I’ll post a picture of the car as it is later today but the sidepods are proving to be extremely difficult. If anyone has any ideas for these parts please put them. I’m like totally lost with bodywork (chassis are what I like to build)

I’ve decided what specific car I will do. I’m going to do the 5 of James Hinchcliffe because I have the 42056 and the gold is the closest thing to the overwhelming abundance of orange panels that I have.

Your right, the front wheels are a bit wide but I did the best I could do with the available pieces. The rear wheel width is perfect 1:8 scale so I don't want to change it to make it proportional to the front wheels. So yeah, only bodywork left and it should be done by mid to late April. Also I am glad that I was able to inspire you to start your build again. Can you send me some pictures of what your model's progress is, I'm interested in how different people approach the build of the same car.

It just happened that way and I’m thinking about how to move it backwards without really changing the panels I have arranged around it. There isn’t a gearbox because there simply isn’t enough room to add it along with paddle-shifting. Will try pneumatic jack this weekend.

Thanks @letsbuild. I'm considering trying to add a built-in pneumatic jack just like the real car. What do you guys think?

This doesn’t seem likely but what if we finally get beams longer than 15 studs. It would be nice if they released a 17 or 19 stud beam

Sorry about lack of progress and pictures the last two weeks. Kind of hit a wall and I’m struggling with the body work. I do have the nose done and front suspension as fixed as I can get it.

Yesterday was a good day. Got the chassis pretty close to done so now I can start working on the bodywork and the nosecone (biggest challenge of this build). Wheelbase is about a stud too long and the height is almost perfect but I might lower it by a stud.

I have redesigned the front from the ground up but am still struggling with the bodywork. The steering is really good and the suspension itself is more on the soft side but isn't too bad.I ned a lot of help with the bodywork. Speaking of which I did have a small parts order (mainly pieces I already have but in black) and I bought a light brick to use in the rear of the car. I should have the pieces on friday on this week. I will be working on the model a lot over the next 3 days because i have Monday-Wednesday off from school.

I have run into a bunch of problems with the front end so I am going to start over from scratch on that part. The main problems were the pushrod and spring as well as general bodywork

Small update, I’ve been working on the front end and have the shocks in-laid in the car. I ended up using @RoscoPC‘s front wheel hubs from his Williams FW14B model. I will likely join the front and rear ends tomorrow sometime and work on getting wheelbase, right. I’ll put pictures of that if I get to it.

Here’s a start to the front. I’m might change the white panels but I don’t know yet. The bottom picture is a shock rocker (connects to pushrod and spring) I am considering running in the model

I am from Danville, just west of Indianapolis. I am currently leaving oversees though. Can wait for the IndyCar season to start especially considering that Mike Tirico is hosting the 500

As a side note, majority of the beginning of the build will be black because it helps me think better.

Here is the rear suspesnion. It is designed to work the wheels from the 42056 and the width from outside of the tire to the inside is a about a full stud (half stud on either side) narrower than an exact 1:8 scale. Works good and is easy to add bodywork around.

Thanks. Good to know that it works well with the rotary catches. Were there any time where it would jam up or was it always consistent and working?

Thanks For the encouragement. I am also from Indy so that´s part of the reason I wanted to build this car. It´s funny that you mention the front wing because I just finished a render of a simple yet accurate front wing. It is incomplete but is easy to extend out to the length needed

You’re exactly right and I do have two rotary catches from the Bugatti (I ordered all the transmission pieces from it) so that might help with resistance problems with normal changeovers

I think I can get buy with a modified version of this stepper. If I add the 90 shaft by @Didumos69 than it should work fine. I’ll post a picture later of the modded design.

I’m going to be working on the rear suspension and will post progress on Saturday. Does anyone know a compact paddle-shifter design that I can put behind the steering wheel?

It's a great resource and I have already got all the info from his models (bricksafe, flickr, and his site) I can get without buying the instructions. It's one of those things I am not willing to do. I plan to use the 42000 wheels for the front and the 42056 wheels in the rear.

These are some of the pictures. There are more on my bricksafe file that have all the specific numbers with the scale. The render at the top is the front suspension design I plan to run but I having trouble finding a good wheel hub (2 studs tall, 1 studs thick) and attaches to the wishbone. The long axle is 10 studs while the axle between the two angled connectors is 6 studs.

I browsed it and sadly couldn't find anything of use. I have made a bricksafe account and will start uploading pictures today. Here is the link, https://bricksafe.com/pages/JackBloomer5/
