Sets made in LDraw mini contest

This is one of the major reasons why I prefer to use SR3D for Technic models. The might help you with MLCAD, though: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/easyrotation-en.html -
We've had a long weekend here and I've been on a bit of a shuttle trip. 1682 Space Shuttle Launch [Town, Launch Command, 1990] L3B File Errors: - No stickers - Missing minifig torso patterns - String will not open in a standard SR3D install (needs LSynth parts) 6346 Shuttle Launching Crew [Town, Launch Command, 1992] L3B File Errors: - No stickers 6339 Shuttle Launch Pad [Town, Launch Command, 1995] This one has been posted before by Typo, but those files have gone AWOL, so I've recreated it in SR3D L3B File Errors: - No stickers - Missing minifig torso patterns and one head - Missing shuttle wheels - String will not open in a standard SR3D install (needs LSynth parts) 6544 Shuttle Transcon 2 [Town, Launch Command, 1995] L3B File Errors: - No stickers - Missing minifig torso patterns - Missing shuttle wheels 3067 Test Shuttle X [Town, Space Port, 1999] L3B File Errors: - No stickers - Missing minifig patterns

Thanks, glad you like it. It was quite an interesting exercise. I started with the SR3D model and used a whole lot of Technic Arm Pins (2705.dat) to get the exact location and alignment of the LSYNTH constraints. I then used Notepad to convert all of those to LSYNTH elements (LS04.dat). Finally, I did some tweaking and added additional constraints on the reels in MLCAD before generating the ropes. SR3D is really useful for locating constraints because ability to change the working plane orientation and snap to parts makes it very easy to locate and orient constraints. The large XYZ triads on parts also make it easy to confirm the correct orientation. The resulting MPD file has 8566 lines, 90% of which are LS60.dat LSYNTH string parts. It took just under 10min to render the 3200x2400 image, without AA, using a dual Xeon X5690 machine.

[Software] SR 3D Builder Lego simulator

Are you using the high-res primitives option in SR3D? That sometimes causes those artefacts.- 428 replies

I did some checking. It seems to be a problem with how the latest version of SR3D builder saves groups. In the previous versions, every part that was in a group had a '0 GROUP X' line immediately before it in the file. Now, there's one '0 GROUP X' line and every part under that goes into that group until the next '0 GROUP Y' line. It seems the new convention gives issues with MLCAD. The easiest fix would be to delete the groups in SR3D and save again, or else open it in Notepad and search and replace '0 GROUP' with '0'.

They shouldn't be a problem. Nevertheless, when I've had this error in the past, deleting that first bunch of lines and the last ones at the end have usually solved it. I've not yet felt the inclination to find out exactly which of those lines causes the problems. A simple search and replace in Notepad will get rid of the individual '0 Group' lines, though this may not be necessary.

Are you getting the error with the exact file you linked on DropBox? That file still has the SR3D file headers and group specifications: Within the file there will be a number of lines '0 GROUP X' which might also have to be removed.

It's something to do with the modifications SR3D makes to the normal Ldraw format. Open the file in Notepad, remove the first couple of lines (beginning with '0') and the last couple of lines (also beginning with '0').

LEGO Building Software
EdmanZA replied to chuckie8646's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I agree, I use SR3D 90% of the time, with occasional forays into MLCAD (and even Excel and Notepad) for the times when I need to do things like set specific angles or positions etc. or do bulk modifications. I don't think SR3D works on a MAc, though. -

Oops I see Calabar's edited it with the correct link. I also see the image was a few pixels oversize. I've reduced the image a bit to make it correct.

If this is the case, then I agree that there are much more relevant things concerning qualifications and work experience that need to be on the form and the Technic stuff should be left out. In the industries I've worked in, they generally ask for a Curriculum Vitae, which is a longer and more comprehensive document (two-three pages) and it is generally accepted that you include some personal background information on your hobbies, activities and clubs you participate in etc. These are, however, generally only a one or two line list. Even so, I tend to maintain a complete CV of everything I've done and then remove parts of it depending on the position and company that I am applying to.
