Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Balrogofmorgoth replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I guess I’ll just never understand the mindset of “a piece exists that doesn’t exactly look accurate but could maybe work so I don’t want them to make a new piece even though the set doesn’t really need any other new pieces” Just doesn’t make sense to me. If the set doesn’t require a bunch of new molds, and a character could use a new mold, just give it to them. It doesn’t take away from anything else No one is saying they’ll boycott the set if it doesn’t include Lobelia with a new hair piece. But she and other named hobbits like her would be wonderful additions to what is probably the only Shire based set we’re going to get. It’ll definitely be disappointing if some of those other hobbits aren’t included -

Aside from a hat for Gandalf, what new molds would you feel like we need for a Bag End set that we would be robbed of if they gave Lobelia a new hair piece? I’m genuinely curious -

Agreed. He really needs that update. Hopefully they deliver I could see a new hairpiece for someone like Lobelia. Rosie Cotton could potentially use the Madam Rosmerta hair but I could also see them doing a new one. All the male hobbits have basically the same hair lol so they’ll probably stick with the usual. I’m already not happy they didn’t use it in white for Rivendell Bilbo, it’s much more accurate than the Doc Brown hair. Doc Brown hair would work for Grey Havens Bilbo. -

Bag End wouldn’t require as many new molds so I would hope for mostly new prints for minifigs -

And even the theatrical version has the scene where Bilbo is hiding in Bag End from the S.B.’s, I think it would make perfect sense for a Bag End set -

Anyone that complained about the Mouth being included is deranged. Lobelia is probably the most significant side hobbit character after Rosie, and everyone knows who she is, even if only by reputation -

It’s not about getting colorful characters, it’s about getting screen accurate ones. I think Fellowship Lobelia would be a fine addition -

I’m super happy about any new characters or variants we can get from LOTR. But also Barad-dûr had kind of a pathetic figure count for the price, especially compared to Rivendell. I don’t think it has to be either/or. Since they refuse to give us regular LOTR sets, these D2Cs are our only chance at figures. So they better deliver. And I don’t think that means the build will suffer -

I actually hope they do the party variants of each of the main Hobbits -

Assuming it’s from Fellowship, what characters would people want to see besides Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Bilbo? For me it would be Rosie Cotton, Odo Proudfoot, Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, and Farmer Maggot. We won’t get all of those but I’d love some combination of that. But the most important thing is that the four main Hobbits and Bilbo can’t just be reused from Rivendell again, they need to be new. And then after that I’d really love a new hat/hair mold for Gandalf -

Yeah there seems to be no merchandising for RoP. Not sure what’s going on there. Rights issues and blah blah blah. Sets would be really cool even though reception is poor (same for more SW sequel trilogy sets). But I don’t see it happening. I also wouldn’t want those to take the place of a line of regular sets from the Jackson movies. I want those to be nicely rounded out eventually -

The Hobbit movies are just as lore breaking as Rings of Power. People just aren’t ready for that conversation -

I think The Hobbit movies were ill received simply because of the insane liberties taken. Liberties were taken in LOTR too, and some of those make people really mad, but overall LOTR does a much better job of understanding where the core of the original lies (to borrow Tolkien’s own phrase), whereas the liberties taken in The Hobbit just do nothing but bring it down -

No one can convince me there isn’t a young audience for it. It’s a false assumption on the part of lego. I have kids who love it and know plenty of other piers whose kids love it. Especially with Rings of Power out now. And even the ones that don’t know the LOTR franchise very well love forts and dragons and creatures and sword fights and bows and arrows and horses, etc. It’s a slam dunk right now, and a missed opportunity -

Very hesitant about the book nook idea. If it’s still a normal set with a good Balrog build and minifigs but just usable as a book nook then I’m all for it. But if it’s some weird stylized gimmicky BS then it’s a massive L -

Hard disagree. LOTR definitely has more location options overall. But I do agree that a lot of them can’t easily be done without being really expensive, but it’s not impossible -

Also other Podracers, Mas Amedda, Bail Organa, Darth Sidious (Yoda duel), Darth Sidious (Empire announcement), Chancellor Valorum, Senator Palpatine, Nute Gunray, multiple arena Jedi, Sio Bibble, Ric Olié, among several others honestly -

Yes, that whole meme wave is a waste of bricks. Only part I got is a Darth Rey minifig -

I wouldn’t call new and improved minifigs of Thorin’s Company a “re-issue”, it would be a different and hopefully better product. Also, “go without or buy something similar but cheaper” isn’t a reasonable option to be honest -

I got that one at the time even though I had the larger set so I didn’t really need it. But two weeks ago after my son saw Rose of Skywalker for the first time I gave it to him and he was absolutely ecstatic. I always just go for it because you just never know when you’ll be super glad you did Honestly in general microfighters and mechs are fantastic for kids. I have kids and I see what they like, and they always want the mechs and microfighters. They like playsets too, but they know that mechs and microfighters are easy ways to get great minifigs -

I can only speak for myself. I have spent what I would call ridiculous amounts of money for lego on the Devi dart market, even for minifigs. Now obviously since I paid it, it was worth the exchange to me. But they were also the only options, and it made other parts of life tougher having spent the money on that. In the end, if someone willingly completes the transaction then the time was worth the price to then at least to a degree. But that doesn’t mean the prices aren’t disgusting. It just means there aren’t any other options. Putting new ones on the market would be an infinitely better option for people, there’s no debate there -

I agree, I’ve seen a lot of complaints about it going around and I don’t understand it. I think any type of troop, especially the unique ones like that, that are unlikely to appear in a lot of sets, should get a Battle Pack so people can collect them Not to mention they’re just awesome Kinda hope one of them is a Death Trooper variant
