Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

There's a marked difference between "other characters appear in film" and "character's second film gets two co-leads and a title change", that's all I'll say. "Pricing was too inflexible to change"? But they increase it closer than this all the time! We've known the marvels set was $90 for forever. For whatever reason, lego thinks The Marvels of all things is the one they can really dig deep with on price gouging, and it's gonna bite them in the #ss. I can't think of a single other marvel set this overpriced. Maybe the compound battle? But that had two bigfigs and was based on the most anticipated film ever made. -

Unfortunate, but still not a terrible price for 2023. I'll accept it. -

I think given how we're not getting many figs/new prints in general for the system marvel/dc sets, lego's trying to focus on the more "iconic" characters. For the MCU, that means the heroes, rather than the villains that'll generally only feature in the first film (doesn't excuse Kang, though.) And still a super dumb idea. The lack of conflict makes these sets pretty dumb for kids IMO. This is why they get away with this. They price the set nearly double what it should be, and people will complain but still get it. Guys, PLEASE do not buy this unless you find it at a significant sale. $90 for this is absolutely insane. My money's on Thing. There will be two new prints: a sue storm torso and a johnny storm/mr fantastic torso. Half the marvel films of that era grossed over a billion, and coming out just before endgame, there was no way it wasn't going to make it. A LOT of people did not like the movie much at all, and calling everyone who dislikes it an incel is moronic. -

This is without a doubt the best set subtheme since Rogue One. The E-wing and Shin's fighter are both out-of-this-world incredible. Shin and Baylon themselves aren't perfect to me, but they aren't bad, and I LOVE the others. The shuttle is losing out from failing to fit all three figs in the cockpit, but for $70 in 2023 it was a sacrifice that needed to be made. I'll be pretty annoyed if they can't lay down in the side panels, though. A shuttle needs to fit more than 1 fig. That said, as a display/play piece, it looks incredible, has the function, and has some truly great figs. Both excellent sets, alongside, of course, the ghost. -

100% agree. There was no way this was going to be good, the designer did his/her best. That said, Even Yoda wasn't so bad IMO, for him it was just the eyes. Here, I've got a variety of issues, that mostly come down to "chewbacca has shaggy fur and it doesn't fit for a lego statue of this size". He looks like Clayface in how his legs build up and his feet look like they're sticking into the floor. He looks like his face melts into his torso. His mouth looks horrifying. But even if all those things were fixed, I just can't see anyone spending $200 on a buildable chewbacca statue. At least with the droids, helmets, and the Child, I see the appeal for some. I've been over this a few times, but it's frequently not the designer's fault. There was no way this was gonna work. (Now that said, there are some examples, like @Ransom Fern's hulkbuster alt build, where a design was produced that was better than the official one in every way, including stability and playability, but it's pretty rare.) -

And yet despite having what, 4 shield-carrying patriotic figs, not a single version of a living Steve Rogers, the true captain america. -

This is not true even remotely. Wolverine is THE most popular X-man, and Storm and Beast are core members of the team. They also importantly benefit from the expanded printing and new molds of a CMF, as opposed to professor X, cyclops, or jean gray, who wouldn't require any new molds. (and are less visually interesting, if we're for some reason pretending the x-men are C/D tier and kids won't know them, in which case a blue monster and lightning-firing goddess would be more interesting than dude with visor, dude in wheelchair, and girl in yellow suit) Trying not to get my hopes up, but it makes sense to differentiate him from Kate, and I'd probably get him alongside the knights if he is in the ronin suit. -

If the bricklink prices aren't too bad, I'll be getting moon knight and Mr. Knight. No one else. I'm very happy for those who wanted the X-Men (Though tbh, wolveriene is kind of a waste of a slot here, we just got the mech and this doesn't bring much new to the table), but personally they don't mean much to me. That said, I think overall they're a good choice for the CMF. -

At this point I'm just going to assume the series doesn't exist and I will be pleasantly surprised with anything that releases. I got it mixed up. The Federal Trade Commission did an investigation, and a senator proposed a bill against the practice of digital loot boxes. At the time it was rumored that battlefront 2 was one of the chief games being looked at. -

it's got to be brick-built, I think. Both for size, and I can't see lego including spare torsos and legs in a CMF. Superhero film where Bigfoot, Nessie, Mothman, the Jersey Devil, and the Yeti come together to fight off Ogopogo Whereas now we can't get a set including Ezra Miller's flash (Don't get me wrong- Ezra Miller should be in jail whereas Gina Carano said something on twitter some people didn't like, so it's not the same thing at all, but in terms of "actor different than character", lego seems to have changed their tune). Actually, about the same time as Cara being in a set, we had Slave One just called "boba fett's starship", and the ToD set was cancelled, though we don't know if it was for fear of controversy. I find it hilarious that lego seems so controversy-averse with stuff like that, and yet at the same time is doing the physical version of what caused Battlefront 2 to be investigated by the US senate. -
Very nice, I'm glad my leg attachment solution was adapted here, and you've managed to pull off an incredibly sleek and thin design.

I don't know how to tell you this, but every product on shelves, (even food) has probably been touched by at least a few customers already with their unwashed mittens. And for those of us who can't afford entire cases, or just don't want to spend... what, $300 on a full box? Is that right? when we only want a few figs (I mean, even the full set of 12 would be $60), it's a lot nicer to not have to guess who we're spending money on. For instance, I want moon and mr knight, but I don't want, say, she-hulk or clint. If I'm buying a product, I want to know what I'm buying, not just have a "chance" that I'm getting what I want. -

Eh, you can always get more for your family. He certainly doesn't "need" it, but I can't imagine he's joining the MCU because he loves the character Red Hulk. No Rattrap. The maximals don't get much screen time aside from Primal and Airrazor, and my guess is they figured a rat would be confusing for the audience who hadn't seen beast wars and would wonder why a rat was alongside an eagle, gorrila, cheetah, and rhino. -

I can't see this lasting too many more months. Eventually these guys are gonna need to pay their rent (not to sound insensitive, I haven't actually looked into what they're striking against beyond chatGPT type stuff), so a deal will be reached at some point. Either way, deadpool 3 is already filming, and I can't imagine the writing of the current MCU is gonna take too long to do after the strike ends, especially if it's just reshoot writing or something. -

I only read this part at first and thought you were dissing the new transformers in response to my prime day joke, and I was about to throw digital hands. We finally got one that isn't terrible! But yeah, couldn't agree more about indy 5. Nothing sticks out about it, which is funny, because this is arguably more fantastical than KotCS. (Though the movie's fantasy elements are at least more in line with the OT than "aliens skulls from interdimensional beings"), and it's just a gross, empty film. I feel bad for Ford, but I suppose since he's joining the MCU now he's just going for paychecks for his family at this point. -

The issue with Deadpool is not that he's violent. Wolveriene is violent, Batman is violent, etc, they've all had movies with R-rating levels of violence (logan, snyder cut/BvS ultimate, etc). The issue with deadpool is that he's incredibly foulmouthed, not just in the "swearing in pain/anger" way, but in the "absolutely can't WAIT to tell kids exactly where babies come from" way. The deadpool movies love using shock humor. It's like saying why can't we have Homelander when Superman's snapped Zod's neck. The most I can see is them putting Deadpool in an X-men inspired set that also happens to contain wolveriene, but even that seems very, very, unlikely to me. -

Man, that is tempting. That said, I hate the commercialization of Prime day. He died for your sins, people! It would depend on the extent. If he just showed up at the end? Definately not. If he replaced Helena (Character indy has a connection too, except actually this time. And much more likeable), I think it would have been much better, and I may actually have been ok with the sort of undoing of that end twist with Indy, since it'd come from a place of love. -

I prefer the plain white lightsabers to trans-clear ones, but I hope they do trans-clear for everyone else. White 4L bars are cheap enough, and they don't have them in trans-clear yet. Chopper does feel like a bit of a downgrade in the head, but the better torso makes up for it. -

Oh, hi Mark! (I know you're not him, but someone'll get that reference at least) The wider point is that while sure, there are sets that could have been designed better (and I would put the BP set in that list, it's face feels off to me), most of people's issues with the marvel theme aren't the fault of the designers themselves. (Lack of/poorly distributed print/mold budget, sets being made where you really do wonder who asked for them, etc) -

There's literally a line in the original script where indy says something like "Practitioners of Hinduism don't eat monkey brains, these guys are some sort of cult". I agree that the film clearly isn't trying to imply that it's a common thing for Indian people. -

A few things quickly: 1. we know at least some designers frequent this forum, though I don't believe Stafford is one of them (or doesn't have an account, at least). I'm not saying the BP bust wasn't a terrible idea for an official set, just something to keep in mind. 2. Stafford himself has done a variety of excellent sets, and pushed for characters like DD and Punisher in the bugle. I'd definately still trust his designs. In fact, if I remember correctly, wasn't there something about the BP bust being first made just as a MOC and turned into an official set later (or was that the Cantina?) And this is where budget and pricing come into play. For $100, that's about as good as the Bowie was gonna get. You can't really fault the designer for the set not being a bigger budget or being sold at a larger price point. -

IIRC it's Baylon, Shin, Morgan Elsbeth, and a couple generic NR characters. I suppose it's possible the NR pilot is Zeb but I feel like that's something we would have heard by now. My guess is neither Zeb, Thrawn, or Ezra are in the first wave, but I think there's a chance we'll get a spoiler set with at least Thrawn and Ezra (and the) in January or March of 2024 -

The new Ghost set is incredible, almost everything I could have asked for. A set that makes me want to buy it so badly, even though it's not in the budget and I have the 2014 ghost. I tried to think of some other sets that'd drain my wallet: Endor Rebels battle pack ($19.99): 2x endor rebel commando (green trenchcoats), 1x endor rebel commando (tan vest), 1x endor rebel commando (Kes Dameron). Build is a small bit of exterior endor bunker that can be attached to a later set in the list with an exploding wall feature. Stormtrooper battle pack ($19.99): 4x stormtroopers, as well as a pack of 2 cloth pauldrons (black and orange) to denote rank. Build is a turbolaser turret. Mando's N-1 Starfighter ($39.99): (Obviously much smaller than the- in my opinion- terrible 2022 set) Comes with Mando, Grogu, R5, and Bo-Katan Zeffo Exploration ($49.99): Zeffo Tomb with features to represent force push, wall run, and some of Cal's other abilities. Includes a stim crate build. Comes with Cal Kestis (Fallen Order, poncho), BD-1, 1x Purge Trooper, 2x Scout Trooper, and a buildible Tomb Guardian. Black One ($59.99): Poe Dameron's black one, in between the 2021 and 2018 x-wings in size. Comes with Poe Dameron (pilot), BB-8, Rey (Starkiller Base), and Finn (jacket). Bode Akuna's Headhunter ($69.99): Z-95 headhunter in Bode's color scheme. Comes with Bode Akuna (blasters, jetpack, Kata hologram), Cal Kestis (Survivor outfit, lightsaber, blaster), BD-1, a scout riot commander, and a buildible DT droid. Twilight of the Apprentice ($109.99): Malachor temple (some petrified statues outside of the pyramid steps, with interior rooms for the door hallway, chasm, and the superweapon room.), as well as a midi-scale TIE advanced. Comes with Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus (temple guard mask), Ahsoka Tano, Maul, Fifth Brother, Seventh Sister, Eighth Brother, and Lord Vader. Endor Bunker Assault ($139.99): Endor Bunker (sliding door function. Splits in half for the interior, with an armory and officer's room on one side and the control console and generator room on the other), a speeder bike, and an ewok glider. Comes with Endor Leia, Endor Han, Commander Rex, R2-D2, Paploo, an Ewok Scout, 2x stormtrooper, 2x army trooper, a scout trooper, and an imperial officer. The Stinger Mantis ($169.99): The Stinger Mantis with interior cockpit (room for 3 figs to sit), holotable/planet select room with couch, retractable ramp, and the common room/small kitchen in the main section, with a workbench and printed tile for the meditation point in a small interior within the engine area. Comes with Cal Kestis (Fallen Order), Greez Ditrius, Cere Junda, Nightsister Merrin, BD-1, the Bogling, Second Sister, and a Purge Commander.
