  1. Okay, but isn’t the whole premise that dinos have become ‘open-source’ and loads of people have been doing crazy things to the DNA to make crazy designer dinosaurs with new traits and abilities? What I’m saying is that with a name like Pyroraptor that thing better breath fire in the movie. I will be extremely disappointed if this movie tries to convince me that the nerds of the world aren’t going to try to make their own dragons ASAP.
  2. I personally doubt the Ministry is a contender for the D2C. The entire thing is underground, which means no proper exterior, which isn’t very good for an 18+ display piece. Not to mention that the Ministry just isn’t quite iconic enough for Lego to be confident enough to put the highest Harry Potter price tag ever on it. I think the Ministry would work much better as a series of vignettes or even quote set dioramas (“You’re lying Delores. And one mustn’t tell lies”) My money would be on the D2C being either Gringotts (just because they have to know we’re all foaming at the mouth for it now, although personally I’d rather it came as it’s own $120-$200 set than getting another large Diagon Alley section), or a motorized Hogwarts Express with multiple carriages, a complete Hogsmeade Station, thestral drawn carriages, and the Hogwarts grounds gates with their winged boars. I wouldn’t completely discount the possibility of another sculptural set (the most likely candidate being Dobby) but I agree that it would be unfavorably in competition with the Hogwarts Icons set, so it does seem less likely.
  3. I’ve already expressed how much I’d love a Whomping Willow remake here, and I think at this point I think the Shrieking Shack is about as guaranteed as the Fluffy encounter and Chamber of Secrets were last year. The thing is, I don’t think Lego would put werewolf Lupin in a Shack set the same way they did with the first version. Besides the obvious screen accuracy issues, I expect both less than a full Minifigure from Lego’s new version of the werewolf, which obviously takes up a lot more budget than the generic wolf head cover they added the Shack back in 2004, and given that there are already 7 human characters that appear in that scene I highly doubt the new version will be able to squeeze in a werewolf when Lupin doesn’t transform until they get back to the Hogwarts grounds. Now, a PoA Willow remake, that would be a good place for a werewolf. And another possibility - I’ve seen a bunch of people pointing out the the piece count of the upcoming $20 set indicates a large animal and speculating that it’s Buckbeak, but I’ve only seen people mentioning the CoMC class and not the Buckbeak v. Werewolf Lupin fight right before the movie’s climax. It might be a film only scene, but it ticks off a lot of things that would make it very appealing for Lego: it takes place in the forbidden forest (and we went a whole year without a Harry Potter tree build, so we’re overdue), it’s an action packed scene with a decent amount of play value but nobody dies, two of the three required minifigs already exist from the Hospital Wing, it gives them a new set to make Buckbeak available in (which will be an automatic draw to anyone who didn’t get Hagrid’s Hut), and if the Expecto Patronum set from 2019 managed a new stag mold and the prints+recolors for a new Sirius then I think a new screen accurate werewolf is definitely within budget (which will draw in anyone who already has Buckbeak). I can really see Lego doing it, with the actual build being a tree or two filled with bats. Gosh I hope we get news soon, I’m clearly going stir crazy.
  4. Nothing but speculation/low-key wishlisting here. We’ve had no indication that there’s going to be a quote set for the Harry Potter theme, and the only thing even suggests a possibility of it is the fact that Lego has broken away from only doing that format for the Star Wars theme and done a Jurassic Park one.
  5. Fingers crossed that means Harry Potter is next! (Because the alternative is that Harry Potter is last )
  6. Yeah, but the goat gets eaten right before the attack - hence the whole ominous “where’s the goat”*dismembered goat leg falls onto the roof of the jeep* bit. I suppose it’s a moot point if the set is more diorama than playset style though.
  7. I mean, Diagon Alley came with a printed quote piece, so that’s kinda most of the way there. But I’m not sure any of the sets we know about are set up for that price/piece count wise. It would be nice to get some small adult oriented sets instead of just the big D2Cs - I think Harry Potter also has the fanbase for those to sell (Unfortunately, now all I think is that there’s a particular Molly Weasley DH quote that everybody loves but that’s never gonna happen)
  8. I mean, I’ll agree that we’re not likely to ever get a set of a cursed vault or that dragon fight from the legacy trailer, and maybe the Star Wars video games are more significant to their fandom - I wouldn’t know. But I think we can all agree that no matter how intrinsic the video games are to the Star Wars franchise, they’ll never outweigh how important the actual books are to the Harry Potter/Wizarding World franchise. And the books are clearly influential to the Lego designers. At this point we’ve gotten multiple background characters and even one who only appeared in deleted scenes, just because they have slightly more important roles in the original text. They even pulled a name from the books for the Slytherin beater despite the fact that he wasn’t given one in the movie. Under those circumstances, it wouldn’t shock me if the designers took any opportunity the could get to give us popular minor characters that actually played significant roles in multiple books (like Charlie, Binns, and even Peeves), and the video games give them that.
  9. There’s a difference between a character that’s be consigned to the background of a movie scene (like Fortescue and Sinestra) and a character that’s been cut from the movies entirely though. The Hogwarts Mystery version of Charlie wears his hair in a short ponytail, so he’d be as noticeably different as any of the other Weasley brothers. And while I think there’s a good chance of getting Bill when/if we get DH sets, Charlie never actually appeared in the movies, so our best bet of seeing him might be Hogwarts Mystery sets.
  10. I mean, as someone who really isn’t in the Star Wars fandom I’m only vaguely aware that Fallen Order exists, so we should keep in mind that hype and fanbase can be hard to gauge if you’re not a social media expert with a fancy algorithm in front of them. Also, I specifically mentioned Hogwarts Mystery because, unlike the upcoming Legacy game, it actually features several characters that appeared in the books but not the movies, meaning that it would be pretty easy for Lego to make Hogwarts Mystery sets that would be able to appeal to a large portion of Harry Potter fans even if they didn’t play the mobile game. For instance, a Moments style set for History of Magic with Professor Binns, Charlie Weasley, and young Tonks would make a lot of fans happy to have a chance to complete the Weasley family, and History of Magic and Binns feature enough in the books that the only Harry Potter fans who would be confused about him would be the ones who had exclusively watch the movies and not consumed any other content. Another thing to keep in mind - so far as I know, Camp Cretaceous (the Netflix cartoon) has never had a massive amount of hype about it either, but Lego still put the six main characters in Jurassic World sets last year.
  11. So I’m seeing a lot of people getting excited over the announcement of Jedi Fallen Order sets because the age rating of the source material would support the idea that we will get DH sets eventually, but I’m not seeing anyone mention the other significant development. Jedi Fallen Order is a video game. Which begs the question of if we might eventually see sets of the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy game or (please please please) Hogwarts Mystery. Personally, I really hope this is an avenue that could lead to Hogwarts Mystery content, since there are quite a few characters from the books that didn’t make the cut in the movies but have ‘canon’ appearances in Hogwarts Mystery.
  12. Yeah, I’m definitely keeping my eye on the dragon beatbox over the next few months. 20 bucks is way too much for something like that, but we’ll see how low it gets when they inevitably go on clearance. Putting at least some of the minifigs from the canceled vidiyo sets in an upcoming cmf didn’t even occur to me, but it would definitely make sense, especially if they used new molds or the creators particularly liked the design. Calling back to the idea of Halloween related characters, wasn’t one of the canceled sets supposed to be a vampire castle?
  13. I’m not into spooky stuff normally, but I did pick up a Mummy Queen because her alternate face is a more realistic golden burial mask and I really loved it. Honestly, so long as we got a proper selection of monsters like series 14 and not a bunch of costumes like series 18. I mean, the rabbit head mold does exist thanks to Vidiyo. Now that that doomed-from-the-start theme is finally defunct I wonder if they’ll start using some of those molds elsewhere. If nothing else I’m expecting the new mermaid tail to turn up somewhere else soon, and that swooshing hair mold seems to good not to make use of elsewhere.
  14. It’s not that Lego can’t do DH sets, it’s that those last four movies (yes, I’m including OotP and HBP) are harder to market to that 7-9+ age range that the standard play sets are rated for - or more accurately, the parents of those 7-9 year olds. That’s why we only got two sets each for OotP and HBP in 2020, and why none of the featured the prominent death scenes from those movies. From what I know, Lego hadn’t planned for more than 3 years in the rebooted theme, so when that 4th year came along and was also the 20th anniversary they just rolled with it regardless of the fans preconceived notion that it was ‘supposed to be’ time for DH. Personally, I’m near certain we’ll eventually get DH sets, just not a full wave of them, because Lego will want to balance them out with so ‘friendlier’ sets like they did for OotP and HBP two years ago. Either that or they’ll just start dropping a random DH or two set every year or so (except not this year, because WB probably wants them to do something Fantastic Beasts related and that’s a similar kind of risky).
  15. I think you might want to rewatch PoA - because there might be a scary executioner, but they spend a good chunk of the movie explaining very thoroughly how the hippogriff didn’t die I do sympathize with wanting to get a unicorn in some way, though I think we’re out of luck with the Harry Potter theme (maybe the Fantastic Beasts franchise will throw us a bone one day?). But Fang and Norbert(a) are definitely the big draws to a Hagrid’s Hut remake - although theoretically a OotP version could still have Fang and also feature thestrals. I think the problem with fully connecting them like Myrtle’s bathroom and the Chamber of Secrets is that the latter just needs a trapdoor entrance and chute, which is pretty easy to manage with the new format, but the passage between the Whomping Willow and Shrieking Shack is an underground tunnel between two fairly distant ground level locations. I don’t think we’re likely to see the actual tunnel constructed out of Lego in a set, but maybe we’ll get the entrances (which, admittedly, the 2004 and 2018 sets both did cover). I would be cool to see sets of both locations done though, if only so Lego could be strategic about which Minifigures they include where.
  16. From what I’ve heard, Lego still isn’t licensed to sell Star Wars characters in a cmf, so that’s why we aren’t seeing that. And there have been Disney and Marvel series that pull together a few characters each from several different movies/shows, just none that focus on only one movie or show - which is probably down to a decision made on Disney’s end of things. I guess they just decided they didn’t want to put all their eggs in one basket? Although I do wonder why, out of all Lego’s licensing partners, Disney is apparently the parent company too scared to take risks. They make more than enough profit that they’d never notice financially if a movie specific Lego blind bag series didn’t make as much as they’d hoped it would.
  17. While I get that we’re getting to the point of getting remakes of subjects that have already been cover since the reboot (and indeed, the Chamber of Secrets and Hospital Wing sets are partial remakes already) I really can’t get behind the idea of Hagrid’s Hut and Quidditch remakes at this time. Hagrid’s Hut is an inevitable remake, but the problem is that Lego seems to be gearing up for a year of sets based on PoA/GoF. And since the set that just retired was PoA based, the only way they could do anything really new with a 2022 Hagrid’s Hut would be to make something based entirely off the books - like Hagrid having a depressive episode in his hit while Grubbly-Plank teaches the students about unicorns outside. I’d much rather they hold off on making it for a bit so they could do something based off PS, OotP, or HBP. As for quidditch, while there is a quidditch scene in PoA that would allow them to do something different, it’s not a scene that would really give us what we want when recreated. I highly doubt that a PoA quidditch set would include many more players than Harry and Cedric, since the dementors and Dumbledore are much more important to that scene than any of their teammates. I can’t think of a single person who wouldn’t rather get a quidditch accessory pack with one player from each house, so they could build entire teams if they want. Now, if Lego is going to do a remake of a post-reboot set do you know what it should be? The Whomping Willow. The 2018 Willow set was mostly focused on the castle section and Ford Anglia, leaving the titular tree rather neglected by comparison. Add on the fact that the flying car had to be able to perch in the branches and the Willow ended up looking positively anemic, and had a tendency to she some of the decorative twig pieces when you made the branches swing around. A PoA themed set that focused solely on the tree would have the opportunity to significantly improve the build and between the two different scenes that happen there in PoA there’s a very promising character lineup (including Padfoot and Lupin’s werewolf form, which are admittedly both high on my personal wishlist). I just think it would be the best option if we’re going to have a remake of a recent set this wave. (there’s also the possibility that the fabled $470 set is a motorized Hogwarts Express, but that’s an entirely different kettle of fish)
  18. Same. Especially since we only got about a week of warning for the modular building tie in taxi cab gwp. If this turns out to be an International Women’s Day promo like the Amelia Earhart tribute was, we could be cutting it very close on whether or not we find out about it before March 1st (when a bunch on new sets drop). Not knowing if I’m going to get the sets I want first day or wait a week until the promo and risk the ones I want being temporarily sold out by then is going to be a bit anxiety inducing. Nonetheless, my mom’s a massive Goodall fan so there’s no way I’m not picking up at least one copy of this set. I figure if there’s no leaks by the last full week of February I’ll contact Lego customer service and ask if there’s going to be another IWD promo like there was last year (with maybe a side comment about how much I hate the fact that they’re not doing store calendars anymore )
  19. I don’t see any Pygmy Puffs in the set pictures. Have any of the reviews mentioned them?
  20. We don’t even have any reliable information on it actually being a thing. It hasn’t been quite as killed dead as the “microscale Hogsmeade” gwp rumors, but I’m personally not to optimistic about it being real.
  21. I know, Fleur’s wedding dress is kind of like the Beauxbatons uniform hats for me. That bit of costuming is such a work of art, and I never considered it very likely we’d ever get either in a set. Hopefully, the Lego designers will also defy my expectations for the wedding dress and give it to us in LEGO form as well. And I could definitely see the wedding tent being a nice medium set (although I personally hoped that the Lovegoods take precedent in the minifigure lineup over Ron and Hermione, since it’s unlikely we’ll get the Rookery and it might be our only chance to get Xenophilius).
  22. For all those with a VIP account - there’s currently a short Harry Potter quiz you can take to earn 150 points on the VIP page. All the questions are pretty easy and (unsurprisingly) related to Diagon Alley.
  23. I’ve been wondering that too. It’s supposed to be on sale in 3 days!
  24. Wow, I never knew that the short legs were only introduced in 2002! That would make the original Gringotts goblins and Dobby some of the first minifigures to use them. And didn’t the original Quirrell have the first double sided head? And when the theme rebooted the cmf introduced medium legs. Harry Potter has had a bunch of fun minifigure milestones.
  25. Lol, nice to see I’m not the only one underwhelmed by the brickheadz theme. I just can’t get into the style (same with Funko Pop!s), so I’ll probably be reselling the gwp Hagrid and Buckbeak I get to someone who’ll actually enjoy it - and if the scarcity and popularity mean people are willing to pay a lot for it
