LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
Cottin replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Did anyone else literally LOL when they read "75208 Great Playset Yoda's Home"? -
Those repeats are peculiar! Especially perplexing is the one that looks to be titled The Zombie Cave, considering the original The Cave and The Dungeon sets are both still on shelves, are on perpetual sale, and cover the same source material: Steve + cave + zombies... However, the draw here is the inclusion of a bat and a baby zombie in a set that looks to be about $20 My guess, and hope, is that Lego is reinventing the line -- coming back with updated versions of sets where certain blocks and items weren't represented as best they could be in Lego form (i.e. the grate pieces used as ladders now instead of the old ladder brick used in The Cave; the new minecart system now instead of the original design used in The Mine) -- to really get the aesthetic "right" by their standards. If I'm right, us Minecraft fans have many years ahead of Minecraft Lego sets. These are my Winter 2018 wave highlights: -Small battlepack-like sets with very useful figs and pieces, shut up and take my money! (Pig riding isn't dead!) -It's really blurry, but I think that igloo set comes with a polar bear.. and definitely a stray! -Chickens!!! Rabbits! And baby zombie/ pigman body mold! It really is gonna be Christmas time!

More images are available on Lego S@H of the Ocean Monument and Crafting Box, and the site says they'll be available beginning August 1 in North America. I usually wait to get Minecraft sets on discount anyway, but the Ocean Monument is gonna need a steep discount before I pick it up. Although I find the main builds to be lackluster, the figures, blocks and accessories are gonna be what drive me to get both sets.

Any idea when we might get the list of names for the winter wave?
-
When should we expect a leaked list of names for winter wave sets?
-
All this hype and then a full reveal with video for the mountain cave, but we have yet to see finer details of the models Lego showcased at toy fair.. I just wanna know what's on the inside of the ocean monument already haha. But it seems like those two sets have a different release date than the mountain cave, considering s@h has the coming soon label on it but the other two are no where to be found.

Wow, I'm excited to see what the set's features are, as well as how it can be reconfigured.. exciting stuff! Alas, still no chickens.. :( aha

Well if the studio is still taking the storyline of the original trilogy and giving it new clothes, then a villain-centric approach makes sense for what would essentially be a rehash of ESB.. The empire gains the upper hand and leaves our heroes in dire straits, but leaves the audience hopeful and anticipating the epic conclusion to the trilogy. So I can see why villain vehicles would take precedent over our "underdog" heroes.

Awesome, thanks for the updates and good eyes, guys! It's good to see they're including new prints as much as new mobs, blocks and items. Signs and paintings may get some love in this mystery set or the future, but I think it's more likely we'll see banners in different colors/ designs before signs and paintings. Maps were a must though.. can't wait for this reveal..

Thanks guys! I posted that comment before seeing the picture at full quality and, after a review, you guys are right. Now to maintain patience until the official reveal.

I can't distinguish a chicken from the silhouettes, so whether we get our feathered friends is still a tossup. The bat is a nice surprise however, and I'm interested to see the use of pieces.
-
Thanks for the insight! That was an interesting little read. I wonder what new blocks, items, and/or mob will be added in The Mountain Cave, and what story the designers wish to tell with the elements of the set.

Looks like I have a reason other than Thrawn to pick this set up now. Awesome mod!

I almost thought battle damaged Anakin had duel-molded legs when I saw the official pic, but no such luck.. we should start a betting pool -- which Star Wars character gets dual-molding during what wave of what year. Four ways to win! Cash payouts for those who accurately predict the character, dual-molded limb, wave, or year! Lol.. maybe we'll get that level of fig detail for Star Wars by 2020. But enough with beating that dead horse.. I'm so freaking thankful TLG included an actual rifle for IG-88 and didn't limit him to only a stud shooter. Being interested in only the tinier sets of this wave, my wallet is pretty happy about this summer.

Dunno if this is the right place to ask, but how long do you folks figure the UCS Slave I will stay on shelves after the Snowspeeder gets released? I was surprised how quickly the Ewok Village retired last year in the US -- for me at least, it was abrupt and without warning (lacking the "Retiring Soon" label on S@H). If you all think that there's any likelihood Slave I is retiring soon, please let me know. I'm thinking it'll be my May the 4th order..

I guess I'm in the moderate camp for the Snowspeeder -- my opinion isn't extremely for or against it. It's a gorgeous model with neat functions and is surely welcome after the recent UCS goofs. But yes, I share your pain when it comes to the many stickers and the identical faces on the pilots. It's an eventual buy for me, but I'm not going to spring on day one.

Oh haha, yeahh I went a bit overboard and wasn't very clear. Let me refine my points. - We need fig variety. Alex and Steve skin variants are absolutely welcome (and I love the idea of the skins being themed to the biome), but I'd be just as thrilled to see custom skins, like those released in the two skin packs, appear as the figs in sets -- just unnamed characters that give us consumers variety so we don't have to amass 15 identical Steves on our way to collecting one of each mob. I think the Minecraft universe is too rich with options to churn out clones. But no, I don't think it wise to release sets based on other intellectual property. Markets for mash-ups depend on the consumer's interest in BOTH properties. Star Wars is the only license I could see faring well with a Minecraft skin pack, but that's going off zero data and an assumption that Star Wars just sells, period. Lol - Minecraft isn't bound to any one aesthetic. A good portion of the Minecraft Lego theme is designer-built structures (Desert Outpost, Jungle Tree House, Fortress, Waterfall Base, etc.) that do not exist in game, but don't seem to have any strong architectural influences either (mostly they are platforms or boxes with flat walls). Why not make sets that capture the diversity of the community? A few iconic styles come to mind: Western saloon, Buddhist temple, rustic European cottage, traditional pueblo. I think there is potential for not only buildings, but a couple mock vehicles as well. I don't think blocky cars would be a hit, but things like boats, blimps, planes and anything kinda steam punkish could attract an audience IMO.
-
Lego's possibilities are as endless as the Minecraft universe (as long as you constrain yourself to a realistic price point per model). There is infinite potential for buildings and skins, and the Minecraft community is known for epic creations spanning all eras of time, space, and the human imagination. Every theme Lego has ever released (Castle to Chima, City to Star Wars) has a potential blockier Minecraft counterpart. You have the internet, you know. People build EVERYTHING imaginable in Minecraft and out of Lego. I wouldn't be slightly upset if Lego milked this theme for all it's got.
-
I think it's safe to say the Minecraft theme has at least one more year (2018) worth of sets, if not more. Thoughts? I'm quite surprised by the large box and potential D2C status of the Mountain Cave, especially after The Village was released only a year ago, but as a huge fan of the game and lifelong fan of Lego it is welcome news to me! But now I'm unsure about my prediction that the Mountain Cave would contain the new rail system and effectively replace The Mine (the only set in the theme to be discontinued). Given that mineshafts now naturally generate at ground level in mesa biomes and are full of gold, I can see Lego releasing something along lines of "The Gold Mine" where they do a little mesa scene (about the size of the Ice Spikes set) featuring a surface level mine, lots of new rail pieces, lots of gold and a cave spider or two. I also think a "Desert Well" set would be a great $20 way to introduce Husks into the minifig line-up. At this point, I mostly want to see CHICKENS and baby zombies, thus CHICKEN jockies! (I wonder if designing a chicken that accommodates a baby zombie rider is part of why Lego hasn't released an official model yet..? Seems like a potential design challenge). Other than that, I'd love to see a D2C Mansion set with Evokers, Vindicators and Vexes, including some of the standout rooms like the one with the big illager head in it. The Desert Temple and End City are the only other notable generated structures still missing from the theme, if I'm not forgetting anything.

Oh man, thank you, I don't really go on reddit but seeing this here really made my night. hahahha...

Maybe he meant that the Bossk minifig was a placeholder on the box art, but we will (hopefully) get an updated minifig Bossk with the actual set..? Because the fig on the prelim box art is definitely the old Bossk.

[MOD] 70904 Clayface Splat Attack - Articulated Hands v2

Absolutely brilliant! You've solidified my interest in this set, which for me was a stand out for TLBM line in the first place. I can't wait to build your design now! The one brown knuckle is a subtle but effective touch!
