LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Not to minimod, but adding on to what @BrickBob Studpants said, this is literally impossible unless he's a member of the family. People can disagree with you without working for or owning a share in a company you seem to hate despite being on a forum about it's toys. Also, the print issue happens with lego all the time, and fox really isn't that bad of an offender, I'm guessing you just got a bad copy. For a few years there every batman was either super pale or super tan. The bigger issue IMO is that they photoshopped the ball joint in the chewbacca set to a literal different color in some images, which I think is a much bigger case of false advertising since it's not just idealizing a print but changing the actual part used in the set. That said, I don't think people who don't care as much work for lego. 100% agree with all of this. I got my one with VIP points, and I will not be getting another. I agree. It fits with Renown's statement that MOST of the builds can't fly- it's only the STAP, not the turret, carrier, or BARC (Which is in a grey area, but I wouldn't see speeder bikes can fly in the same way an ARC-170 can), and lego's done battle pack remakes before (imperial dropship, mandalorians) Though ironically, I think I'm much more likely to buy it (or at least buy more of it) if the builds ARE remakes of the 2007 ones. I think it'd be really cool (and I actually remade them as my first two digital mocs posted here, years ago- shown in spoiler): There are two things that would turn me off from the battle pack- the clones are some version of the 501st, or the clones are P1. I've already explained why I don't want to see another 501st battle pack for a minimum of half a decade, but as for the P1s, I've just collected a pretty solid number of p2 clones and don't really want to collect multiple clone armies that can't be displayed together in the way different legions can. Just a personal choice. -

-the Hoopty's piece count, 420, is a number that- at least in america- is often used as a reference to the drug marijuana. I was joking that the designers must have been smoking that drug to make a set like that at a $90 price point. -I am hoping that the Hoopty sells poorly enough that lego will be convinced not to make the X-jet $80, because that is grossly overpriced. Yes. Also, and unrelated, it's suspicious to me that in this era of lego being so controversy-averse, they're fine making a set 420 pieces. -

Exactly! The Rebel Fleet troopers in ANH/Rogue one tended to be middle-aged white dudes. Making sets of that scene where it's suddenly 50/50 male/female and racially diverse is really weird, and one of the things I didn't like about the rebel hoth pack. If it's this important to lego that the generic troops are racially diverse, do a scarif rebels pack, the rogue one wave was incredibly accurate to the actual soldiers present to the point grunts were based on specific extras... and to my knowledge we still need Melshi, who ironically has become the most prevalent guy. The set is $54.99, right? I could see Vader, 2 stormies, and 3 rebels, or just Vader and 4 rebels depending on how they want to do it. Where's that guy who's signature is "this tread is hostile, Jim can you please close it" or something when you need him? But yeah. Whenever the prequels and clones are discussed there are frequently accusations that people work for lego. At least this time we didn't have anyone unleash the classic "lego secretly hates the prequels and is intentionally sabotaging the sales of their own products by making the clone sets not perfect" coping mechanism. Edit: Sorry for double post, I thought they would merge. -

We've been over this. The Hoopty's piece count is what the designers were smoking when they came up with the idea of making the set $90. I hope it's inevitable crash and burn will get lego to NOT make the X-jet $80, because the X-men sets need to come out swinging if we're ever gonna have a chance of getting more comic/97 styled ones. -

Just built the 332nd pack, my thoughts: The set is an INCREDIBLE parts pack! 3x3 quarter circle curved slopes, 1/2 pins with friction in DBG, 1x1 plate with 2 handles, etc. Tons of parts I didn't have yet in LBG/DBG, and I'm looking forewords to seeing those 3x3 quarter circle curved slope prices go down for TIE mocs. The figures are take 'em or leave 'em. They're fine. My Vaughn will be using a dark red visor. The jetpacks are a nice addition, but the set has 2 new prints, which is kind of insanely low for a battle pack that's asking for $20. And that's my main issue with the set. I got it for $5 (basically just paid shipping) due to VIP points, but I would not have paid more than $15 for this. Even the specialists pack felt more "worth it" than this, the swamp speeder is just so tiny and the figs are pretty generic. Oh, and once again, no controls? It'd be like 2 pieces. C'mon. What would have solved these issues for me (and the additional nitpick of the 332nd never using a swamp speeder) would be if they'd made this a 327th pack with 3x 327th troopers and Bly. The additional prints and pauldrons would have made the set feel like a much better value for money (given pauldrons' aftermarket prices, getting 4 in a $20 set would be great, and can't cost lego much at all), and it'd be nice to get a new legion instead of the 501st with orange paint on their faces. -

I would not be a huge fan of them making the rebels in that set not based off the ones in the hallway scene (either ANH or Rogue One). I want my sets to look like the scenes they represent, and not be intentionally inaccurate. The kamas are my only issue with the clones (aside from how many 501st type sets we're getting), but they are a big one. The cloth kamas were such a fun bit of customization and made your commanders look unique in a way that a bit of printing on the front of the legs just doesn't. -

I imagine we'd get printing similar to the mud on mudtrooper Han, but it's still a weird choice. 100% agree. Venomized Ock at least sounds like a really interesting build, Green Goblin just isn't doing it for me when there are so many other figures we could get. -

So clearly set three is: War Machine (Don Cheadle) and War Machine (Terrance Howard) Harley Keener Sentry and Void Hulk Jane Foster Bullet Points Blade Nakia Venom (older comics where black looked blue) Dr. Strange (third eye) The fact that the set is a single $10.99 set makes me wonder if we're getting back to that wonderful era of cheap, non-gimmick sets. The guardians headquarters set was great, and if we get something like Venomized Ock+ spidey+ a street corner with a streetlamp throw feature, I'd love it! -

Ouch... that is rough. It's not a dealbreaker for me, as I'm only going to have it displayed with one side visible, but for kids, or anyone who does like swooshing them... ouch. I'd prefer a diorama, but I'd also love this. A good way to get a large number of Fleet Troopers, something we haven't had a reliable method of massing since 2008. For the standard rebel soldier, they should be MUCH easier to obtain than one every half-decade or so. -

A win is a win. The CIS to GAR gap in terms of faction power based on what we can currently buy is something I imagine is really annoying for kids. I used to pair off my sets and figs for battles, and there's just no way kids today could have the CIS stack up anything more than B1s since august 2020. Nuts. -

This is the correct answer. He deserves a D2C, not a $34.99 set. Maybe, MAYBE for Mk1, but they'd need to do a new mold for the rest of the bots for the other leg. -

Multiple builds, then? Like the Snowtrooper battle pack, or like the 332nd with a build and a little 4-piece shooter? -

"army building lego minifigures is an art form" is my new favorite take on EB. C'mon, man. Not to invoke the plastic toys argument, but... it's collecting minifigures, most of whom are identical. Not a ton of creativity and imagination going on there even if you're doing it the "right" way. Let people do what they want. -

We've had sets below $50 (or even below what would today be $50) with bigfigs before, but given lego's track record I bet the set'll only have Captain Falcon, Torres, and 1-2 other heroes. -

This would have gotten me to buy the figure. Venom v dock out sounds interesting at that price point. Raimi Goblin (It's got to be him, right?) is an excellent idea for a construction fig and likely the only one I will ever consider getting, assuming he's got the glider. X-jet is big news and I'm glad we're getting the largest system set dedicated to them. Nothing else even remotely interests me. -

I only agree with the white on black part. "The legs have holes on the back of them" is going to be bad for anything besides cloth, which for whatever reason lego seems unwilling to do for clones now, and it's significantly worse with printing, since you don't have the sides. As for the gap at the top of the groin area, that seems very minor to me. (But even if it is an issue, we could just have white hips, as the kama is right at the waist. Gunship isn't doing it for me. I don't really like that it's not a standard one, but being a coruscant one isn't terrible. That said, the design fails to improve significantly on the decade-old one, and I'm not a fan of the figs. I believe for the quality of the build, more than 5 were needed, and especially a pilot. -

I have some bad news for you... I'm sort of picking on you here as I'm sure you liked the specialists pack, but this is the perfect example of an instance where lego is in a no-win situation with clones somehow. Ranked/special troops? "bad for a battle pack" (I agree about, say, higher ranks in a bona fide battle pack, but disagree about special troops and lower ranks in stuff like the hovertank.). All generic troops? Complaints about the lack of ranked troops. Lego's been making some really bad decisions recently, but you can't argue they haven't been trying their best to give clone fans everything they want. Also, I assume the SBDs are finally returning because they've fixed them, but we'll see. Battle Pack: Sounds good. Hope it is 4 p2 shinies, I'll pick one or two up at least if so. Also happy the SBDs are returning after all this time, this was long-awaited by me. Grogu Escape: I personally think this is incredibly stupid, especially with lego running out of vehicles to put in clone battle packs, but I'm happy for the people who want it, and for Ahmed Best to get a fig of himself again after 8 years. Who knows, I might even pick one up if we get shock troopers. Podrace Diorama: Surprised they're doing this, since I thought the trench run was a shelfwarmer, but I think it'll look nice. I just figured we'd have had palpatine's arrest, mustafar duel, or other prequel stuff before this. Tantive IV hallway diorama: Come at me, lego. Midi scale falcon: Nice, hope it's got a cool brick-built stand like the Executor. I like the idea of these being the new helmet series. Droidika: YES, YES, YES. I've never wanted one of these statue sets so badly, and I don't even like droidikas that much in general. Something about this concept just sounds awesome to me. R2- Waste of a slot IMO, I don't care if it's smaller than the one from two years ago, it's WAAAAY to soon. We do not care. YJA is fine for 4+, but I hope they ARE 4+. Waste of a slot if not. For Skeleton Crew, it'll depend on the show and main ship's design, I literally have no info to go off of here. All in all some great ideas, mid-tier sets, and slot wastes. It kind of feels incomplete, I think we're definately missing a sub-$30 set for one thing. -

This should be lego's new battle pack slogan. I want this plastered on every box. Massive, incredible respect for you coming out and saying this instead of using your track record to make random stuff up like other leakers (coughs in marvel studios) -

The sentinal is definately not happening. For it to be the size the head implies, the parts would be spread over all 12 figures, not two others like the leaks claimed. And if it is included, just the parts aren't being shown, why only show the head? Someone saw the head, made an assumption, and lost. -

I could see it, though it's one of the weirdest possible sets to do for a prequel diorama. Why not Palpatine's arrest? Renown has something like a 100% accuracy rate. I vividly remember saying I thought he was wrong in mid 2019 and he was proved entirely correct. Apparently someone's told you something, but believe me, Renown doesn't speak unless he's sure. -

Shock, 327th, or 212th would all get me to buy a copy, but at this point I'm really starting to get annoyed with this. Since august 2020, we've had 9 battle pack type sets- and that's being generous with some of the non-clone sets, and 5 have been clone troopers. That's insane. (Non-clone: hoth rebels, snowtroopers, dark troopers/luke, trexler marauder imps. Clone: 501st, 501st specialist, 332nd (fanta 501st...), 187th, geonosis) Clones should not be the majority of battle packs. This is absurd. B2s hinted at by Renown, but I agree with the wider point. Too many clone packs. Yeah. Or rebels, or first order, or mandalorians, or scoundrels... I'm glad lego listened and got us clones, but they're going overboard. Clones don't need to be EVERY SINGLE BATTLE PACK. Yeah, but those would kind of suck for a battle pack. An arc trooper or two in an otherwise generic 501st pack would be fine, but troopers you only have one of in the entire army? defeats the purpose. HELL YEAH! They finally fix the B2 issues? -

Wow, seeing them all here I might have to get almost half the series! (On bricklink, of course. I'm not spending $5 to cross my fingers for wolveriene when I'm equally likely to get goliath.) The Knights and X-men are all done really well (I mean, even Wolveriene, who I'd considered a waste of a slot, looks so much better than his mech fig that I want to buy him despite having that fig), and those are the characters I care about, so I'm getting them. It's not that the other 7 aren't superbly detailed or anything, but I just don't care about-or actively dislike-the characters. It's a situation where it's perhaps more on Marvel than on lego, though I still wonder if marvel was really telling lego "hey, you HAVE to put goliath in this cmf" -
Dune 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Licensed
What about the hood they use for Miles figs? It's much thinner. It could be nice, but Avatar had very unique and interesting plantlife and environments. Dune, (despite being a much, MUCH better film IMO), just has a desert. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'd take more ornithopter over some tan plates and tiles any day. Now if they had the sandworm coming out of the desert, that'd be a different story, but I don't think you could get a 4-seater ornithopter, desert, and any meaningful amount of sandworm into a $150 set without the sandworm being tiny. -
Unfortunately (for classic space purposes at least, I prefer the main one for Dune) it's likely the main one. I suppose it's always possible it's the small two-seater and the extra figs are just Fremen like Chani and Stilgar, but I think it's much more likely the set is the main ornithopter model based on the spice harvester scene and will include Paul, Leto, Gurney, and Kynes.
