  1. Without opening a new topic for it, here are the new revisions to my modded skull army. For the mermaid-looking skull villain the credit goes to Logan McOwen and his siren MOC: I thought it was a great idea and that a similar character would make a better fitting adversary of Gali. Without much further comment, their height were increased considerably as some of them use the newer torso bone.
  2. Well, it just surprises me because the set's two primary colors are well-known and nothing new - even with the added CGI, you could easily measure how they will look like in set form. (Btw I'm not sure how such subtle things can make that much of a difference, but opinions may differ.)
  3. But... the set hasn't changed a bit from the pics. I mean at all. ._____.
  4. My thoughts exactly. They don't look bad, they just don't look neat enough. So they get a meh on my part. IIRC somebody recreated the function and posted it on flickr. EDIT: Here you go.
  5. Hey everyone, since I can't use Grievous in my collection, I've always considered the set as a great start for a Bionicle-related MOC, possibly a villain figure of some sort. I had toyed for a while with the idea of Umarak the Destroyer being larger than the size of what it will be and, subsequently, I came up with this. The mixture of trans yellow, trans neon green and trans bright green is purely intentional, the mish-mash of textures is not (hence it's a WIP). Comments & criticism are welcome.
  6. Thanks everyone for the replies! Yeah, now that you mention it, a new set of Toa sounds more plausible as most likely there won't be room for several villain sets in the first wave of 2017.
  7. A random question for everyone: what do you think, will we see more elemental beasts in the first half of 2017? Just an idea that occured to me, given the low number of summer sets (although there's nothing to be suprised about in that as last year also saw 5 sets in the summer wave). Still, having only 3 elemental beasts with only 3 new blended masks is a bit strange, even if the masks are of the larger Toa sets.
  8. Pointing out an invalid comment on a set feature belongs to the daily life of the thread imo.
  9. Here you go: Help the Toa to unite with the elemental creatures to win the battle against the evil and seize the golden Mask of Control! You can combine the Toa with any creature to create completely new and unique powers that will decide the (outcome) of the battle. The sturdy models allow for an intense play with fearless action. Together the Toa and the creatures form an unstoppable force!
  10. What a mess. Much has been said about the textures and the color scheme, but the mask is a serious disappointment as well.
  11. Kopaka was definitely my favorite from the first wave of G2 and, in my opinion, the new Kopaka is vastly inferior to the one we've got this year in terms of proportions, color scheme, mask, weapons and subsequently, overall look. The gun is nothing to run wild about in my eyes and similarly, the sword is nowhere near as good-looking or stylish as this year's shield. And those golden pieces on the thighs. Ouch.
  12. To be honest the trans light blue/gold MoCr would be the most reasonable choice to go with, so that's not really a suprise imo.
  13. And gunmetal shadow traps as well - they seemed to be silver on the renders.
  14. I like CCBS very much from the building perspective and I liked the old system for its more Technic-like aesthetic. What I don't wanna see is going back-and-forth between building styles and overall look. I want my sets not just to be compatible with each other but to have a coherent aesthetic. I don't like at all how I can't really put the 2016 Toa next to the 2015 Toa, Hero Factory sets next to G1 Bionicle sets and so on. That's my biggest concern.
  15. Tahu's upper legs are way too long imo. I hoped the mask would look better in real life than it does on the CGI pics, but it's still nowhere near as pleasing aesthetically as the 2015 version.
  16. I totally agree and that's something I really, really miss post-2003: the original athmosphere. Exploring a mysterious island, gathering at Kini Nui, the whole tribal vibe and the obligatory MNOG music made so much of a difference back then. I had hoped 2015 was going to replicate that feel, but it didn't quite work out.
  17. It well can be I'm just not all that hyped about the combo feature: I do believe the wings suit Lewa and Gali definitely gains more of an aquatic look, but I'm still not too keen on those combi models. I guess it's a matter of taste. Well, the gear area certainly looks underarmored to me. Maybe this piece could help to add some. It's interesting that you mention the pic because I think the perspective and pose of Gali+Akida is rather awkward with the head seemingly photoshopped onto the torso armor in an impossible way. I can't really pinpoint the cause of my concern, but the proportions seem somehow really off on Gali. I think the upper legs/thighs are just way too long with the lower legs/shins being too short. The mask seems to be having a swimcap and is a little bottom-heavy. As for the weapon, I can't figure it out what that chain is supposed to be good for. The propeller is a good idea, but the use of orange tooth elements make it look really barbaric which doesn't really suit Gali imo. I don't know, but Akida feels really lackluster and the water guns, even as shoulder-mounted cannons on Gali, don't make the set any more interesting in my eyes. I'm not sure I would consider changing the angle of those guns as a function either. It's also matter of personal taste, of course. All in all, I'm glad a lot of you see the sets in a more positive perspective than I do.
  18. I'm skipping on the creatures but Melum, 'thanks' to the unity set: they don't appeal to me all that much, even with their functions and combination feature. As I said before, these power-up models are not nearly as convincing in my eyes as I hoped them to be: Pohatu+Ketar is all over the place, Gali+Akida is very strange and not really exciting, and I don't like the fact how the smaller Toa's golden masks clash with their elemental creatures' silver heads. Speaking of Gali and Akida, they seem to be the weakest sets of both lines, which is really disappointing. And for the record, Kopaka2015>>>Kopaka2016 imo. On another note, somebody on another forum has brought it up and I'd like to mention here as well how gappy the news sets are from behind.
  19. Rey is a positive surprise for me, the head sculpt looks really nice and, as Aanchir expressed his concerns, I'm also glad a female human head made it to the shelves. I think it's a nice compromise between having her a fully hooded head with hear shades and a head without any accessories. Finn's head is also better than on the shot from the Lego Magazine, but it is still lackluster. Anyway, they are both excellent part packs. Kylo Ren is a must have for the majority of the target audience - too bad his color scheme is the least exciting of the wave. And Phasma is great, so is Poe, enough said.
  20. I've been holding out my judgment until finalized pics and detailed shots, and the sets definitely look better than on earlier pics. The combinations are still underwhelming, though. Akida and Ketar look like squirming animals that were just bashed onto the back of Gali and Pohatu, respectively. And although the creatures have nice little functions, they are still disappointing - I evaluate a set much more based on its looks than on its functions, and the creature head piece - albeit I see a lot of possibilities in its use - is a letdown in my view. Apart from all that, my biggest disappointment would be Gali: the mask is not as stylish as the current one, the weapon is strange (what is that thing on the end of the chain? and what can she do with it?) and the overall look is nowhere near as pleasing as this year. On the bright side, Lewa looks great (even though the color scheme is somewhat monochromatic), Umarak is a suprise winner for me (wanted to skip this one, damn you Lego), the builds and functions are satisfying, and there is a nice assortment of recolors/new parts. Kopaka and Tahu are certainly better too than what I expected them to be, but not as stellar as their 2015 iterations - enough said about their issues, I guess. (And although I've never been collecting 'black' sets, but as much as the gold+solid purple didn't work for me on Onua, the gold and tr. purple look much better this time. Of course, CGI rendering is in effect, so real life might contradict that, but I'm toying with the idea of buying Onua this time.)
  21. Do we have to think within the framework of femininity and masculinity when we address these masks? I don't think any of them are proper subjects to these categories and such use of terms feels forced and unnecessary imo.
  22. Well, most likely an error - it's not unlike how the prototype MoC ended up on the Hero Pack.
  23. A simple Google search does the trick, honestly. As for the images: the patterns on the Toa/Creature masks are more visible for sure.
  24. Here you go. VBBN: the updates look great, thanks!
  25. Yeah, Pohatu is a bit off, hands down - but I wanted to add bright light orange in any case, even if it didn't fit the orange.
