I always love when a new LEGO Train brings KimT out of his Rebel base.

NEW LEGO GHOST TRAIN! Images of the new LEGO Monster Fighters Ghost Train (9467) are starting to appear on the Internet. You can check out the new LEGO Train as From Bricks To Bothans (FBTB) shares Toy Fair images of the Ghost Train. Are those moving bat wings? New ghosties? A black cowcatcher? Yes, Yes, & Yes! Discuss the new LEGO Train here, in Train Tech.

Rufus: I always enjoy your reviews. Great picture quality combined with good narrative. I didn't purchase this as I have the orange truck but after seeing your fine review, it makes me want to go out and get one.

Really clever James and I find your introduction/presentation really amusing. I like "One" - in fact it's one very nice collection of trains! While all the trains are nice, I really like the orange and white monorail. How are those grey side tiles attached? Great line-up! In fact, I had to create a new category in the MOC Index. Your image is the first or as some might say, #1. EDIT: in counting the MOC index images, yours is twenty-one.

2012 Train 'Exclusive' - Rumours/Rumblings?
WesternOutlaw replied to nesquik's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I can certainly understand that. Unfortunatetly, when the same kids go down the toy aisle at the big TRU (or other local toy shop), if it's even on a shelf, will they grab an Emerald Night of the big Star Wars ship? Exactly. That's the point I'm trying to get at. A City Cargo Train mingled with the Harbor and other new City sets will have more appeal than a stand-alone hobby train, which also brings up the issue of stand-alone train sets vs. complete sets. On the other hand, if there was a small section of stand-alone train sets in a "build-your-own-train" area, imagine the appeal? I'm remembering a visit to a German toy store as a kid and seeing the 12V sets - locomotives, wagons with people, tracks, and accessories. Would this ever be possible for LEGO? The My Own Train line was as close as we've come in recent years, and it was a marginal attempt (IMO) with most of the appeal/marketing on-line. A more elaborate hobby section in the store, perhaps between Technic sets and City with a light-up display and sound would add interactive appeal, similar to seeing that Emerald pass through a tunnel in an exhibition. With the right marketing and combination of sets, I think the expansion of the hobby train could work. If LEGO offers one hobby train every few years only available on-line or in LEGO retail stores, then the train theme (as a sub-theme of City) will remain what it is now. The price-point issue can be mitigated with stand-alone sets. That's what I'd like to see later in 2012 - "stand-alone" sets and not one or two but five or more with minifigs. -

2012 Train 'Exclusive' - Rumours/Rumblings?
WesternOutlaw replied to nesquik's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Absolutely! The Maersk and the Emerald Night is intended for the adult fan base that probably doesn't sell in the same quantities as a comparably priced Star Wars set at one's local toy store. At the same time, the City theme is the conduit that helps steer the kiddies to LEGO Trains. They've got to have transportation in their towns and cities and a cargo train or high-speed rail is just the solution to add moving parts to their layouts. Unfortunately, it's not the Maersk or the Emerald that appeals to the kiddies, but rather the play trains. That's not to say that we won't see another LEGO hobby train because the designers of the Modulars and hobby trains, through LEGO marketing, have been listening to the AFOL and building sets that appeal to us. What might be the next train is the question bringing us back to the topic at hand? I'd like to see a series of single, well-detailed rolling stock to add to ones' existing train. Maersk cargo wagons, perhaps a crane car, hoppers, boxcar, and though LEGO is done with the Emerald, a mail car, or observation car would be awesome. Lots of possibilities and most likely, we'll see something pop up when we least expect it. -
Layout WIP: I've finally started a real layout!
WesternOutlaw replied to kyphur's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Hi Kyphur. Your layout is looking better each time you post an update. I like the use of the green baseplates for a green layout and while the Christmas village buildings seem small in the picture, that's a big layout. The Engine Shed looks good in the distance - that's a great set. I think the farm addition will look great, especially with all the green. I really like the LEGO Farm sets and had them on my small layout at one time. I also see the start of what appears to be an incline. Will that be another loop or is it the track next to it that just needs lifting up? Great layout and it looks like you've got a lot of space to work with. I look forward to seeing your progress. On a side note, I wish you the best with your little guy. Your layout is certainly dedicated to a meaningful and important cause. -
Really nice Steinkopf. I love your building style. This gives me an LGB vibe. I like shorter length wagons and this build seems to have just the right amount of detail. The black train logo, yellow wheel, and black climbing bricks on the side work perfectly. I wish I had a few of those sliding doors in white - are those from the Paradisa theme? Great build and just as an FYI, each of your MOCs have been indexed. Great little wagon - I look forward to seeing what you'll be building next. On a side note, my only attempt to use tiles in a similar manner has been this little hopper: Perhpas I'll try building a new set of freight cars down the road including a refrigerator wagon as you've done nicely.

Hello All: I'm starting this topic as a way for LEGO Train fans to ask questions about sets, track compatibility, power systems, and any other questions pertaining to LEGO Trains. All are invited to participate. Edit: Please note that set discontinuation should be discussed in the appropriate thread.

For those not into the fantasy element, it may be a good set for black parts.

Very nice Murdoch. I really like the colors and symmetry. Now I'll have to go listen to that song.

2012 Train 'Exclusive' - Rumours/Rumblings?
WesternOutlaw replied to nesquik's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You never know. Sets have a way of popping up without anyone knowing. -
Welcome Austinniya. I'm glad Harnbak helped you find us. It's always nice to have outstanding LEGO Train builders join our community. Please feel free to share anything else about your Train interest in the Train Tech Registry. I'll modify that initial post to deeplink your images. It's an outstanding train! EDIT: I especially like the locomotive - great colors and a sleek design.

Hi Danger. Welcome to Train Tech. Sounds like you picked up some of the best all-time LEGO Train sets. Looks like you've got a supportive girllfriend as well, which always adds to the enjoyment. Having most of the newer trains, I now find myself looking at the old 12V stuff. The sets are completely out of the ball park in price though. I still check Ebay and BrickLink periodically. I hope you enjoy the forum and feel free to share an image of your collection, a MOC, or your layout any time.

It's got my support. Awesome! -
You're most welcome guys - I'm really glad you enjoyed it. This contest also demonstrates that we don't always have to build an incredible MOC nor offer a free LEGO set to have some fun. This makes it even more enjoyable. I enjoyed the craziness in the posting and the spirit of the fun.
