Thanks! I really like the style! My little boy has been asking me to make a train with the orange helicopter canopy for ages now. Your pictures have inspired me, so thank you for that. Now I actually have to build the thing! I have ordered parts for 2, 6 wide petrol tankers this month so won't be able to do another Bricklink raid for a while. Gotta save up, then I'll do a MOC based on this.

I have quite a few of the 2014 Arctic sets broken down, including one of that helicopter canopy! This MOC is perfect fit what I had in mind for it all! Is there an LDD file or similar for this that you'd make available? I'd love to see how it's put together. It looks fresh in the arctic orange!

This! My kid hates the motorised trains. I spent ages adding another motor to his 60052 and now he doesn't play with it. He asked me the other day to take the motors out. All he likes to do is get a big line of trucks and coaches, hook up a steam engine and push them by hand. Loves pushing them! Hates the motors! Give kids the option instead of only expensive starter sets with buildings and track side structures they won't build or use (Our cranes for 7939 and 60052 sit un-built in the original bags right now). Give them cheap and simple and they will come in droves.

I think it's likely WiFi Direct or Bluetooth low energy. Both would easily be integrated with smartphone or tablet apps.

So we could have an actual Powerfunctions "RC" train setup. Interesting to see where they go with this, seeing as most of us remember the fiasco that was the old RC setup. Ugh.
-
Yep. I can already see where I'm going to modify it and give it more of a class 37 or 50 look.
-
Holy Moly! Those descriptions were spot on! I'll definitely be picking up both of these. I hope the new PF components are backwards compatible with the PF train motor.

Me too!

So according to this page Lego will be absent from the London toy fair in 2018. Looks like no leaks from there after all. Looks like we have to wait until Nuremberg on the 31st.

Looking at the layout you'll probably have to do something similar to 10254 and house the PF battery box in the tender, the receiver somewhere in the cab/firebox area and stick the PF train motor in as the front bogey.
-
Yep, that's how the horizon express works as well. Heck with 60051 you have to remove the entire cab. I expect it to be the same on the new passenger loco too.
-
It sure looks like it could be. The locos seem to be lit by a bright light source as there are lots of reflections on the (grainy) images. Take a look at 10260 Downtown Diner and see for yourself. Under normal lighting it could indeed be the teal.
-
Yes, the front end on the passenger loco has a very abrupt step up from the floor of the cab to the floor of the frame. The yellow just stops on a straight line. It's very jarring to the eye. On 60051 this is mitigated by a sticker with a transition and it really smooths out the transition.

Personally I'm looking forward to both of these. Really looking forward to a better look at the rolling stock and accessories. I hope the guesses so far are correct and we get more carriages this time around with the train. Like the HE, two carriages and one loco. Buy two for a complete train. More expensive, but IMHO a better solution for train fans. My son complains that his 60051 isn't long enough so we have ordered extra middle carriages off eBay. It'd be great if we could just buy two sets and get 4 carriages from the off. I think the freight loco is growing on me. Although I'm more interested in the passenger train at this point. Potentially a budget 10233, with a redesigned nose piece (Clearly different from 60051's as the lights are centred and it has a taller, bubble window), which also happens to look like a Eurostar. Yes please!
-
This! Oh yes. I'll buy two right now if this is the case!
-
Where are people seeing these leaked images? If anyone has a clue, feel free to send a PM! I'm dying to see these trains. This will be the first wave of trains released that I'll actually have been here for! I missed all the previous launches due to the dark ages!
-
That's the one! You can see alongside 60052 how similar they look to the untrained (no pun intended) eye. Although it looks like we're out of luck on that front as there are others here claiming to have seen actual images of the new loco.
-
Hmm, I can't seem to find the picture now, but a few months back I found an image of a recoloured 10219 in green. It was from a show, but interestingly, the side panels are the same part as 60052. Yet they were in green, but the part is not officially manufactured in that colour to my knowledge. 10219 looks a lot like 60052, certainly if you're looking at a poor quality image for sure. Just wondering if anyone has seen the same picture. I'll post it if I do manage to find it.

Yep. There are two Technic beams in the nose that the PF lights attach to. There is even a 2x2 brick shaped recess in the floor behind the driver to mount the splitter brick into. It's the same in the unpowered locomotive too.

My Son just had the 60051 set for Christmas too, while I got 10233, Horizon Express (now I need a second one!). I had the same idea a while back with 7938 and added a motor to the rear locomotive along with a battery, switch and IR receiver. Running the two locomotives together seemed to work well, except when the signal would miss one of the receivers and the two would get out of sync. I had a few derailments in corners where the rear loco would push the train clear of the tracks as the front loco was slowing or stopped. I think you'll have better luck running extension cables as long as the set won't be played with by children. I have yet to try the extension cable design as my own son is too young (3) to understand not to separate the carriages. I will do this with my own Horizon express though when I get a second set. Probably 2 motors in the lead loco and one in the back on an extension cable or two.
