LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Interesting. That rex is definately standardized enough to be an actual figure, and the fairly low quality addition of a printed kama to a game that's otherwise overflowing with dual molding and the like does really seem to be a serious clue. Speaking of TSS, wasn't there a Venator update that had the BF2 classes of 501st clones? Those might be our designs. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

I really don't understand why they did this. (On the bright side, maybe more people will buy it once it's inevitably 20% off!) The bowser is just better in every way. And same here about not buying those weird digi mario sets, but if I was given the option to get the BP bust or bowser, I'd get bowser easily. If options are back on the table for the $500 set, my guesses are back to Avengers Tower or the 2012 quinjet. Though I'm still holding out a slim hope for the Liberty Parlance. I just saw the NWH re-release last night (with my friends and in costume), and that scene never gets old. I guarantee if released, it'd be the lego death star of marvel. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

Sure, not to the exact same extent, but 2019-2021 all had waves of comic-based sets for spider-man. There were also a couple avengers waves that featured figures based on the game, but vehicles (and minifigures) not based on the games at all. I mean, the current largest marvel set is comic-based. I never said they were at the same time as dc's comic based sets, but it's definately a fair chunk. (also, the lines kinda blur at points. The 2016 and 2017 avengers waves were allegedly based on the show, but look at the sets. The captain america jet, for example, had a total of one minifigure with the show design, and no builds) I'm still not sure about that movie, but it definately could make some nice sets. -

I agree with your wider point, but the anecdote isn't necessarily true. Lego didn't produce fantastic 4 and x-men due to pressure by disney (specifically the CEO at the time IIRC), since disney didn't own those licenses. In addition, marvel regularly had, and still has, a lot of sets that don't tie into specific movies (the mechs, generally speaking, as well as the majority of the spider-man line) -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

I would guess DC. Lego wants to turn a profit, so actually releasing products would assumably be profitable. Of course, the same is true for DC, but there's more degrees of separation, and there's more that they're working on. One thing that I'm really starting to guess is a factor is that DC CANNOT stick to a release schedule. Marvel's had delays, of course, but they got it under control pretty quickly. DC has multiple films that have been delayed countless times over multiple years, and while it's not entirely their fault (Ezra Miller never seemed like the most stable guy to me, but who would've guessed he'd go nuts?), it's definately understandable that lego doesn't want to design sets that may never see the light of day. -

Box office isn't the only metric of popularity. Personally I'd guess the top 5 goes Spidey (at the top no matter what), then in no particular order, iron man, hulk, wolverine, and captain America. He's popular, sure, but I wouldn't say he's THAT popular. I'd compare his popularity to harley quinn. Around for decades (though of course he was around much longer than harley), but has a sudden spike in popularity in the 2010s due to a movie. And while people can agree harley's popular, I don't think anyone would put her above, like, Batman/superman/wonder woman/flash/joker or whoever the 5 most popular DC characters are. (of course, I think black panther's cool and that being a more mainstream avenger now is good, whereas harley's newfound popularity makes me uneasy for some reason) -

Sure, but I just said "might". I'm really not sure why my first comment is being taken as "I am confident that by virtue of rejecting the set they'll announce a new one" -

Good, you did a great job with the design of the set. But now I'm just completely spun around. Clearly the leakers were misled about the hulkbuster (or just making stuff up, but there were some pretty reliable guys claiming it was coming), but this would also imply that the $500 D2C is unknown. (Unless it's also a black panther vehicle, in which case I'd go nuts. For two of the three most expensive marvel sets to be based on a character who, while popular, isn't even in the top 5? That's wild. -

I should, again, have clarified. With the bespin set I was talking about, the hint wasn't that they rejected it. They said one of their rejected sets that time was rejected because it was too similar to a set in development. (that being the bespin MBS). -

Yeah, like it looks cool (except the "face", it feels weird to me), but no way is it really worth $350, and I don't think many people would buy it. But a TDK Batman version of that, especially with how crucial a role his gauntlets played in that film.... sign me up! -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

It is really weird. I personally would NOT be confident in a sequel missing the main character of the original. Like, imagine Iron Man 2 but it's just Rhodey, Happy, and Pepper vs Whiplash. Or Thor 4 but it's just Jane, Korg and Valkeryie. The fact that they're giving this wave about the same amount of attention as the first waves for stuff like Endgame and Infinity war....? Yeah, I dunno. A helmet could have done pretty well, but $350 for a helmet and the forearms... IDK. Wouldn't they still have Very Dark Gray? -

Sure, a hulkbuster is better for the $500 spot I guess. What an odd turn of events. The BP bust is better than a vehicle, but still a weird choice for $350. -

I should have clarified. Whether or not they'll make a system set of that scene. Hence why I brought up the bespin example... -

Might give us some info on whether or not they do, if nothing else. Back when they allowed submissions for star wars, someone did a bespin duel set, and when they rejected it they hinted pretty hard at the Betrayal on Bespin MBS set. -

Sorry for the double post, but I just bought the iron man mech. I was at walmart helping one of my suitemates get some stuff for his room and it was on sale. It's much better than the last mech I got, the 2020 iron man one. Lots of newish parts in dark red, which is great, but honestly it looks pretty cool so I might not even scrap it. The iron man figure having a gold torso and legs is awesome too, I kind of want them to do a helmet in gold so I can have a full golden iron man. I also love that new trans-blue that looks sort of frosted and glittery, and his arm shield. The only minor nitpicks i have are that they have parts in the normal trans-blue as well, and that the way they attach the legs to the body makes them just slightly offset from eachother. Both super minor things though. 9/10 might get wolverine the next time I go to walmart. -

Yeah I really don't understand the responses by @DBlegonerd7. This is stuff you can find online pretty easily. Fun fact: the reason 61287 started getting used for streetlamps in some of those winter village sets was because the designer heard the mold was gonna be destroyed and didn't want that to happen. -
Disney Properties 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Soupperson1's topic in LEGO Licensed
Lego destroys the molds of elements that haven't been used for x amount of time. Multiple designers have talked about this, I think the most recent update we got was regarding the goat mold. Apparently they keep the 3-D files now, so it's possible for them to return, but they'd be "new molds" financially speaking since they'd have to create new physical molds. -

Unfortunately, throw them out. CMFs constantly have new molds that never appear again. Actually, if I'm remembering the timelines right, the disney series one molds should be destroyed by now. Yeah sorcerer mickey is a given You've given me a premonition. The minnie variant will be that weird pantsuit she had at disneyland paris recently. -
That's actually really interesting just in general. I've always thought of Mr. Zahn as basically just Thrawn for some reason, so it's kind of funny to hear him say he doesn't know something. Wait, are you not already a happy goomba via your PFP? Has that smile been one not of happiness, but barely contained rage this whole time?

I dunno. I don't think any lego's been revealed at D23 before, but the timing adds up, and it is a giant piece of merch based directly off disney's most popular disney+ show... I wouldn't bet on it, but I wouldn't bet against it either. -
[MOC] Republic Dropship for the 2013 and 2022 AT-TEs
Mandalorianknight replied to ForgedInLego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Is there a way to lock it in further? Because aside from that, or changing where you lock it in, I think the only solutions involve altering that AT-TE to make it not so front-heavy. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I don't even know that there would be, since I doubt anyone but completionists are gonna get this anyway. Seriously, if the set doesn't have a really kickass figure selection, is anyone here who doesn't automatically buy every marvel set planning on buying it? I don't believe so, for two reasons. 1: Leakers seem to know a lot about this set, and we've known about the price increases for months now. I feel like we would have heard already. 2: however bizarre the decision to make this set was, there's no WAY they're crazy enough to increase the price further. I think I'm gonna take your strategy. (I would do everything on bricklink, but lego bought them...). They've been making some really baffling decisions about the sets they produce lately (Vidiyo, Camp Nou, Queer eye, etc are all things where I just don't understand how they thought they would succeed, and I'm sure that making the minifigure bags feel-proof boxes, the odd choice of the $500 set being a black panther vehicle, and whatnot just sets them up for more failures), but they never really impacted me until these price increases. I'm not against companies trying to make a profit, but this doesn't even seem like it'll be a profitable idea long-term, since any gains from the increases should be more than offset by alienated customers and less sets sold due to those increases. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Given the fact that the mechs sets are all $5 more, my guess is the price increases are already accounted for at this point. (Which, yeah, a 50% increase is crazy, but lego's price increases this year have been hilariously inconsistent. Some sets don't increase, others spike by huge amounts, there's clearly not a set % increase. Like, if they said "all sets are 8% more expensive (rounded to the nearest .99) because of inflation", at least then you could see the reasoning more clearly. This does feel a little bit more like they're charging more for what they know will sell anyway. -

Same. I'm actually really annoyed. I chose the AT-AT over it back when I sold my lego death star in late 2021, but I don't have a spare $350 (or $385 now?), and I just know the bugle's going to spike in price the second it retires. -
No problem. Mess hall looks great, as does the posing! I love how offended the chef trooper seems that the shoretrooper doesn't like his cooking. I'm almost done with my Citadel tower, here's a pic of the WIP exterior:
