Well, the BDP is back, so here's my pirate entry. I'd love to thank all those who have commented on previous posts. The suggestions and support helped make this build possible. A couple of quick notes: Capstan works (the anchor raises and lowers), as does the larger ship's tiller Captain's cabin bed opens for storage. Minifigures are not included in the palate. I included them anyway in the photos for several reasons: They help give scale The build is very minifigure friendly, it feels fun/playable, the figures highlight that The majority ordering already have crews OR know where/how to order them Most importantly, one of the best parts of the build is the price: these are supposed to be cheap ships. Under 1200 parts, only 350ish unique parts (many of the "unique parts" are interior colors, released hinges, and stickered parts). This build could be $99, why make it $125 to get non-theme torsos that look terrible anyway? Everyone is tossing those as soon as it shows up. Thanks! I'll definitely check out the 1x10 curved slope idea! @Cousarmy0001 If they're not selected, they will be up on Rebrickable. Not immediately, I didn't have time to get the whole thing together in real bricks before the deadline... everything looked and tested okay, but you never know.

@Cousarmy0001 I always appreciate the feedback! I have been skeptical of several things and hearing more opinions helps me a ton! Some responses: 1) I too prefer cloth sails. Brickbuilt are growing on me, but it's not the same. The Scalawag Sloop (album here) had the ability to easily swap cloth/brickbuilt - you'd still have to make your own small square sail. The main tragedy of this build is that there are no actual cloth sails that will work, they'd all have to be custom made. 3) The cannon difference kills me inside. Also, you can't really make similar cuts on the non-gun side since it's built around a technic 2x1 brick... It looks weird. The idea was that the original ships only had cannons for one side (display side) and that would be it. Ultimately, I ditched the cannon altogether, I liked the idea, but it felt more "lego" to go with the second. 5) The deck is dark for my tastes too, but there's nothing that can be done without messing up the lines/colors on the outside. Adding the cannon on top of the foredeck helps get rid of the darkness. Final BDP submission below. The ship will be paired with a smaller fore/aft rigged pirate cutter. I do plan on modifying some things (hopefully she gets enough voter support so the mods go towards that, if not, the mods will just head to rebrickable) so feedback is definitely still appreciated! Build Notes Ended up going with classic blue... just fit elDorado/Barracuda Bay better. Anchor can be raised/lowered via capstan. Stern has a captain style cabin. Has a bed, sea chest, hat, dresser. It's cozy. Tiller still works (I didn't want the hassle of making a working helm, and I've read all the criticism of the original Imperial Flagship for "cool working rudder, but nothing for the captain!!" or the Redbeard Runner/Armada Flagship "Nice destruction play feature, but needs cabin!" Deck is dark, but there's not much deck, the black pulls it together, hides some connections, matches the fortress docks, and really lightens up with bluecoats on it. Couple more photos here

Usually I stay in the Pirate Forum, but I was working on an Armada Flagship build and ended up in Classic Castle. Thought you all might appreciate it.

I ended up going with the primary Lego colors to better fit with Barracuda Bay. Reddish brown bottom, black and blue stripe, white strake. It's brighter, but I'm happy with it. My only real disappointment in the build is the attachment of the beak, but it's hidden, so it's only kind of eating away at me.

@GeoBrick I think I've settled on reddish brown bottom, black and dark blue stripe. The Dark Blue brings the rails together. I'll go back to reddish arches on the back... The dark bluish gray arches were an in color option. There isn't a great bow to main mast option. The rope comes off the triangular sail really awkwardly (whether attached to the sail or attached to the bowsprit). It kind of has to follow the sail's angle. It may not be doable.

@GeoBrick @Capt Wolf Here's a quick render with some of the proposed changes. Notes: I'll swap one of the cannons for a swivel. Ignore the floating hose next to the flag, I wanted to see if the length was right, I'll mount properly when everything's together. Ignore the anchor holder. If this works, I'll run a chain through the front hole and have a capstan to raise and lower the anchor. Questions: Stern opinions? What do you think of the different color scheme? Other ideas? Thanks for the suggestions, I really value the input.

@Capt Wolf Thanks for the feedback. #2 refers to the rigging. One more question for you, the rear cannon is skinny coming out of the hull, is it an issue?

Bigger Bluecoat ship for the BDP. I could use everyone's eyes for details on this. It will be paired with a smaller pirate sloop. Questions: 1) Is the hull color scheme good? It might be a little bland for me. Yellow rails on the top seem too pirate-y. What do you guys think? 2) What do you think of the 21L Hose with Connector Grips (vs the smoother 22L Hose)? 3) What are your opinions on the cannons? I'm wondering about placement/distance apart/connection (front/rear)/number AND if the deck is too crowded. 4) Opinion on anchors/placement? 5) Fore deck has to be black. Is it too dark elsewhere? Ideas? 6) Cabin... should I just make a Bluecoat version of the Scalawag Sloop's ? Something different? If so, what do you have in mind? 7) Rudder/TIller. Right now, the smaller ship uses 68888 4 Bar Axle Connector Hub (like the Eldorado ship). Is it weird that the larger of the two uses a tiller? (It does work btw). Should I just go no cabin and try to make a working helm? 8) Are the railings too plain? The smaller ship has a similar vibe to the Eldorado stern rails, should I go with that?

Thanks for the feedback! I really like the hatch idea. I was kind hoping it wouldn't need a rudder. We'll see about the grappling hook, the BDP doesn't have it available for this build. mast/rigging is underway, that's one of the last steps, since if anything else changes the measurements get all off! Take the swivel gun. If you can't see below, it's mounted on an 11090 bar holder with clip which is mounted into a 1x1 round tile with bar and pin holder.

Alright. So the Scalawag Sloop has not gotten picked up for the BDP series. I'm working on what's likely to be my last Scalawag-based attempt. I'm going to have two ships: pirate and bluecoat this time. Here's my frame for the smaller of the two. What do you guys think? What does it need? Major questions: Does the ship need a different set of colors? If so, what do you suggest? (Please remember that there are limited options for the large wedge piece color) Also, it will be paired with a Bluecoat ship which is larger. Bluecoat sails are striped (either blue or dark blue, I'll post that one when it's closer to being finished). Does it need a higher stern castle? (If so, what do you propose? What colors?) The deck is about 4 plates lower than the sides right now What details need to be added? Does it need an anchor? More guns? A rudder? Stickers? What kind of rigging? Right now, I'm not sure I can fit rat lines, but there might be a rope going from mast to stern. Anything else? Pics below.

Thanks for the kind words. I totally forgot about the gaps!! I dug through a bunch of 18th century ship galley pictures and several had hanging chickens (feathers and all). The seagull pose was identical, so I went for it. -
Hey everyone! Finally finished this thing. It's been sitting on my desk since summer 2023 The goal was to create a modern Caribbean Clipper. My last attempt was a little too "chibi". The original dimensions weren't long enough and it looked a little weird. The new one is MUCH better. It's smaller than the new Barracuda in every dimension save width (obviously). Even the sides sit lower (which was a frustrating trick - the Barracuda is engineered really well). So here it is, Broadside's Brigantine! I wished I had included more figures before I took the pictures. Afterwards, I didn't have the heart to re-edit. Obligatory "Endurance" shot. The owl is illegal (I found a great matching spray paint). Stern. I'm glad Lego has a reasonable Fleur tile! I'm proud of the bluecoat flag blanket!
