DUPLO Mysteries of The White House - what's your opinion?
AFOD replied to AFOD's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sorry. I'll silently post a link to my newest Ideas submission only in this reply here to underline that I understood your hints. No further promotion. "LEGO PLUS+ Taj Mahal (feat. DUPLO)" https://ideas.lego.com/projects/7681a03b-8066-4313-9cf2-62ce667c1974 -
DUPLO Mysteries of The White House - what's your opinion?
AFOD replied to AFOD's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The project is on its way to 100 supporters within the first 60 days - the first milestone. I hope it does not become a very close race in the end, so I would be very grateful for every additional supporter! A note for the "uncommitted voters": Every supporter is making himself/herself part of the "Lego Ideas" history books, because (IF everything works out...) this will become the first ever DUPLO Ideas set to reach 100 supporters! That's really something, isn't it! An even bigger thank you in advance to everyone joining to support from now on. -
DUPLO Mysteries of The White House - what's your opinion?

Thanks. A mix of DUPLO and LEGO bricks would result in the set NOT being able to remain under the DUPLO label because it would have swallowable parts then. The idea with my set was to keep it 100% DUPLO hence 100% non-swallowable. -
DUPLO Mysteries of The White House - what's your opinion?

Thank you both for your opinions and compliments! Concerning the "complexity": The idea behind the more complex build and more "serious" theme is in fact to also give PARENTS a little more fun when playing with their kids. For a 2-year old, for example, it won't make a big difference in most cases which one of the bigger sets they are still NOT able to build - be it the Big Construction Site, Deluxe Train Set, Big Fair, or The White House because in most "DUPLO building scenarios" the ones actually building the sets as seen on the box art will be mom or dad. So my point of view is: If mom or dad are the ones building it, why not give them a little more complexity and a theme they can relate to better, while the fun for the kids playing with the finished set is not being taken away from in any way. In the end The White House is a doll house - parents build it (with their kids), kids play with it (with their parents). That's pretty much it about my concept, plus the educational "background story" of The White House, enabling parents to explain politics a bit if they like to. I just thought it was about time to see something really new thematically, instead of getting the 14th Hospital, 20th Fire Station, 31st Police Station or 53rd Farm in DUPLO form. And it was a really fun challenge having to find ways to capture a certain level of authenticity of the real building while "being stuck" with the very limited selection of available DUPLO bricks (as opposed to the "wealth" of LEGO bricks). Imagine there where no "1 x ..." LEGO pieces at all (for example no 1x1 tiles, no 1x4 plates, no 1x2 bricks and so on) and how that would affect the look of all MOCs and official sets being released. Well, for DUPLO it is the normal case to have no "1 x ..." pieces (and also virtually no options for SNOT buidling)! You got some 1x6 fence pieces and the 1x2x2 brick and that is it, and these are just two of many more examples... But I am not complaining at all, because this fundamental lack of available bricks is what I like so much about DUPLO MOCing - one might think it is easier to design using DUPLO bricks but in fact it is much harder, and in the end many people won't take you seriously because "it's just DUPLO". But as I said: It's really big fun (expensive fun that is - the average price per piece bought separately through LEGO's online parts ordering service should be around 1 Euro or even higher. 1 Euro PER PIECE (on average)!). Now I just hope there will be another 50 people who like my Ideas submission, so my dream of reaching 100 supporters with a DUPLO MOC does become reality. Thank you very much in advance to all who are going to support! I am also looking forward to reading more opinions about my project. Please don't hesitate to post a comment if you do NOT like it - I'm constantly trying to get better, which is hard to accomplish by getting only positive comments -
Hi folks, I am not only new here, but also currently trying to get my Ideas project to become the first ever DUPLO submission reaching 100 supporters. There have been thousands and thousands of projects submitted, but only a handful of DUPLO ideas. I actually like DUPLO bricks better than LEGO bricks... are there other people around, having the same "disorder" ? And of course I'd really like to know what you think about my project: DUPLO Mysteries of The White House: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/865fd7d2-ac55-4162-a098-80fa99d458cb If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them - I mean, obviously there are not too many adults around building MOCs with DUPLO bricks, so don't hesitate to ask.
