I had some hope this would be in a similar schale of the Mack container truck and the large towtruck. This however... meh. The truck doesn't look like a Volvo, lacks functionality, the trailer sits too high on the rear axle and as for its load... yawn. Then again, this is LEGO. Would I want it to look better, I could do so myself. I do think however the set itself should look great right from the start. This doesn't. It's a pass from me.

Thank you! Oddly enough it never crossed my mind that these could be mixes from different figures. I'm going to start by using your link and will see how far I will get. Thank you so much!

So... I work at a school and one of the assignments at history class was that they'd have to make diaroma with a history theme attached to it. 2 kids used LEGO minifigures, glued them to the shoebox and then left them behind. As a result the history teacher asked if I'd like to have them, so here we are. My knowledge in regards to LEGO from 1980-1995 is pretty good, but after that... not so much. I've no idea where to start. I enjoy putting sets back together as they're supposed to and this is a pretty fun start. But... could anyone tell me how to get started or maybe tell me to which sets these figures belong to?

What a waste. 400 USD for a black box you can't display when opened because it takes up too much room and when opened doesn't resemble the Batcave of said movie because it lacks the boat among several things.

LEGO 8858 Gears clicking
RNRS001 replied to RNRS001's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've done that plenty of times already. The issue shows up every time I build this set, but only after a couple of weeks. After building, everything works. I've done that as well. It doesn't help things. Yes, it can't escape, but it also still blocks and clicks. -
LEGO 8858 Gears clicking
RNRS001 replied to RNRS001's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It does look like it, but even when I push the shock end to the chassis so the gear has room to spin around freely it's still clicking. I just read something about parts changing slightly. When looking on bricklink it shows 3 variants for the same part, all with subtle changes. Maybe I've just the wrong variant? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3650a#T=C I can't tell however which one I've used? -
I was gifted this set for my birthday the year the set was released, all the way back in 1994. Every time after I build it the car would work. The rear engines make the pistons go up and down, much like every other technic set with a working engine. However, after just a few weeks the gears would start clicking, blocking the wheels. As a kid I rebuild the set many times and could never find a fault. It's now 2023. I own well over 300 sets and have build this set a year ago. It worked, and was put on the shelf with my other sets. My 3 year old is occasionally allowed to play with my LEGO sets while sitting next to me. He picked the 8588 and, yes, the gears are clicking. AGAIN. I just can't find out what I'm doing wrong. At first I thought the problem was somewhere in the truck itself but even when I disconnect everything but 2 gears it just isn't working like the instructions say it's supposed to work. I've added a page of the instructions and have included a video showing the clicking gears. I've a feeling I'm overlooking something because I rebuild this set over and over again but just can't find out where. Anyone able to help over here? 42110 - Land Rover Defender
RNRS001 replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, but for me, the payoff after a build is a set that does both work and look good. Especially if it's a Technic set. If the final result isn't what it's supposed to be I feel I've done all the "work" for nothing. It's why I enjoyed the build of all the trucks. Long nights of putting things together and then being able to show it off without getting all frustrated because it sounds like I've made a mistake! -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
RNRS001 replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So, after all is said and done; should I buy the Defender and expect to be able to build it without cracking noises like @kbalage says or should I ignore it? I just don't know. I buy a big Technic set about once every few years. I'm not someone to mod things, once it's build it ends up on the shelf and I occassionally take it in my hands to play with it. I own all the big trucks they've released the past 10 years and they all work to this day. Is the Defender up to the task or will it frustrate me endlessly? Does anyone know of any mod that does work? I'm unfamiliar with rebrickable so forgive me if this question has been answered somewhere! Thanks in advance. -
This is a great review but I absolutely disagree with the rating for the design. I think this van looks awful and nothing like the van it's based on. Although the building techniques are fun there's also nothing particularly better about this van apart from a sliding door and some added steering functionality. Considering just how much bigger this one is you'd think they'd get closer to the original design but this doesn't seem to be the case. It's a real shame because when you're trying to recreate something you should either do it very well or not do it at all and I feel the end product is average at best. It's a great van, but a great VW van? Nah...

I'm not expecting them to last forever though. What does surprise me is new white parts seem to yellow a lot faster than the parts I've got from the eighties. I own 6379 and those parts have yellowed the same way the white parts from the Volkswagen camper have yellowed. One is over 30 years old, the other was just 5 years old. The stable was put together several times and all white parts had been used heavily when I was a child. The Volkswagen camper had been put together 2 times and its parts had always been in a closed box. I realize the yellowing happens eventually and I don't mind it. Nothing lasts forever, my Fisher Price Garage from the eighties is just as yellow as the average LEGO brick. But a set that's just 2 years old showing discolouring already is unaccepting, really. You expect the parts to last a child's lifetime wouldn't you? Hence the question. It's easy to say "Just buy the set" but if parts start to break, yellow and crack on a set that's there for display value only it's not really living up to its promise, I think?

I'm sure much has been said about this issue but I've a question related to this. I see so many fantastic sets but I often wonder what they look like after a few years. Can anyone shed a bit of light on this? The reason I'm asking is this; About a year ago I contacted LEGO about the yellowed parts for my Volkswagen camper. The set had never been in direct sunlight and yet some parts just looked like a different colour altogether. Some showed cracks as well, as can be seen on the photo attached. The arrows point to cracks, this isn't just dirt or hairs. LEGO had send me all new white parts as even those hidden in the set itself were yellowed. Last year I moved to my new place and was able to get a LEGO-room. I've spend the past few weeks building pretty much every town set from 1980 to 1995 until I ran out of space. Once this was finished it was time for the "grown up" sets. I was able to put the Volkswagen Camper back together with the new parts from LEGO. While building I realized that the blue from the seats had turned grey while it'd been in a box for a good 3 months. I realized that with many of those newer sets I noticed cracks as well. The Unimog has cracks in the orange parts, the yellow big crane truck has broken parts... Putting everything back together from the eighties made me realize that some white parts from that era are not as yellow as the white parts from that Volkswagen Camper. I've about 5 broken pieces from that era as well. LEGO was just of better quality I think? I see the Lamborghini has colour issues... I really like LEGO but I've refrained from buying the Ghostbusters car because of issues like these. Hence me asking. White doesn't stay white. Blue doesn't stay blue. Grey turns green/grey... What do the big sets look like after just a few years?

I've asked for a Scania or a truck that's not a tipper or has a crane and its steering doesn't rely on the hand of god. There's so many other options for trucks and of the 5 big trucks I've got 4 of them feature a crane in one way or the other. The Peterbilt tow truck has a crane. The red truck has a crane. The crane, well, it's a crane. The Unimog has a crane. The Arocs has a crane... No more cranes please. Why no firetruck with a ladder? Or a concrete mixer? Or a tanker trailer? Something with lifting axles? A street sweeper? The list of other trucks out there is endless. Also, make them all in the same scale. I really liked what the Mack truck looked like but it'd look weird on display. I realize I'm a minority when looking at the big picture as there's not many who've bought all the big trucks but still. The "wrong" scale of the Mack Truck is what stopped me from buying it.

Thanks. I know they're generally equivalent but still, it'd ought to show in the instructions, right? And as for your understanding, I've read similar things. However, nobody seems to have confirmed this. If it came with grey wheels I'm all for it, it saves me a load of money ordering the parts from Bricklink!

I have been putting back together loads of old Technic sets. All is well, but I bought this one second hand and noticed my inventory doesn't match up with the official inventory. However, I see a rather large amount of alternate parts on Bricklink. Many of the chromed parts are grey instead and some connectors are different. This: Seems to be replaced by this as an alternate part: I can't find instructions however showing the second part being used. Then there's the wheels. The original inventory lists 6 chromed wheels. The alternate parts says they're all grey. Did LEGO change its inventory during the production run? I want to put this thing back together like it's supposed to be.

I don't think it's just the windshield. It's a combination of several things. The model is too tall, the rear side window is too small, the arch going backwards is too straight... This design is just so so flawed while that MOC build LEGO didn't approve because they'd supposedly been working on their own design was a lot lot closer than what they've come up with.

I can't believe people actually like this set to be honest. I think it looks terrible and nothing like a Fiat 500. I asked my wife if she knew what car it was and she thought it might be some old 4x4? This feels similar to the DB5 debacle, really. Like a MOC build by an amateur who couldn't get it right and eventually just gave up. As a car it looks nice, but as a Fiat 500 it looks awful. I remember one that was posted here that just looks so so much better and it's as if LEGO thought they could do better but eventually realized they couldn't yet decided to release this anyway. I've no idea how several LEGO cars (The DB5, the huge Technic Porsche) pass the final verdict when the final result is as poor as this one.

DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion

Right, so I've just finished building the Batmobile and decided to post a small review. Just for reference sake; the last new set I bought was the Mini Cooper and before that a few of the big Technic trucks. I spend most my money on LEGO from 1980-1995 and rarely buy a new set anymore as I always feel there's something missing. This Batmobile made me decide to spend a whole lot of money on a new set. I always drew the line at 200 Euro's but with the free mini Batmobile and Christmas tree I decided to do it anyway. After about 6 hours of building here's my verdict; It's spectacular. There's really not a lot wrong with it. Sure, some of the curves are off but it does look better in the flesh than on pictures. I'm not saying pictures don't do it justice but once you're holding it in your hands you find out how large and heavy this set is. Much like a lot of other people for me this is the definitive Batmobile. I remember staying up late as a kid just to see Batman on TV and have always wondered why other Batmobiles just never were as cool as this one, so in a way this is a dream come true. As for the rest of the content; I could do without the minifigs, the display thing and would rather they'd have included some kind of Batman that'd fit this Batmobile instead. I never understood the fascination a lot of people have with minifigs anyway, to me they're all the same really. That display thing is just more bricks. Another thing I noticed is the insane amount of pieces that are new to me. Mind you, I'm not as up to date as a lot of you are but there's so many small pieces I'd never seen before. It's why the build took me longer than I expected. I was constantly searching for pieces I'd never seen. I've no idea how many new pieces this set holds but would I still be building MOCS I'd have a field day with this set I guess. So yeah, a pretty great set. I've no idea why LEGO keeps changing scales though. I bought the campervan and then the Mini and noticed they're not in the same scale. This Batmobile is obviously in a completely different scale again and it makes it hard to pose your cars next to eachother. The Tumbler isn't in this scale either. That said, I wouldn't mind if they'd release an A-Team Van or a General Lee in the same scale like this. Or maybe the Batwing next year? As for now, I'm glad I spend that much money on this set. All I've got to do now is convince the wife this model needs to be displayed in the living room. -

If I'd not have been given the other Batmobile with it I'd not have bought it on the day of release but whenever it'd be available second hand. So far, every time I bought something on the day of release I'd see it go on sale a few months later. Bought the Unimog for 220 Euro and then found it for 160 several months later. I get why LEGO does these things but it's why I've stopped buying things from the official store. -

How long does it usually take for things to ship? My order has been in warehouse since friday morning. Do items always arrive within 4 days?
