I certainly would not say that the GWP is in any way awful -

I wish, I’m actually really bummed it isn’t releasing on a weekend like it usually does. This will be the first out of the three that I won’t be standing in line because of work. And unfortunately it deprives my kids the experience of the release -

That’s a good point, I was actually thinking about that last night. A new Weathertop would be great and could be a smaller scale D2C potentially, if they stick to only D2Cs -

Yeah I really can’t see any other D2Cs being less than $300-$400. Maybe Meduseld if they ever do it -

That’s what I think too. Maybe a small tower or something that they can use to show off techniques for Elven architecture. -

The Grey Havens would be an absolutely beautiful set. I doubt it would get the D2C treatment but if it ever did, I would LOVE to see the five hobbits in their scene accurate clothes (really cool outfits if you really look at them), and then Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, and maybe even Círdan. They’ve shown with Harry Potter they are willing to make minifigs out of background characters you barely even see on screen. That would be a treat -

If they do Minas Tirith, expect a really big price tag. Personally I’ll be willing to pay it since I want it badly enough, and have wanted it for so long. Aside from that I would love to see D2Cs of Helm’s Deep, Caras Caladhon, Meduseld, the Black Gate, Minas Morgul, and even an updated Orthanc. I’m sure some of those won’t ever happen but still. Obviously what I really want to see are playscale sets and battle packs to go along with the yearly D2Cs -

I mean from a viewpoint of just wanting places where battles take place, sure it’s more boring I guess in that regard. Personally, I don’t take that viewpoint. I think it’s a very crucial location that sets the stage for the whole story, and serves as Frodo’s motivation for the entirety of the Quest. I don’t find it any less interesting, I think it needed to be made. That’s not to say we shouldn’t still get those other locations too. Also I don’t care what anyone says, the old Bag End does not hold up very well today compared to this new one -

I think completing the core characters and getting army builders are on the same level of importance. Both are central aspects of the story. We should be getting both. I mean yes, we all want Gondor stuff because it’s long overdue. But the Shire is just an important of a location to the story, if not more so. Bag End needed a remake, this one was inevitable, and I think captures the essence of the place well enough. And I think now they can move on to things that haven’t been done yet. -

It’s beautiful. It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s an outstanding set nonetheless. Easy day one -

I have the old one too, but this is undeniably a massive improvement on that one. I’m also not saying everyone needs to prioritize this set, simply that you don’t have to be rich and have no expenses in order to prioritize lego sets, like the other user was claiming -

Yes, exactly. To me, it’s not worth skipping a LOTR set that we will likely never see again. I don’t care what other sets or themes I have to put on the back burner or skip. LOTR will always come first -

Not at all lmao. I’m not wealthy and have plenty of expenses. But I’ve been waiting so long for this theme to come back, I’m going to prioritize it and make sure I’m not only doing my part to keep it around, but also make sure I’m not missing out on a great LOTR set forever just because at the time I didn’t want to find a way to come up with an additional fifty bucks -

An overpriced LOTR set will always be better than no LOTR set -

The interior doesn’t have quite as much as I would have liked, but it has the important stuff. The Red Book being red is a huge win. Definitely still a day one purchase Price is unfortunate but that’s life Not gonna miss out on a LOTR set because I’m grumpy about the price -

Back of the box leaked! Looks like Gandalf’s cape is hanging up inside, but is included Interior isn’t superb, but it has everything necessary for a Fellowship of the Ring version Merry and Pippin have regular hairpieces included as well, which I assumed but it’s nice to see it confirmed There’s a play feature on the Party Tree to make Bilbo disappear There’s also a play feature at the fireplace to throw the envelope in and have only the Ring come out Bilbo’s hair still looks awful -

March 25th is Tolkien Reading Day, so I can understand why they would want to aim for a reveal that day, but less than a week before the release is absolutely crazy -

LOTR collectibles actually are more popular now than they were 10-15 years ago. WETA and United Cutlery have been releasing new LOTR products now than they ever did before. A ton of retired products have come back and even more new ones have been made and released. And they’re always out of stock pretty quickly. Same thing with the books, I can barely keep up with the different editions being released all the time these days -

The tree itself may be a crappy design, but I feel that some iteration of the Party Tree is essential for the theme here. The full aesthetic of the side builds is very charming. The stand where Bilbo gives his speech, the party tent, the cake and table, the birthday banner with the party lights, it all adds something I feel is very important to the set I agree. I don’t feel that the side builds take anything away from the main build of Bag End (which I feel is practically perfect). Sure maybe it adds to the price but I still think it’s worth having them there. They add a lot to the simplistic charm of the set. After all, “it’s no bad thing to celebrate a simple life.” -

I don’t think a Bag End based on The Hobbit would necessarily be better at all. In order to come with all 13 Dwarves it would need tons of new molds. Which means many of them would probably reuse parts that are inaccurate and wouldn’t look good. Also, the side builds are charming and add to the atmosphere of the party scene. I would much rather them round out the LOTR movies more than to have one random set from The Hobbit when we know they won’t touch anything else from those films anyway. Makes much more sense to just keep it all based on LOTR and round out that minifig selection. -

The price sucks and I do have a (admittedly very small) list of complaints, but overall I’m very happy with the set and I'm really excited to get it day 1, especially if the GWP is what we’re being told -

I just can’t understand who at lego looks at Bilbo and says “yep definitely this hair piece and not hobbit hair”
