  1. Ok, this looks like a magazine? How is it a "paper pack"? Guess I'm stupid, because I have no clue what this is.
  2. I just realized that the car I was thinking of coming out alongside the Downtown Diner was the pink Cadillac that came in the actual set, not separately. The Vintage car as stated above was timed with the Police Station, and while it fits that era I guess, it best fits in with the Diner but wasn't released for it. Too many sets to keep track of, lol.
  3. As Imvanya posted above, the Vintage Car that was released in conjunction with the Diner was the first companion vehicle for the modulars that wasn't included in the actual set. If you are looking for a 30's style vehicle look to go with the taxi and moving van, I recommend the bus from the Winter Village Train Station. I often have it parked in front of my Boutique Hotel (with regular luggage instead of presents).
  4. I think you underestimate what kids can do or desire if given the chance. My 10 year old has been (re)building my modulars for a number of years now, and since I got the Police Station modular I haven't even gotten to build the latest 3 modulars at all, since he's been doing them by himself without my help. It's actually been the city sets that I've been getting to build lately. We are going to have a real fight on our hands if/when the Curiousity Rover comes out. He is currently hoping to have the Mars Base MOC he designed in Studio and is busy building ready to display at the upcoming convention in a couple of months.
  5. Post office is currently top on my list. While I'd love a museum, hospital or school, I feel that to be done right they would need to be much bigger than Assembly Square and cost $500+, and I'd rather see the Modular series stay in it's current price range to be honest.
  6. Absolutely beautiful, especially that staircase. Are the window decals from an official set or custom printed?
  7. OMG, that is great looking too, even though the grey doesn't really fit the pizzeria concept. This picture got me thinking that maybe I should be looking at all the pieces I got out of the two QE sets I got for $35 each for modding this building, replacing the tans with white (and LBG for the end stones). Only problem would be the contrast with the white roof facades on the pizzeria, so I'd probably separate the building onto their own baseplates like others have done. I even think the greenhouse fits in better in this image. What does it say when every pallet shown looks better than the original set?
  8. Thanks! I was able to link to it on BL from there, whereas a search of BL didn't find it. Not a bad price considering, especially considering what it would be worth to make a large MOC more stabile for moving. Might order a couple and see how it goes!
  9. I was curious about that part since I haven't seen it yet, but couldn't find it on BL either in the technic part section or in any art set inventories. Could you give a bit more info on this part? It looks interesting.
  10. I believe that the poster on the front of the Jazz Club is a print on a white 1x4x2 panel built snot. I doubt that piece would look good inside if mirrored on the other side.
  11. Black glass panes, either plain or with more posters or graffiti would work, since that would work as walls instead of windows both in and out. Maybe this sticker on BL: 57895pb090L, or one of the many movie posters there if you aren't up for custom work or aftermarket. Really like the extension mod, and love the black recolor.
  12. Ok, I wasn't sure whether your buildings on the bottom faced the street or outwards for display. Brickbank can be easily mirrored to place on a different corner than designed, and I was thinking of it from a facing outwards perspective and the fact it is short. If you mod your buildings it wouldn't be a big deal, but if you display purely based on the instructions I agree that wasn't the best place for me to recommend.
  13. I always find it ironic that cheap Lego sets come with prints instead of stickers, no problem. Yet we are always told that Lego just can't afford to put prints in more expensive sets instead of stickers. And often stickers and prints are of the exact same thing on the exact same part (think planks, logs, etc) where Lego already tooled up and did the print runs.
  14. Personally I think this layout would work great, but I'd put the hotel (with the gallery facing forward) where the bank is listed with the Parisian Restaurant to the left of it. I'd move the bank to where the Daily Bugle is listed, and move the Bugle to the back row. It isn't technically a corner building, so should work good in any open spot back there, maybe with open space on both sides (either 2 half plates if you add another modular or 2 full plates if you don't.. Like this:
  15. By that logic you could say the exact same thing about other modulars. Remove the sign and trolley from the Bookshop, the tile from the front of the Police Station, or the window from the Detective's Office, and those buildings could be anything from an outside viewing perspective. Just the nature of the beast that some buildings will automatically read well and others won't.
  16. I don't know, seems like almost every Lego city I look at online has a Ninjago section. I agree about cny modulars, and that might be hope since the Spring Lantern Festival park set was modular.
  17. True. And speaking of Ninjago, the Ningago City sets seem to be how Lego has decided to create asian inspired modulars, so I doubt we'll see any asian buildings in the modular line beyond maybe an asian restaurant or similar shop placed within a eurocentric facade. A San Francisco inspired Chinatown modular beyond what Palace Cinema evoked would be nice but I won't hold my breath. There are too many architectural styles that haven't even been touched yet, hopefully we'll see them in upcoming modulars instead of retreads of years past. And unfortunately the Jazz Club feels too much like a retread to me.
  18. I could certainly see the tailor in this set leading to a clothing store somewhere down the line.
  19. That's the one, thanks. This year is the first year my kid said he didn't want an advent calendar, otherwise I would have already had it, lol. Picked up a set today at Walmart for $25, which was cheaper than their online price. My hotel now has a proper doorman! Thinking about the Jazz Club pizzeria, I got wondering why they gave us the cruddy old radar dish for the table umbrella instead of a nice print on the much better umbrella piece that came in the pizza van set. That would have been an OK place for the pizzeria logo to go as well if they really didn't want it on the building. One way or another there should be some kind of signage. I ordered a couple QE sets on clearance the other day, I'm thinking about using the 3-pane glass doors from those sets in place of all 3 current street facing doors on the ground floor, especially the lavender one if nothing else. As to redoing the blue fascia in dark blue, I just realized that the door frame has never been done in dark blue, so that may not work. I'll have to mull that over a bit.
  20. There was Joe the Plumber's truck, and the plumber CMF, so a plumbing shop or hardware store might make a good secondary location. I turned the middle floor of my CG from a vet into an auto parts store. Vet never made any sense to me in that location. The top floor became warehouse space for the auto parts store. I suppose an auto parts store could also make a good secondary location in an official set.
  21. Totally unrelated to the Jazz Club, I've been racking my brains out trying to remember if there was a dark red minifig that matched the bellhop and clerk in the BH. Thought it was a collectable minifig, but haven't been able to find it anywhere. Am I crazy, or does anyone know the fig I'm thinking of?
  22. BH was out of stock when they ran the promo last year. I ended up getting something else to get it.
  23. Later, not at release. My guess is end of January or early February like last year's Vintage Taxi.
  24. Thank you so much. Nice crop job too. I thought the yellow might look good next to the purple, but it feels a bit clashy. Also, placed like that the difference in floor heights between JC and both the others becomes more noticeable.
