Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion

They should do extension packs or at least functionality on Pick a Brick to add the correct bricks too. Not just specific for this set either. Seems like easy money for Lego I like this idea. Exclusive to Lego.com and short shelve run. Even a small premium on what a normal set of that size would cost to buy. All companies try to double dip to maximize profits and this seems like a good way to do it without upsetting the customers. -

We haven't even seen the set to say its bad yet . To your wider point Id agree at some smaller sets for a couple of years till these 2 retire but if it means no LOTR sets unless its a massive set Id go with keeping the theme alive. -

Shame its not a new character or a variation that doesnt seem so close to previous figure (CMF Cap Falcon in this case). At least thats a Cap with leg printing just not the one everyone wants -

Everyone? Who you thinking of? Yeah I agree wouldn't work for sails but how often do they do sails compared to capes? If its driven by cost cutting exercise (its an assumption based on cost of living) even if they don't get rid of all cloth for everything its used for, stopping it for capes with a plastic alternative might be a decent saving and I don't think the issues with hair and hoods would be insurmountable if it is their long term plan. It's all guessing and assuming till we see more or less usage. I think it'll be a mix going forward as cant see LOTR characters in Rivendell set for example having plastic capes, so maybe it's a Superhero thing. -

Kind of makes sense for a plastic toy company to make them in plastic rather than cloth. I don't know what their processes are for cloth products, whether its third party manufacture etc or cost of cloth material has sky rocketed but it surely different to everything else they produce. Making it plastic brings it inline with any other parts as it'll just be another mould. Whether its best for the minifigure or customer is another question -

I think if the Age of Ultron sets came out around the movie I'd love them but in 2024 with same old characters and repeated figures/slight variation figures amongst the sets themselves never mind AT and previous sets they don't seem worthwhile to me. Iron Legion set being the exception mainly due to price point. I think the Milano looks great but Im not a Marvel ship collector so its a no from me but can see why people would like it. Surtur looks good and I like the fire demons (but more for castle than Marvel) and at the price point prob worth getting. Do we think the plastic capes will become new standard at least for Superhero theme or Lego as a whole? I'd have to see them in person but apart from hair piece issue I don't mind them at first glance. -

Id be happy with a villain centric building. More villains than heroes. It would be a good offset to the Bugle on the shelf (for that reason it should have been done sooner due to Bugle only having a few months left at that point currently). Could include the missing villains like you say and as others have mentioned, Norman and Harry. Not all characters have to have a connection to the building to be in the set. Daredevil, Punisher, Blade aren't well known for hanging out at the Daily Bugle (tho Im sure they all have been there). A nice little add on to any Spider-Man comic modulars would be to have a self serve news stand on the street with a new Daily Bugle paper print. Nice to dream while waiting for news -

I hope so if its comics based mainly so we can can some new figures. My purchases of Marvel sets has drastically gone done due to this reason. I love the Modulars line just for the buildings though it takes a while to afford them. Bugle was great for characters like Daredevil, Blade, Punisher etc but as great as Avengers Tower looks, it comes with a bunch of repeated characters so isn't as exciting as the Bugle (I'd say this is true to most Marvel generic fans eg fans not tied to comics or MCU specifically). Look at summer wave which sounds good but is basically all repeated characters. I miss the days where you could get a set for $20 that includes Ghost Rider and Hobgoblin (2 new characters at the time) and a generic Spider-Man and be pleased with the selection where as now for $25 you get a set with generic Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen and a variant of an existing character Green Goblin being taken over by another existing character in Venom. The big Modular sets seem to be only way to get new characters these days unless they are MCU based. If its not Oscorp give us a comic Baxter or Kingpin Tower or an amalgamation of smaller buildings in one set like Nelson & Murdoch/Josie's Bar/Fogwell's Gym/Bar with No Name/Alias Investigations that wouldn't get a set by themselves with a bunch of cool new characters. If it is Oscorp I quite like the version from Spider-Man game. Its basically a skyscraper like the Bugle with less windows with cool Oscorp sign maybe with cut corner on upper levels to give it a distinct appearance in the line up of Modulars. -

I'd forgotten about that one to be honest as never picked it up in city sets. Guess it depends on scale of a mini orthanc as dont know how 2 moulds compare but you're right that eagle mould would look better (unless they wanted an action pose of one swooping in ) -

The quinjet reuse is rare though I'd say. Usually 1 figure is kept exclusive for a set the price point of the quinjet even as you say it might be a variant of a character. The quinjet situation was strange though snd maybr its a new trend. Most sets are based off concept art. The X-Mansion is slightly different in that theres 5 years of material from 30 years ago to inform the set and the show its self was delayed likely meaning the set was before we knew of it, I'd still bet on concept art/merchandise characters being more likely than future inclusions in the show or characters that are out early in the run. I dont class that as a spoiler but I havent seen the show yet as I tend to binge once its all aired so if people could refrain from spoilers Id be very grateful. -

You might not be far wrong. Just guessing but the moulds might have to be stored in certain conditions plus the amount of moulds per part times active parts from past 5 years might take up more storage space than we expect I would assume they would fall under 5 year rule. Who knows if a set/theme/license could return so likely those decisions dont follow themes ending. Theres also nice parts usage where parts used in different way to intended use might mean part is reused. Just guessing though, dont think anyone knows for sure outside Lego. All good points! I wonder if theres a chance the GWP could be a buildable one ring display. Not sure if there is enough gold pieces to do it without recolouring parts just for a gwp. I dont know how or where but I reckon the the new Raven piece in the June Dreamzzz sets will be recoloured for an Eagle in a LOTR set. Maybe if GWP is a mini Orthanc it could be in there -

Im by no means an expert and just going off the video but after 5 years parts can apply for exception from the rule but they are rarely granted (I don't know what rare means in terms of numbers) so its possible the Barding was one of the exceptions. Though from Lego POV I guess they have to weigh it up what storing a mold costs (apparently expensive) compared to redesigning (even if basically the same as old version) Wasn't the factory visit video it was this video he published around same time as factory one -

According to DuckBricks Lego Factory visit video a couple of months back, mouds are kept for 5 years after there last use with exceptions being rare so LOTR unique ones likely long gone. Thats not to say they cant recreate them like they did the Goat. -
