  1. Anyways... Looks like I was just as dead wrong as everyone else about LEGO continuing the 1950s theme, as they seem to have scrapped the idea that Jamie once mentioned of the next decade of modulars moving forward in time. just thought id point out that Today LEGO are meant to release the news of which vehicle is the winning modular. I feel fairly certain it'll be some sort of truck, perhaps one that can deliver ALL THE MISSING BOOKS
  2. Yikes! at least we know it won’t be nautical themed... ?
  3. I imagine it'd take a good few months to get the winning car into production and distribution. Here's a thought... Within the contest requirements (Overall coolness and originality: 25% Most inspired details: 25%  Relevance to contest theme: 25%  Best use of LEGO elements: 25%  ) It would seem a no-brainer that the 15 selected by LEGO would all fit with past and future Modular themes. Of the 15 that LEGO have deemed appropriate- 6 are Utilities/ delivery/pickup 4 are classic/ early 20th century 2 are police 3 50s-60s sports/racer cars Speculating here just for fun, I'm going to say that there's a 60% chance we'll see some sort of practical business where a delivery vehicle would be relevant. My deduced guess: An old timey Mom and Pop Americana style grocery/ deli store with home shopping delivery, which would be visually very different to the Green Grocer due to the era etc but not different enough to stuff us moaning about it! This isn't what I'd necessarily like to see... but my best guess due to LEGO are favouring the truck/delivery vehicle.
  4. Seems like this year the earliest it'll be announced will be Tuesday- the same day that voting on the vintage care contest closes right? I hope there's at least a few hours between announcing the winning car and the modular that goes with it as this would make the guesswork more interesting if just for a bit...
  5. Long time reader- long time lurker: I had exactly the same thought about the ice cream vendor leading to a 1950's Americana soda shop/ice cream parlour. Recently had a chance to play The LEGO Vie 2 game and came across this design for the ice cream parlour from classic bricks burg. Whilst it's very unlikely they will go with something like this, it's interesting to consider previous "official" designs than TLG have made for such buildings. After a Gragae, Diner and an Ice cream parlour/ dance hall, drive-in. I'm struggling to think of any more quintessential American style buildings of the current modular era... did anyone else have any thoughts? https://imgur.com/OtTM6ek Excuse the link- don't know how to embed an image here.
  6. Hi all, Couldn't find a better thread to plant this in, but I'm after some practical advice to make this sign stand out a little more. I'm creating a car wash to fit in with the Diner, which will be inspired by the car wash in the Town plan, wanted to make a cool brick built sign for it but I don't have a brain for SNOT techniques as im pretty new at MOCing... Any pointers or opinions greatly appreciated!https://i.ibb.co/1052wRq/car-wash-sign-2.jpg
  7. Just in case anyone missed this:
  8. Does anyone know if there is going to be/has already been a 'Julefrokost Event' at Lego house this year. Last year we got to hear Mike talk about the process for the DD. It'd be VERY interesting to hear the process for this years CG as it seems so empty. I'd be surprised if they didn't use the event to win people over a little bit to the building... I may be mistaken, but we've not heard from Lars Joe before have we? Edit: I know he's talked about architecture themes before, I meant on modulars.
  9. Oh... Well I'll definitely buy it, but I won't be in any hurry. I like the garage having seen it, but the facade of the main building is just boring as hell. I was really hoping for something as architecturally different to previous sets as the DD was to what came before. Feels like it could be an alternate build for a few previous modulars. I look forward to seeing what talented Moc'ers do with it, to spruce it up a little.
  10. In a past life... I worked as the European head of visual marketing in a large fashion brand. Almost all of our internal documents were branded, screened and copy checked at multiple points. It's only a small mistake, but It would be rare for documents to have typos. Anyway, what I was getting at was that we've seen quite a few garages, and even one by Mike himself in the past year or so. They'd definitely be breaking their usual protocol to have told everyone about it last year during The Lego House event launching the DD.
  11. Hi all. I’ve a couple of hopefully relevant thoughts to add to the rambling speculation! Firstly, I agree that if that is a snippet of an internal list used in the Lego store it’s VERY unlikely that it would have such a glaring spelling mistake in it. Last year Mike Psiaki, showed off/talked about how he originally wanted DD to be a kind of garage/car dealership and how they couldn’t quite get it to work. Knowing what we know about how tight Lego are with revealing information about work in progress, and future models it’s doubtful that he would have been allowed to reveal that this year or next they would be adding a garage/dealership/petrol station. Having said that (and presuming Mike is the designer) he has stated a love of cars before and has even built a garage previously which might give some hints as to building techniques he’d try to scale up in complexity pictured below. Though again, knowing what we know about how the team works, would they really opt to build another garage, by the same designer within a couple years? I'm pretty sure that it's been said in various interviews over the last year that post-AS the whole line has a refocus on going to ALL sorts of different architectural designs/eras. So IMO it’s likely the next set will be just as ‘jarring’ or dissimilar from previous aesthetic as DD was in order to achieve more eclecticism. Personally, I hope someone else designs this years modular. If they really want to go in new directions each time, what better way than to have a different designer each year getting to stake their claim.
  12. There will be, just gotta wait another month, once all the Star Wars fuss has died down. They'd hardly celebrate 10 years of modulars if they planned to end the line.
  13. So, ive had a chance to look through the whole catalogue cover to cover and there was NEVER a creator expert image of any modular in there. I don't know an awful lot about this- but I presume lego don't put the modular building in the catalogue as it's generally only available to buy from Lego direct rather than third party retailers? looking through previous years catalogues January to June, Lego don't put the modular buildings in there are far as I can see, so this talk of a blue baseplate is likely 100% speculation based on nothing. Good news is that we're only a month and a bit away from seeing this Doctors surgery/museum/library/train station/donkey sanctuary. My guess is a proper bookshop in the ground floor, with an apartment celebrating a party- to tie into the the CMF line due out soon after.
  14. 10256 was the carousel wasn't it? did anyone see any of the leaks from the 2018 catalogue?
  15. It'd make me really happy if there was a creature costume to go with every animal and a food mascot to go with every food piece. They do seem to almost doing this anyway with costumes like hot dog and the hot dog bun or the penguin and penguin sit; pizza slice guy/gal, ice cream guy/ gal and so on. Owl suit, dog/puppy suit, and so on. (Completionist here) if they went in this direction- which suit would anyone else like to see paired up with the correspinding mini animal/food?
  16. Great answer thanks Sven! But to answer your question, I used to sneak down on Christmas Eve and grope my presents under the tree. ?
  17. Question for those in the know... over in the CMF discussion (leaked/hinted) information on the just anounced series has been around for a good few months and there is already fairly solid rumour about 2018's line. Is there a specific reason no such information has been leaked/hinted at with regards to the next modular? Thanks!
  18. Huzzah! thank for this- I've been lurking for ages waiting for these pics!
  19. Ah nice one! I'll be really surprised if it isn't one. The Town Crier would be a pretty good fit with the retro/vintage vibe of the modulars. My guess as to why his raised hand isn't holding a new moulded bell piece is that it would give the game away too easily. Can't have a town crier without a bell!
  20. Hi Gang, I've been lurking on this topic for a little while and it's been fun to read all of the guesses, with specific relation to the silhouette which is confirmed NOT be a matador, the first thing I personally saw (which I don't believe anyone has mentioned) when I looked at the image was this; A town crier. Someone has even made a custom that kind of fits with the silhouette
