Yes, it's great. I have a terrific family. This birthday they bought me the 10242 Mini & 10220 VW Camper and now my sign. I'm a very lucky Grum. Thank you Edwin. Yes, I guess it is now officially open for (building) business. All being well I'll get some pictures taken over the weekend & post them in this thread early next week.

Davekuhh's Detailed LEGO models

I'm looking but it's not registering that this is Lego. It's just astounding. -
No, I've still not gotten any pictures taken of the inside of my shed but they'll be coming very soon. Anyway, on the subject of my shed, I received a belated birthday present from our eldest Son, his Wife and our beautiful Grandchildren Jake, George & Penelope today. Needless to say it'll be going in pride of place.

You'll no doubt have noticed that the name of this topic has changed. After consultation with our esteemed leader I've decided to use this topic for all future WIP's rather than starting a new one each time. I'd be interested to know what you think. -

Thank heavens for that. I do tend to babble on a bit and over complicate things sometimes. It all adds to the fun -

Thank you Bart. I have to say this is a really enjoyable build, much more so than I thought it was going to be. You have the parts, I recommend building it asap. I assure you, you won't be sorry. The easy answer is very slowly. The more detailed answer is: 1. Wet about 3" of either end of the sting. 2. Using clamps, thread one end of string through hole in hook 3. Use clamps to grip string about 2" from the end and lay it over the string to form a loop. 4. Grip long bamboo kebab stick in teeth and with it tease end of sting under string & into middle of loop. 5. Holding one handle of long clamps in teeth and right hand thumb through the other, grip end of string and pull it through the loop while pressing knuckle of little finger on other hand hard on string above loop to enable first part of knot to be tightened. 6. Repeat these steps to form tighter knot. 7. Repeat these steps to attach string to winch drum. I hope this makes sense. Reading it back to myself it did but in all honesty, that's no guide -

Thank you. It's the only way I've ever known. Life's far too fragile to be stopped from doing what you love to do. There's a way to beat anything life throws at you, to overcome any obstacle that stands between you and your dreams. It's there, you just need to find it. -
What a magnificent build. I love the cutouts and the lighting is very, very effective. The illuminated superstructure, what there is of it so far, reminds me very much of nights spent prowling the decks when I was at sea. Great work Edwin. PS I think the British Antarctic Survey should commission you to build a model of their new research vessel.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. As for Sariel et al, that's hallowed ground I'm not worthy to wheel on. I'm on the lookout for a cheap 42025. It looks an interesting build. What tools do I use? I'm a big fan of 'if it helps get the job done, use it' so have used everything from a coaster to wooden kebab sticks and Play Doh to an apple (an axle pushed into it held in place nicely while I cojoled an assembly onto it. Sorry Gilly ). I have things that I always keep on my build table as I use them a lot. I have 4 different sizes of these. And recently bought one of these which has proved very useful. -

What a great build. Well done. It's nice to see something other than trucks, cars and construction vehicles etc., as great as they are. -
First off let me make clear, I'm no expert builder nor do I profess to be but I'm at a loss to understand all this legal and illegal building technique malarky. Surely if something you build necessitates you going about it in a different way to what's perceived as 'the norm' and it works that's fine.

Thank you Edwin but respect both ways. The ships you build are fantasic. As for my building, it's not so much patience as those who know me will atest, I'm just too stubborn to be beaten by a pile of plastic pieces -

Thank you for your kind comments. No, there aren't any photos or video of me building. I've been asked to be filmed building several times over the last few years but have always decined because I really don't see what I do as anything film worthy. Like everyone here, I love my LEGO. I just build it differently to most. -

Thank you Bart. Thankfully one of the many 'joys' of my condition is that I don't sweat unless there's something very wrong but if I did I'm not too sure there'd be many takers for the job of mopping my brow -

Build Day 5 - Days build time 4hrs 40mins / Total build time 18hrs 30mins Had a good few hours building today which included the most difficult part of the build so far, the rotor head. After sorting out all of the pieces needed for the rotor head I was surprised at the size of the pile, 103 parts. All those pins! The complexity of the rotor head made building a very slow process indeed which wasn't helped by my fastidious checking of each stage before going on to the next. I didnt relish the thought of having to dismantle it to correct a mistake. This part of the build has been, without question, more difficult than anything I've built previously. The whole thing tested me but the hardest part was Stage 15 on page 7 of Book 2, the fitting the Axle and Pin Connectors 2L (6536) and 3L (6536). Being recessed they were a job to get to but after what seemed like an eternity they were done. The rest of the build went relatively smoothly. Pictures of todays progress.
