Review: Indiana Jones Classic - 7683 Fight on the Flying Wing
WesternOutlaw replied to iotacode's topic in LEGO Licensed
Iotacode: I've been meaning to comment about this nice review for some time. This is a great review. I really love your pictures. They are so clear and really add to my appreciation for this set. I purchased this set right after Christmas, and was actually not too interested in building it (but I'm a bit of a completest and I own all the other Indy sets). On New Years day, I turned on Raiders of the Lost Ark, and got busy. Although the set has a few cons, I was pleasantly delighted with the end product. I'm not a fan of stickers and the sheet I received was severely wrinkled. I haven't got around to writing Lego SAH yet. Aside from that and the large single wing piece, the set is very nice. The fuel truck could have been a bit taller, but it's still nice. I really like the cockpit piece and the fact that there's a hidden storage compartment separate from the cockpit. I love the dark green and dark grey color combination making the plane very unique and more military-like. After building the Flying Wing, it inspired me to build my Desert Adventure. It's a great addition to the Indiana Jones theme. Thanks for sharing a superb review! -
If you had just enough money to buy one, which would you buy first? (not considering that Motorcycle Chase came out first).

7620 Motorcycle Chase Piece Count: 79 Figs: 3 Extras: 2 crates Price: $9.99 USD 7624 Jungle Duel Piece Count: 90 Figs: 3 Extras: 2 giant ants Price: $9.99 USD The third Indiana Jones Face-Off is two great little sets that each contain 3 figs and a few extras. Motorcycle Chase is Classic Indy from the Last Crusade. I love the German motorcyce. Jungle Duel is from the new movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and contains two popular movie characters, Mut and Irina. At the same U.S. price point, which do you like better and why?

ALL: Although I've got the World Adventure pretty much mapped out, if there's any place that you'd like to suggest visiting (perhaps your home town/city), I'm open for suggestions. I think it would be fun to solicit feedback. Keep in mind that you might have to participate by finding a few creations from your area. I'm not promising I'll visit, just that I'd consider your ideas. If you keep your doors open, I may just stop bye.

007: This is another fantastic creation from you. I honestly have not seen any creation by you that is not excellent. Your Daimyo Tea House is also featured on Classic-Town.net (a little further down), which makes a great part of this creation. I hope you don't mind that we took the liberty of photo-editing your work for our Asian Adventure.

Legoland Sea Life Tour
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Excellent! I would recommend seeing it for those who haven't been there before. I don't think that I'd go back soon, but it's definately worth a single visit. My biggest complaint with Sea Life and Legoland is that there's no exclusive merchandise. I want some special Lego that I can't find anywhere else. I'm digressing, but I'm in the Land of Adventure where they sell the Indy merchandise. I see a sign that says "Exclusive Indy set(s) can only be purchased in this section of the park", or something like that. I ask a young lady behind the counter if they have an "Exclusive Indy Set". She points to Temple Escape (7623) and Temple of the Crystal Skull (7627) and says, "these sets are exclusive". I was hoping that they had the comic book store exclusive or something other than main stream mdse. I quickly let her know that every Walmart, Target, and Toys R Us sell these same sets. Exclusive, my... In any case, Sea Life only had a few of the larger Aqua Raiders sets that were on clearance in most stores last year. The rest of their mdse. is cheap plastic stuff and t-shirts made in China. This is really bad merchandising on the part of Lego (at least I think), and I didn't see anyone in line buying this stuff. -
Legoland Sea Life Tour
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
You don't like Aqua Raiders? How about Divers? No offense taken though. Not everyone likes every theme. -
Welcome DD. I've moved this post to the "Hello. My name is" forum where new members introduce themselves. Do check out Trains & Town though as well as Classic Town for great town-related material.

I like this link better. Or here's the picture:

Legoland Sea Life Tour
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks WF. I'm getting better at my photo editing skills, so I'm able to do a lot more to really enhance pictures and reviews. It's too bad Aqua Raiders was a short-lived theme. I was surprised to find a few of the sets in the gift shop at the end of the tour. Many stores had them on clearance. I see this new exhibit as an opportunity for Lego to make an Atlantis theme, with new fish and lots of aquatic life; or even an Aquatic Exploration/Marine Biology theme. I suppose that's a bit like Divers though. In any case, thanks again for the feedback. -
Legoland Sea Life Tour
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Everything except for the first picture of the shark. It's a mural. Thanks Lego12. I just came back yesterday. I didn't know what to expect, but it's worth seeing if you have never done so. The real thing looks a lot more impressive than the pictures. -
Legoland Sea Life Tour Are you prepared to venture into the unexplored waters of the deep? If so, you may find the sunken City of Atlantis... But beware, these waters are filled with sharks and other strange creatures that minifigs may not have been meant to see. Join me as I explore Legoland California's Sea Life for an Aquatic Adventure. The tour begins in a small room with a television. A "cheesy" Poseidon with Santa beard begins telling you about Legoland Sea Life. The video is pretty quick before the doors open into the next room - Lake Tahoe for the kiddies. There's not much excitement here. The next few rooms, San Fransisco Harbor and California Coast contain various tanks. Let's dive a little deeper, shall we? That was quite the work out. On the shore of the California Coast, a young lady stands with her surf board. I love the octopus. After a quick walk through Kelp Forest, I find my way into the Shoaling Ring. The room is dark inside with a tank all around you: I make my way past a great shark mural. Lucky for me, that's not real : The next room is the Southern California Tide Pool. Inside is a small open tank and I think this is also where I found this Atlantis MOC: I make my way into the Sea Life Lab where I take this awesome picture of a Jelly Fish: And some coral along the walls: The Lost City of Atlantis has the best sites. Let's take a closer look: A large shark swims by: Who might you be? I'll try to get closer with my submersible. Unfortunately, the bright lights caused her him to swim away: Seems my sub has gotten stuck along the bottom. I'm going to resurface and walk a bit. This tunnel leads through the Lost City of Atlantis: Back under the water, there are many manta rays swimming along the sunken city: Wow! This one almost took a bite out of me: Seems Aqua Raiders Sub 76 has ventured into the lost city: Check out these ancient artifacts: After that dive, I need a little rest. The Surf Shack provides just the place: Strangely, I found myself in the Ray Lagoon, a large Adventure-themed chamber containing a large tank of small manta rays: This is my kinda place. Oops, back into Aqua Raiders mode. The murals are fantastic: Here's another of Atlantis. I see a potential Atlantis theme here: Venturing outside of the lagoon, I discover the Kingdom of the Seahorse: Unfortunately, it's a big room for such a little horse... The final room of the adventure is the Discovery Zone Touch Pool. Kids can pick up shells with small crabs. Just don't take them with you. We've reached the Ocean Journey Cafe. This ends our Aquatic Adventure. I hope you've enjoyed the sneak-peek tour. The following EB reviews can be found for each of the Aqua Raiders sets: 7770 Deep Sea Treasure Hunter Review 1 Review 2 7771 Angler Ambush Review 1 Review 2 7772 Lobster Strike Review 1 Review 2 7773 Tiger Shark Attack Review 7774 Crab Crusher Review 7775 Aquabase Invasion Review 7776 The Shipwreck Review

This is just the excellent feedback that I appreciate Batbrick. Thanks for taking time to comment. Australia would be a neat place to visit, and I've never been there. Could you find some MOCs from the area? Thanks Erd! I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the BLOGS. The pictures have been taking some time to create, but I think the end product really adds to the quality of the great MOCs. We've got lots of places to still visit in our World Tour.

Preferred new historical theme
WesternOutlaw replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Interesting topic Klaus. I voted for just Wild West. I've said this before, but I'd love to see Lego offer a large Wild West town with a few buildings (larger than Gold City Junction). Sort of like the old classic set, 365 Wild West Scene, but with Wild West theme-sized buildings and maybe a train running through it. I've also been a collector of Western Playmobil (don't shoot me) over the years, and Playmobil retired their Western sets many years ago. They brought one set back for their 30th Year Anniversary in 2004/2005, and have still offered a few sets since. I'd even love to see Lego do the same with a new Legend set - sort of a "return to the theme", but a completely new set. A Ghost Town would be my 2nd choice. (and it's great to see a few people voting for this theme). In terms of other historic themes, Playmobil is now making an Egyptian Theme, after offering Romans for a few years. I really would not be surprised if Lego jumped on the thought as well and offered one of these two themes. The same thing happened with Vikings. -
Excellent! I'm glad you like the idea. I thought the Dry Nile Apoc MOC was pretty good as well, but the pyramid scene is still my favorite.
-
The intent is to drift a little away from traditional towns and venture around the world to see some other places, esp. those ancient and forgotten places.

Oh great. Now this thread will lead to another Hinckley interview. I need to get into the keychain business and start selling Hinckley charms. -

Thanks NewRight. My tan bricks arrived today, and I was working on some ruins. I'm not done yet, but here's some new shots with the ruins:

Nice one Erdb! I like this band, and the name is equally clever. This deserves a blog.

It's the BBQ stand! Everyone loves BBQ! Great little review. I could relate to a hotdog stand better with the ketchup and mustard, but BBQ is good too. Thanks for sharing the review, and WF: thanks for blogging!

I didn't realize the mouth was that big. Nice!

Excuse the double-post, but I've added a new scene. This is in the back of the diorama. Once my tan brick order comes in, there will be ruins in the background. The sand-dune piece is from the new Pirates Theme, Loot Island.
