New X men Origins, Wolverine.
LuxorV replied to IronArtist's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
These look great, IronArtist I really like it when someone shows such a detailed and profesional work on one of my favourite characters. Btw, I always considered Hugh Jackman's hairs to be dark brown LuxorV -
Good to see another decal maker-to-be First things first: I started making decals in Photoshop (never passed through the MS Paint phase, so no real experience on that), and I used to save them as .jpg images with the standard web resolution (72 dpi). Now that was just bad. As Shadows pointed out at the time, the best format for our kind of jobs (and I now use it also for most of my work images) is .png, which keeps a better look (less mixing of pixels in the resampling when saving) while still being reasonably small in size (in the hundreds of kilobytes per decal as opposite to .tiff, which would have even better clearness but a size of one to some megabytes). Another important thing that Shadows pointed out was that the best (or most reasonable) resolution for decals is 600 dpi, now used as a standard by most decal makers on EB. Now, as far as I know there is no possibility of increasing the image resolution when saving a design with MS Paint, but you can still save the image as .png, and that should boost the quality. Or, as clone killer suggests, you could change your decals making program to some more advanced ones, like Inkscape (freely downloadable) or CorelDraw (have to buy it). This will also allow you to design your decals in vectorial format (as opposite to MS Paint and Photoshop), and so to change the design very easily when needed. [e.g.: when I design a decal in CorelDraw, I can put on my torso template a number of objects that represent pokets, belts and so on; when I finish it, I save the CorelDraw original file and a .png version to share here; then I need to design a similar decal, but with larger pockets and a belt of another colour: I just open my original CorelDraw file, change a couple of settings and then I have the new decal done, without any need to re-disign the whole torso and the other accessories. As far as I know Inkscape can do the same. Easy isn't it ] Hope it is clear enough and it can help you LuxorV

New BrickArms Sci-Fi Prototypes!
LuxorV replied to the enigma that is badger's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
That's good news, the enigma that is badger! But now, people, please don't start reviving all the old topics in the hope of something like this! LuxorV -
You know, these little figs get nicer every time I see them. I can already envision a new line of keychains by TLG with these as pendants LuxorV

Thanks all for the feedback. I really liked the concept that flowered in my mind and I'm glad you too like it Yes, parts availability is always one of the main problems I face when building a MOC, since I still have a quite limited range of pieces... As for the greys/bleys mix, I principally meant it to show the pieces of pavement and roof that were restored after the battles in PTV one (I too don't particoularly like to mix them, other than to acheive a well defined look like old and new stone). 95a Hi all, it's been a long time since I last posted something here. I needed the PTV2 idea to get the right source of inspiration! This is a little scene, very simple in both concept and realization, which can be commented by a short piece of dialogue: Kid - Mom, who is that man? Mother - He is the hero who saved our village from the Pirates' invasion. The Sawed-Off Shotgun is a prototype by BrickArms. Gallery is here. Please feel free to comment or critic. LuxorV

Hi all, I'm here again to show you my latest Bionicle MOC: a Glatorian-styled figure I like to name Dragon Warrior (maybe I should improve my fantasy in naming them, as well as my skills in building them ) So, first of all a general look at it/him here you can already spot the folded wings which are the main reason for its/his name. Bionicle experts will no doubt recognize the design from Vastus' weapon in the big axe here while the shiled is taken from the Exo-Force line (Golden Guadian from 2008) The axe can be unfolded to become a double-head battle axe It/he seems quite surprised about it This is the first time I can manage to build a wings-supporting system that satisfies me (mainly because up to this year I didn't have any modern shoulder pieces with all those nice pin holes; I just had the wave of Toa Nuva, with their one-piece blocky torsos) Spread your wings! (it's up to you to choose the Queen or Robbie Williams song by the same title) Gallery here. Hope you like it. Comments and critics are welcome LuxorV

Thanks ShaddowCroc Yes, the gaping emptiness under the driver is a bit problematic; I was just experimenting here, so I'm positive I'll do better next time LuxorV

Wow May I suggest you to search more on BS? Anyway, thanks for the appreciation. LuxorV

I understand; maybe next time you have a request somebody already said he would take, try to contact him directly via PM. It is probably the best way to get his attention without increasing the number of 'hurring' posts in here LuxorV

Thanks all for the positive feedback That's a good question ! I tried to render the signs in LEGO form while still keeping the normal (real life) feel in them, so they came out with a sort of mix between the LEGO minifig and the classic signs' mini-man. Maybe I'll also make a total LEGO minifig conversion in the future. LuxorV

Thanks for the comments and advices Yes, I know the colour scheme is a bit 'mixy'; my only justification is that I have very few Bionicle parts right now. Maybe one day I'll be able to post a more refined V.2. As for the red fins and motors, I quite like them this way as they seem more like a last-minute addition or power-up and that's the feel I wanted to give. The blue pins... I'm working on a possible alternative solution (apart from buying more black ones asap) that may help me overcome the problem in future creations! EDIT - I was forgetting this: the driver/pilot (Onua) is not ment to be divided from the cycle; sort of fusion between the two Thank you; I'm planning on posting a custom Glatorian in the next days; it should be a bit more 'organic' (in colours and building) than this one LuxorV

Please try to be polite (our decal makers do their best to complete your requests, but they are few and requests are many) and to use appropriate spelling. Thank you. LuxorV

Hi there all faithful friends of the Minifig Customization Workshop, I come back to you after a long time with some little decals I worked on in the bits of free time I could gather in these last months. Since I don't want anybody to develop a dangerous state of stress, I'll tell you immediately that the "Warning!" sign in the title is only that: a warning sign, just like the ones that follow Note - All are in 2x2 tile format (16 x 16 mm; 0.63' x 0.63'), unless stated otherwise. Generic Warning Sign Biological Hazard Breakthrough Hazard (our unfortunate MF starts finding himself in a series of unlucky situations) Conveyor Components Moving Corrosive Materials (I tried to render a MF hand in the lower right corner, but it didn't come out very well...) Danger: Drop Danger For Cutter Danger: Machinery Starts Automatically Danger: Obstacles Danger of Entrapment (quite obese MF here ) Environmental Pollution (I don't know if it is harder to render a good LEGO fish or tree) Excessive Pressure Explosion Hazard Explosion Risk Explosive Atmosphere (yes, we like explosions!) Falling Objects (dedicated to Hinckley and Siegfried) Flammable Materials Forklift Trucks Operating Gas Bottles Glass Hazard Harmful Irritant Materials Hazardous Materials (no, this is not for pirates) High Temperatures High Voltage (16 x 18 mm) High Voltage (24 x 13 mm) Hot Surface Laserbeam Hazard Laser (16 x 18 mm) Leaking Batteries Low Temperature Narrowing Hazard Non Ionizing Radiation Optical Radiation Overhead Load Oxidizing Materials Risk of Electrical Shock (one of my favourite interpretations by our unfortunate MF) Rotating Parts Selfignition / Sodium Slippery Floor Staircase Hazard Strong Magnetic Field Hope you like them; enjoy! First of all, this is one of the few Bionicle creations I ever made, so please bear my lack of ability with this theme As the title says it all, I'll just post a couple of links for those who do not know what Tron and a Light cycle are. So, let's go to the pics: A general view of the 'thing'. I used almost all my black Bionicle pieces on this (except for those in use in Gresh at the time). In reality, it was intended to be a cycle mounted by a Toa/Glatorian figure, but as things developed, the driver seems to be fused with the vehicle (Onua Mistika's mask). Here you see the main reason why I compare this bike with a Light cycle: the big, bright posterior wheel which generate the wall of light behind the bike (one of my favourite concepts from the film). Gallery is here for anyone who might be interested. Comments and critics are welcome. LuxorV

New BrickArms Sci-Fi Prototypes!
LuxorV replied to the enigma that is badger's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Strange way of re-viving an almost 1 year old topic Please think better of it next time. LuxorV -
Vey nice walker and impressive action pose, Captain'Spaulding I really like the richness in details you managed to include in it, still having it look pretty sturdy. Btw, I'm moving this topic to the LEGO Sci-fi forum, where it belongs LuxorV

The next Unlikely Society issue is ... not done.
LuxorV replied to Joebot's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Congratulations, Joebot! He looks a very promising LEGO fan Just one question: will the Galactic Guide be his first bed-time book or will you settle with something more classic like Snowhite? LuxorV -
New pics of the upcoming 2010 action theme Atlantis are showing up on the web. Discuss them in this thread

I thought it could be that way, but it was always worth a try Unfortunately, I do not own the set, so I can't be of further help, except for adding my voice: if anyone can be so nice to scan and post the images of front and back of the torso of the statue minifig and the sticker for the base of the statue from SP3 set #5974 Galactic Enforcer, it would be very appreciated. Thanks LuxorV

You could use the pic in the review in our Space Forum, or this pic and the back. For the sticker: here. All pics are via BrickShelf. LuxorV
