having that fight.

Luna in the RoR set should have mid legs because she's a 4th year, and Neville in the CMF series 1 has mid legs but should have short legs (if it's based on the second film). Technically there’s also Cho and Luna in the CMF series 1. Cho is either a 5th or 6th year and Luna’s appearance is based off her 5th year, so both should have regular legs - although I’ll give Lego a pass on the legs in the first CMF, since they were clearly just trying to give us as many of the new medium legs as possible.
-
I mean, if they leave it any longer they run the risk of regular fans and consumers not even knowing about it before it comes out. It was leaked because some Lego store employee found it in the back room and took pictures. And if there’re already sets in back rooms then the September 1st release date is almost certainly accurate, so the have to announce it before then.
-
And to add on to the difficulty of finding a display place for it - you need to have enough room left over for the inevitable Gringotts set at the end.

I’m pretty sure Bellatrix’s hair is the same (or very similar) kind of plastic as the broomstick piece. It’s definitely not bendy like the actual rubber hairpieces, but it does have a tiny bit of give to it and it doesn’t have the same shine as hard plastic (in the case of the broom I’m pretty sure it’s a safety issue, but with the Bellatrix hair I’m pretty sure they do it like that just because demolding a piece that complex made of the regular hard plastic would be a nightmare.)
-
Awesome luck! Since you’ve got your hands on Myrtle could you answer a question for me? Is her hairpiece the squishy rubber material (like Cho’s from series one) or the stiffer soft plastic that you can still feel the distinct shape of through the bag (like the broomstick or Bellatrix’s hair)?

If they do an anniversary minifigure next year like they did with Star Wars it better have a star spangled cape. Those were one of the most iconic parts of the original sets
-
Lol. Same. I’m not going to worry about what I think of the minifigure quality until I can see them clear enough to do more than just identify which characters they are. Yeah, the spiderweb definitely gave me nostalgia vibes too, and there’s also a rat in one of the attics. Plus the most owls we’ve gotten in a single set since the theme reboot. All you need to complete the 2001-2004 Harry Potter Lego feels is some fluorescent spiders

I mean, it’s almost impossible to say for sure until we get proper high res pics of the figs, but aren’t those black cloaks exactly what they’re wearing in the set? The black cloaks are part of their school kits and have their house crests on them after all. I’m not willing to say they aren’t wearing screen accurate outfits until we get a high resolution look at the front and back of those torsos.

I wouldn’t put it past Lego to give us a teaser on Friday and let us stew over the weekend

It was a regular gwp in November as opposed to coming out in connection with the Hogwarts D2C. Personally, I hope if it does come out alongside the DA set that getting it is just a matter of spending above a certain point, or at least just above a certain point on Harry Potter sets. Diagon Alley is going to sell out fast, so it doesn’t seem fair to put that strict a limit on who can get the gwp (I mean, it’s one thing when the gwp is something small and more collectors focused like a keychain or embroidered patch, but when it’s an actual mini set that plenty of kids would want? Not cool.)
-
Oooo... what to do, what to do? Get the sets as soon as they’re available or wait a week so I can pick up the advent calendar (and maybe some CMFs) at the same time? :)
-
The CMF is up on the US shop@home, but just the individual bags, no listing for a full box. Does anyone remember if the DC series had the full box listing from the start or if it came later?
-
The unaccounted for torso is from the first movie, not the second, so it definitely has nothing to do with Knockturn Alley.
